Yeah! Kitasan Black won the Japan Cup in 2016 and ran 3rd in the same race in 2017. He was twice the winner of Tenno Sho autumn and also twice the winner of Arima Kinen. Like father like son I guess.

​@@davidwong6682 Actually, he didn't win Arima twice. Heck, he raced in Arima three times and didn't win it until the last one, which was also his retirement race. Also, he won Spring Tenno Sho twice, and Autumn Tenno Sho only once.

Deep Impact seems to be deified in Japan, but the only opponents he has beaten are weaker horses compared to Equinox. Unless, of course, he had won the Arc de Triomphe, but he finished third despite doping. I think Equinox is a much better horse.

the irony is that they are so desperate to win the arc and had the horse to do it....and the ground was right....will they keep him in training....probably not

I am Japanese. Deep Impact is highly valued for its performance as a stallion.

@@benbim540 Yeah I believe you can't compare like that. Auguste Rodin also ran in that Sheema Classic and came home close to last, but he won 5 G1 races in UK and Ireland. Liberty Island positioned herself too far from the lead, and had too much ground to make up at the end. I think it's just a misjudging of the pace from her jockey (and some other's).

It looked like a workout where they didn’t want him to do too much. Equinox-world record holder at 2000 m after a 4 month layoff The top 20 is no question for this horse.

What other route turf horse even broke a track record, let alone a track and world record? What other top turf horse traveled internationally and remained unbeaten? Who had the highest Timeform ratings? The best in the world were also in Dubai. He was miles better than even Westover there and Westover didn’t race in the BC either. Neither did Ace Impact. He made Westover and Mostahdaf look like GIII horses at best. The Japan Cup offers a lot more money and is better than the BC. I’m American, and know that the world dodged him. Liberty Island will be one of the best in the world next year if not the best in the world if he doesn’t race. Shahyrar, the Japanese horse, was 3rd in the BC turf beaten only about a length. He dodged Equinox and his connections chose the BC turf instead of facing Equinox again in the Japan Cup because they knew the horses in the BC turf weren’t as strong as him and that the horse had a shot in that race. Shahryar has raced Equinox several times and has never been close. The Japan Cup has over an 8 million dollar purse. The winner gets almost 4 million. By winning the Japan Cup/Dubai Sheema Classic double, Equinox also got an additional 3 million. That is not offered for the BC Turf/Dubai Sheema Classic double. So, almost 6.9 million for the Japan Cup win vs almost 2.1 million for the BC turf win. It’s a no brainer when it’s on your home turf and you’ve been the best by far in the world all year. The Japanese are now the king of the turf. Even Auguste Rodin, the winner of the BC turf, is by Deep Impact.

Augustine Rodin was winning G1s in England, Ireland and the U.S. while this horse ran against nobodies in the UAE and Japan. Check the class lines. Equinox's father, Kitasan Black, won at Tenno Sho, a delinquent race track. Equinox has a rich and excellent European pedigree in his dam's pedigree and will be compatible with European turf. His dam's sire is Tony Bin, Dancing Brave, and Alleged, who is 18.75% descended from Triple Crown winner War Admiral. These three horses are winners of the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe. Equinox will do well at the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe.

But, Europeans can’t win in Japan so they don’t race there. They were so afraid, that not one of them challenged the Japan Cup, even with all that money. Europeans had already had enough of him in Dubai. And what do you mean he’s not the best in Japan? He’s the best horse in Japan, ever. He was second twice early in his career. He has won six GIs in a row. Almond Eye raced in Dubai, but didn’t race in Europe either and she was one of Japan’s best too. Japan has one of the best breeding and racing operations in the world. They don’t need to race in Europe when breeders from there will use their stallions anyway.

Because he get more money, including bonuces, if he run domestically. Futhermore, travelling abroad is a risk for him, who already has the potential to become great stallion, because of injuries and other risk. He has already beaten the Europeans in Dubai. If they are dissatisfied, why dont you come to the Japan cup？

The funny thing about races in different countries is the type of ground and style of racing is completely different. Aiden Obrien does so good in BC races because he doesn't always bring his best horses, he brings the horses best suited to the conditions
