Mission Impossible is one of the best action movie franchises ever created, but it's stunts take things up a notch. Rogue Nation and Fallout both have some of the most insane stunts ever put to film, and Tom Cruise is always at the helm. The Mission Impossible movies looks so real because, in a lot of ways, they are.

I feel like this practicality is what made the LotR movies so good as well - the level of effort and attention to detail shows

Yes, is the same with yoda in the original triology. It feels more real because is there.
@Mrdardas99
@Mrdardas99 4 года назад
Oh yeah. If you watch the 12 hours of documentaries on the extended edition DVDs (!) you can clearly see to what ridiculous length they went to have everything feel real - they literally built all the external of Hobbiton, planting thousands of plants months in advance and had horticulturists take care of them so they will grow natural and perfect. They had actual armorers design and build armors that move and react in a realistic way (but lighter so the actors won't get exhausted), even making a machine that cuts rings out of plastic piping and two guys made all of the chain mail by hand (hundreds of thousands of links over years!)
@fireaza
@fireaza 4 года назад
LotR has plenty of digital effects, Gollum being the most prominent. What makes the movies so good is they know when to use the right tool for the right job. If a miniature would work best, they'll use a miniature. If doing it practically would work best, they'll do it practically. And if doing it digitally would work best, they'll do it digitally. They're not going to use practical effects simply because it impresses wannabe film-buffs.
@tobybartels8426
@tobybartels8426 4 года назад
@@fireaza : I don't know about that. Gollum always looked faker than most of the other effects to me. I expect that they would have done it practically if they could have. For that matter, they would have hired a thousand-year-old dwarf who'd been warped by a demonic artefact if they could have, but presumably none was available.
@fireaza
@fireaza 4 года назад
@@tobybartels8426 Exactly. They could have done it practically, as shown by the many many movies that have a character that's a puppet or suit. But they specifically made the decision to have Gollum as a CG character. There was obviously some issue they were expecting to encounter had they decided to do it in-camera. Perhaps puppets or suits lacking the ability to do fine facial expressions would have negatively impacted the more emotive scenes they had written for Gollum? In the end, they chose the method they felt would work the best for their vision. And in this case, it was going with a digital effect instead of a practical one.

Makes me a little sad that after all the work he put in, in the final film they ended up chopping up that sequence into multiple cuts. Hey, there is a topic that I think you would be able to develop perfectly: The difference between CLUELESS parents and STUPID parents in cartoons. Clueless being the parents that don't see the the crazy things that their kids do because they barely miss it every time (Phineas and Ferb, Danny Fanthom, etc.). they are smart people, they are not dumb, but they just keep missing the action. And Stupid parents are just.......stupid. Like in fairly oddparents. For them, the action happens right in their faces, they are affected over and over by it, but they are too dumb to realize. I think there is a difference on the kind of humor that the 2 settings have. Mostly because on the first one, even if you know that they are going to miss it, you still wonder HOW, what is going to happen at the last second that is going to distract them from seeing what their kids are doing, it makes you care. On the other case, you don't care as much because at the end, it doesn't matter what happens, they are simply going to ignore it. I would love to see this topic being developed, and I think you would do a great job.

If it was all CGI it wouldn't be art by your definition of art? Sounds pretty stupid. When a child scribbles on paper it can also be classified as art in the traditional meaning of the word. How does CGI change any of that? Is "The Incredibles" also not art because it's all not real (except the sound)? Is Transformers (2007) not art because most people consider it a shitty movie? Can art not be shitty? I swear, people don't think before they write or say anything or their thought process is just fucked so often. I really hope for you that this was a comment made on a whim and not thought out. Effort does not dictate what art by any stretch of the imagination. I love MI6 but it doesn't prove anything except stunts being real makes the movie more emersive (which does not necessarily dictate the quality of the film).

@@besim-fm8mw He got a point but he also have the big dumb. @animatorizwan
@animatorizwan 3 года назад
@@besim-fm8mw Seriously. Actually I Love both Tom cruise and Jackie Chan but the thing you said it not right. Having a crew is never an assurance to Life. 1. Tom cruise stunts have risks but he have best crew in the world (Technicians) who are expert in their field such as Wire rigger, stunt co ordinator, Safety people. I believe now the movies are created in different form. We have Digital camera, Previs and improved Advancements in rigging and many things. Back then Jackie don't have all these. He should be aware film roll and should prevent it. 2. Jackie stunts will result in pain even if it happened as per plan. Clock tower fall is done multiple times. Even padded Jackie knows it will be painful. Injuries count can talk for Jackie. In Tom's case it may be smooth or may be risk (It is all about his GUTS to do it). Tom cruise have that GUTS to say "I will do it". 3. He did old parachute jump in Armour of god and Hanging from a Helicopter by a Ladder. This "never did" is ok at some extent and this "and never will, is jump out of an airplane, get attached to an airplane at high speed, walk on a side of a building" is not so. He can. He did some Edge of Building stuff. Airplanes won't fit in the movie he made. So he may missed. MI series is all about SPY and it involves all modern Vehicles. So on these note. I feel both are Awesome but Jackie paved the road at first.
@animatorizwan
@animatorizwan 3 года назад
@gbesimg Even I love Tom cruise so much. He always much the Boundaries. Just I couldn't leave Jackie aside and say Tom is great. They both are great is my point. I never take religion, personal path into consideration. Especially in movies. It is Art. I see it that way. Jackie did lot of things which is HUGE at that time. No one would have thought of it. I think he no longer need to prove him anymore that he is Daredevil (Martial arts and stunts). His work will stand for years. His camera work shows Fully wide to show all the things happening as if you were there. Where Tom's action is Cinematic (in good way). It is the trend. Even I love the way MI series shot. Chases. Stunts and all. Now Tom cruise is catching up. He will keep on pushing and who knows, They both may team up in a movie together. 😉 My stand on this is I Love both equally. That's all it is. 😎✌️

There's no way that a film would literally tie an actor to the outside of a plane just for that one brief shot, right? When I looked it up later on, I was absolutely floored by the fact that they actually had done it for real. Just the amount of uncontrollable risk, as explained in this video, is almost overwhelming to think about. for some time I didn't understand why not to use CGI, the effect can easily be the same. But not the same! in fact, the absence of CGI changes - the attitude towards shooting the scene, - the nuances in the scene, - the attitude of the audience to the scene itself (if they know that special effects were not used) - and, accordingly, the scene itself. When you watch the battle scenes in the 1967 film "War and Peace" by Mikhalkov with a huge number of soldiers and you realize that there was no CGI at that time, and all these are just real people, - it is breathtaking. That's why it's worth it.
