What a Creeper - Bend to Alvord Desert Overland Route - Day 4

On this section of the Bend to Alvord Desert we utilize a power line road to get from the A6 Intruder crash site to the Hart Mountain Antelope Refuge. Having a power line running beside me entire section is a bit of a eye soar but if you look beyond the power lines there is still a lot of beautiful desert country to enjoy.

Jason, Your vids have the perfect blend of photography (lighting choice is great), cooking techniques, dogs, adult beverages and traveling companions. Love music but your choices are fine for the masses. . My last 4-wheeler was a 1978 Scout II so when I need to take a trip, I'm with you.

I love how you said get a slow start , usually like having camp completely cleaned up by around 8am. Dang If you see me climb out of my rooftop tent before like 930 am I'm usually crabby and demanding coffee 😂 you crazy morning people. Camping is for relaxing and sleeping in

So weird the lake was empty at the same time of year as before. Really enjoying revisiting these places via the trip with Edward. Breakfast looked good...I may try adding some sausage myself next time. 👍

Hart Mountain is one of my wife's favorite go to spots. We have a large travel trailer that we park at Camp Hart Mountain CG then use our smaller Suzuki Grand Vitara to explore the surrounding trails. It is my understanding that camping at Hart Mountain is restricted to designated campgrounds. Some of them are quite privative but very enjoyable. We love seeing the pronghorn, deer and other wildlife as we explore the area. If you look hard enough there are several petroglyph sites.

One of the challenges I have been coming up with when traveling BLM roads in Central and Eastern Oregon has been private ranches. Lately I have traveled 30 plus miles of public BLM roads to come upon a private ranch with the road now posted "Private Road, No Trespassing". Some roads across private ranches are public roads other are not. I believe we must respect private property rights. It would be nice if the maps would identify public and private use of these roads. I am not happy when I have to dead head back when I am only a short distance to my destination.

I've traveled down Hywy 395 down through there many times. Years ago I thought, man I've got to get out there and do some exploring. I also wondered if there was a route down to Alvord. Now I'll get to see it, then go down my own version. Man, that whole area is absolutely BRUTAL in the summer! Certainly would do any trips then. See you at on the trail someday.

I love Hart Mountain Antelope Refuge. A most relaxing and serene area, and depending on time of year and all, can be very non crowded. My favorite hot spring. You can also get water at the Ranger Station at the refuge. Lots of antelope and deer, and there are a number of fee dig sunstone mines and some petroglyphs in the area as well. There is also another unimproved and hotter spring a couple hundred yards away from the improved spring. It is just a hole in the ground about three feet deep and maybe 15 feet in circumference.

Jason, I really enjoyed the video! A question if I may. Have you ever considered an Auxiliary fuel tank to extend your range??? I have and it's well worth the coin spent. If you would like to know the company I've utilized. Whom I, can testify that backs their product. Before, during and after the sale. I will gladly share my story. I was amazed by the after sale support and I mean over a year after the installation. This is not a sales pitch and I'm not compensated in any manner. I'm merely providing a positive testimony for the after sale customer support that was extended to me to by this company to resolve an issue. Cheers, Mate.

Havelock wool! I see that you now have wood on your walls and ceiling. I watched the Havelock wool installation video that was 'temporary' and have wondered what you finally decided. I haven't watched all videos! I sure would like to know as I want to do a van for winter and am looking at insulation. Did you leave air gaps between the boards? Has their been a moisture problem? Thanks!
