WHAT A MESS! 

Howdy. Digging your Robot project! Started watching at the “…Robot from scratch…” video. I’m still fumbling around trying to figure out the objective a bit but the name Desert Eye would indicate that you want this to monitor something at a distance. That’s the Main function/objective. I think I’m right. As for suggestions about additions, I’m sure you have already planned or considered everything but I’m just throwing it out there. GPS: yea, I See That you are working on it. Laser Pointer: First, fricking Lasers! Joking aside, the Tank can be positioned away from you and laterally a bit with the Laser on a target. Assuming you can see this distant Laser From your Position, you could calculate the distance of the far object with a bit of trig since you know the Robot Position, angle and your own as well. Oh, assuming you add a compass (but you can get that from the GPS if you travel a bit and get the course and don’t change direction). LoRa Radio Module: with This, you could get Kilometer ranges and such for cheap. No video streaming but sending waypoints or receiving Location isn’t out of the question. It’s cheap-ish. Other stuff, you can take it or leave it: I see that you are utilizing the batteries in series with 16v and the using a buck converter to drop it to 5V. That’s a lot of lost power to heat in such a drop and you don’t get the gain of added power. Perhaps running the batteries in a 2s2p configuration at 8.4 (7.2 nominal) for the added battery life and power without so much lost. It’s also easier to charge if you include a small and cheap BMS for it. This way, charging and protection is included. I see the Raspberry Pi as a lot. It’s Power consumption alone flips me out. The only advantage over a microcontroller is the video. The load from the Motors and the Pi alone exceeds what that buck converter’s output should be, if I’m correct. I’m building a robot at the moment as well with differing requirements but fun to see everything out there. I enjoy nerding out on This stuff for sure. If you ever want to blab about it or discuss anything, I’m open to that. Heck, I have PCBs that I can send you a couple of that you can solder to a Heltec LoRa ESP32 and is the exact same size. The resulting package size is a couple of inches. With it, it adds SD card storage and GPS connections and I wrote a GPS library that is just for the ESP32. That’s a Ton in a small package - OLED, WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS and Storage. Keep up the great work! Super fun to watch and I enjoy your enthusiasm!
