I knew a guy who got a skate with the Bruins in the 80s at training camp. He told us all that his plan was to take a run at Cam Neely to show them how tough he was. Well, Cam beat the crap out of him and his locker was cleaned out, and two days later and he was back home drinking beer with us. Still the toughest and most athletic guy I knew…and a great dude.

They created the hockey culture, the hockey bible, if you will. Tough as nails, go to the wall, pain and sacrifice, drink ya under the table. Toughest Mfers on EARTH! Hockey deserves more fricken respect, especially in America.

Hockey players care about their sport waaaaay more than the other big 3 sports its not even close these guys wanna win so bad

I worked with Stu Kulak for a few summers after he retired from hockey and grew up with NHLers and PROs like Chuck Kobasew, Duncan Keith, and TJ Caig. Those guys are on another level. There's a reason why you see hockey players with the best girls.

I loved Avery when he was on the Rangers. Was going to name my second kid after him if it was a boy, but since we had a girl, we went with Madison after MSG. I love the fact that he has this podcast now because I always love to hear his opinions on things. Definitely does not hold back!!!!

Sean is that guy who wants to keep the party going when everybody else is going home.

I knew a few kids back in the day who suppose to make the NHL. They went to play Jr out west. They made it 6months cause they got home sick. You either have it or you don’t. It’s a different bread of people who make it.

One thing I always liked about NHL players is that I understand they have essentially been desensitized to violence and aggression even to an extent while still considered children. Heck even though I only played on a lower level growing up, even I am desensitized to violence and aggression in regular life now-I totally blame hockey. They also become desensitized to fear, all while working hard to develop, and even harder the more elite they become, and yet there is a character about them that is humble. And I’m not saying they don’t have demons, but your not going to see them take their shit out on regular innocent folks, they tend to be kind to regular folks, and they are not braggarts about the things they are capable of. They give credit to their teammates and everyone else before themselves. I’m not doubting there are exceptions to all this. But honestly, and especially in this current political climate, there is no better a role model for a Canadian kid than an NHL player. Indeed, they play far more of a role in making us all who we are and who we want to be than the simple exploits of their on ice performance would suggest. So thanks for that….that means you too Sean.

Starts with a love for the game. Frozen nights skating till your old man dragged you home. Hours on end honing your good and beating bad till that too becomes good. A love of the game. It's different from all other sports.

All,I can say,Being 75 years old,playing 20 years always ameuter leagues,respect the sport,played a lot of football, baseball, Hockey players are tough,as a whole,tougher ,that is my opinion,but until you play the game and other sports,then make your opinion!!!

I know you won’t believe this but research my ex occupation which is professional Motocross is pretty close to what your saying although it’s not a team game but I’ve raced with broken bones and here’s the funny thing when I retired from motocross I tried everything sport the softball league bowling, triathlons, everything but then one night my brother calls me like at 1am oh bro I found the sport you need to play to scratch that competitive itch and yes sir it was hockey although not at your level but I never quit playing starting in 1995 what a great amazing sport….

Hey Sean , first Time Watcher I became a Scotty Bowman Fan at the 1969 Leafs/St. Louis Game and I have Studied His Coaching Since. You had the Potential to become a High Point Left Winger if the Teams had Lined You Up Correctly. The NHL has been Slowly Mixing Our Canadian Zone Dominating Ice Hockey with European Ice Soccer Played on a Giant Ice Pitch. They haven't told the Players that is what They are doing but Mixing the 2 Games Incorrectly is what is causing all the Injuries, Bad Plays that are Ruining Careers , Like Your Could have been like if They didn't Mistreat Your Style of Playing. Ice Hockey is a Zone Dominating Game Like Your Table Top Game , Back and Forth very Quickly. Euro Ice Soccer doesn't Play that Game , They Back Pass a Forward Transition, Telegraphing the the Other Team Your Attack, They wont use the Boards to Control the Puck at Either End of the Ice, plus all Europeans are a D- Grade Checker because They don't learn as Kids so the Checking Injuries Increase. You Buddy were Ripped Off for an Excellent Career in Hockey and it looks Like You got the Same Injuries as Wade Belak so Watch for the Symptoms and You can Control Them when Your Aware of the Symptoms . I watched a game last night, the flames defence man intentionally blocked a shot, WITH HIS FACE!, played the next shift. Thats a gamer. I have a hard time watching leaf games now, as they give up opportunities to hit, and just wave their sticks at players and think thats checking.
