Sounding great gents. Many years ago I did read that Gibson was trying to reproduce the sound of a P90 when developing the humbucker but without the hum .
That wouldn't surprise me one bit because a good PAF does share a lot of the same tone space as a P90 but minus the hum. It wouldn't surprise me at all if that was the plan
Yeah absolutely. I think what Paul mentions with the balanced pickups might be part of that. We got used to hearing humbuckers made a certain way, but the original intent of the sound of these pickups was more on the unbalanced side, the way they were in the 50s and 60s.
I must say that i find PAFs very overrated, the thing is that they have too much nasality in the bridge and they are too boomy in the neck, the next Gibson humbuckers such as the Pat. Number and especially T-Tops sound much clearer and balanced in the frequency response, more p90-esque if you like, other humbuckers that i prefer over the PAFs are Guild LB-1s, HB-1s and HB-2s, Fender Wide Range and Epiphone mini-humbuckers, as they have this kind of fat and full, but crystal clear sound.
Hey Chris, heres the video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ZkGCvLstPrE.html It's quite an interesting video and he gets so many different tones with just the guitar!
The irony of someone that makes claims about their single coils that defy Lenz, Maxwell and Einstein, claiming that folk make all sorts of claims about pickups!
