Led Zep were pioneers of hard rock but were not a heavy metal band that term was not coined until later in the 70's they had a very wide range of styles including blues rock , folk rock and hard rock, they influenced everything that came after them. Their influences were even earlier the Dalta and chicago blues guys , 50's American rock and roll and then they added their own unique style and flair including British influences a s they are a British band - if you carry on you will find references to British history literature and landscape. They are famous for their impeccable connection with each other as musicians and their ablity to improvise. Jimmy Page is the founding member guitarst and producer Robert Plant is teh vocalist and plays harmonica on some tracks and also writes most of the lyrics John Paul Jones is teh bassist and keyboard player and John Bonham is the drummer. The other thing you need to know is that they were an album band , they didn't release singles all the tracks stand upin their own right - no filler. Things were not nearly primitive as you believe back then even tho this is way further back than you thought, music was transformed between 1962 and 1970 including writing original material, length and complexity of songs instruments that were used and recording techniques. The foundation were laid by the Beatles, the rolling Stones, Cream, the yard birds ( jimmy Pages band before lz) the who, the animals, Jimi Hendrix the zombies and many more. You will hear the development and origin of rock music in those guys. The production values of this music are fantastic . You have a very long but satisfactory journey of exploration in front of you if you want!! I would suggest tht the next LZ should be How many more times live performance from Danmark radio TV becuase that is the first recording of a track from the first album and that will give you the best understanding. Jimmy Page was famous for the violin bow on guitar technique and he uses it on this track. These guys are the origin story. By the way why do you reactors wear head phones over the top of hoods seems a bit mad .

Could you catch a glimpse there of what a charismatic player Page was? He had his moves. Zepoelin basically had two “frontmen”….two charismatic dudes you couldn’t take your eyes off of. Page taught Plant, who had just turned 20 when Zeppelin first performed live, allot about swagger on stage and how to use it. Plant was a natural performer with an incredibly powerful voice, but he grew into all that rock god stage persona over a couple of years. And it set the mold for rock frontmen for a couple of decades.

I get what you're saying about Live, and raw. HOWEVER, I'm a big advocate for studio, for certain (most) bands. Queen, should be Live versions. Led Zep, I prefer studio. I like hearing how they TRULY intended it to sound. And on Stairway, it's such a classic, that the studio will always be best. But I get it that you HAVE probably heard it already. Just a side note ... You are SO handsome!

You're never going to please everyone. There are always going to be studio vs live preferences. I think it really depends on the song. Some bands are just as good or even better live. Usually, people can give you the best versions of a song as a consensus. I generally prefer live versions from the artists that are truly talented back then. Two live performances to look for are: Pink Floyd PULSE concert, and Dire Straits Alchemy tour. Much better watching and listening to live performances. You can always listen to the record version too Also, no worries about pausing. Im here to see your reaction. Ive prob heard the song a million times, and can listen on my own to the whole song. Only gets annoying when reactors just like the sound of their own voice . Enjoyed your commentary very much. Remember, Pink Floyd PULSE (ex Comfortably Numb) and Dire Straits (Sultans of Swing) Alchemy tour!

When Led Zeppelin began-other groups in the same vein were Deep Purple, Cream, Black Sabbath. Then progressive rock would appear Yes, Emerson Lake & Palmer and Genesis. Other types of rock-blue-eyed soul rock Rare Earth and jazz rock-Chicago, and Blood Sweat & Tears were popular. Other bands like Traffic (60s band was a jazz progressive band borrowing from other genres). other bands like the Who-started in 1964 but continued to be innovative throughout the 60s and 70s-from 1965's My Generation to Substitute to the 70s Baba O'Reilly and Won't Get fooled Again and Who Are You-same with the Rolling Stones who started out as a blues band but turned pop with Satisfaction in 1965 and were continually evolving as the darker side of the Beatles with songs like Sympathy For The Devil, Jumpin Jack Flash and Brown Sugar. The Beatles were the trendsetters bringing the British Invasion sounds of the UK in 1963 to the US in 1964-a slew of bands followed-The Animals, manfred Mann, Dave Clark Five-in 1965 the Beatles went to a more sophisticated pop and folk sound with the Rubber Soul album-in 1966 a garage rock sound (Paperback writer), early pschedelia sound (Tomorrrow Never Knows) and full psychedelia with the Sgt. Pepper and Magical Mystery Tour Albums in 1967-In 1968 they introduced heavy metal with Helter Skelter and Revolution (single version) then before splitting up stoner rock with I Want You on their last album from 1969..The Let It Be album from 1970 released after their breakup in early 1970 gave way to Led Zeppelin of the 70s as the top band.

With today’s tech, it wouldn’t be as good.@9:41 you hear the faint “pre-echo” one of the most iconic things in rock history. That was a bleed-through of another take of the song. It was recorded on tape and when Page heard the “error”, instead of muting it, he amplified it. It was a “happy accident” (Bob Ross reference😁) that added to the song. With modern digital recording, it would never have shown up in the first place.

NO! In this rock era 60s-70s (not 80s) for Led Zeppelin we heard studio versions first-via radio and albums. The concert tours came after. By the the a band might tour in your area you’d heard the studio version a million times. When the band played live you knew the song; it was already burned into your brain. The concert versions were exciting and often different. But you could appreciate the stage performances because you knew the source material. The concerts were indeed more raw, and that was a trade off, seeing them live but with a rendition of the music that was not as polished as the studio recording. Zeppelin spent a lot of time in the studio to perfecting the final product on the record. That level of musicianship was rarely reproduced in concert, and if it was the audio engineering wasn’t there to capture the audio quality. When people tell you to listen to the studio version it doesn’t mean never watch the live concert version. It means to HEAR the band at its best, with the music produced and engineered at its highest quality-the way the band want wanted you to hear it. Led Zeppelin put on shows to earn money. They recorded for the music. What you just watched was the studio recording with concert video overlayed. I guarantee you that a concert recording would not have sounded like that.
