How did you miss ALL OF THOSE VIDEO REFERENCES?!?!?! HOW?!? BUSTA RHYEMS, KENDRICK, MISSEY, AND SO MANY MORE. TERRIBLE. UNFORGIVABLE. She usually doesn’t do show out, dance tunes. This is just that but the video is homage to every other hip hop artist to do it first. Album covers and even her flow. Come on guys!!!!

Full agree, but I’ve seen a joe e sparks video before so I know he is a VERY basic videographer so it wasnt a surprise. You can see the abstract nature of the video blowing their little minds. I get the feeling his brother is a very basic MC too. I’d love to hear him try and use a word that doesn’t exist like “nosis” on a track.

This video is directed by Dave Meyers - one of the biggest music video directors of all time!! He’s worked with everyone from Missy to Kendrick and pretty much ever huge pop star you can think of. Many of the shots in this video are a homage to artworks or famous videos… if it feels like there’s a lot in it - that’s why.

Ohhh Joe Joe Joe, cmon bruvva you must realise as a hip hop videographer that this whole video is Dave Meyers paying Homage to all his older work with all those scenes repping older works. Surely you remember Missy Elliot videos there's 2 or 3 repped in here.

From one video director to another… I can’t believe you are unaware of Dave Meyers 😅 He is one OG director alongside other greats like Michel Gondry, Hype Williams, Spike Jonze, McG, Chris Cunningham, Mark Romanek, Anton Corbijn and more. Some are huge film directors now -like David Fincher, who did music videos in his earlier career. Would love to see you do a deep dive into the directors who have played a large part in shaping the direction of the music video genre.

To me she is flexing. She references many past music videos- cultural and artistic references. In the scene where she is looking 👀 ng down within the chalk outlines she References Keith Herring ‘s art and crime scene chalk outlines of a bodies

Also Simz actually does skateboard in a lot of her videos, and she does play tennis every morning, and she used to work in an art gallery. I get the impression her video for Marilyn Monroe was filmed there.

She is fantastic. I feel your guest is dismissive of her. This is her fleecing. I love her dead calm delivery- how she rides the beat and word play. Much more relatable to me than a guy talking about chasing money cars and sex to be relevant.

I honestly don't like this kind of rap at all, it grates on my nerves but for some reason this and Venom I really like no clue why! I do like the fact that she doesn't have to use sex or her body to sell like so many many other female rappers, no sex drugs &violence from little Simz. There's a great live gig too featuring Obongjayar which is totally fab. I find her fascinating
