I am back and talking about the First Quarter Quell because... Suzanne Collins seems to have completely skipped over it? I don't think that's acceptable at all so I'm here to tell you why the 25th Hunger Games won't actually be forgotten about.
Let me know in the comments your thoughts on today's video and any topics you would like me to cover in future videos!

i feel like everyone is forgetting about Effie. We see her struggle with Peeta and Katniss going back into the arena, causing her to finally break through a lot of the Capitol brainwashing. It could be so interesting to see the games from her perspective and see how a Capitol citizen is influenced by propaganda the way we KNOW Effie is. She also has a relationship with Haymitch which could explain the focus on the 2nd quarter quell specifically.

I think people are unsure as to how old Effie would have been at the time but if that book blurb is released with Effie's name anywhere near it I will scream. Effie would be incredibly interesting to read as a narrator and if she is around the same age of Haymitch that would make her the perfect age for a YA protagonist

I think it’ll be from the perspective of Katniss’ mom. Since she was friends with the other tribute and knew Haymitch (and his family and girlfriend were killed after his games) she would’ve been there to see and experience it. She also would narrate what she sees and the struggle of who she wants to come back (having known both of them, being closer to her friend but seeing Haymitch’s loved ones suffering with him being in the arena). Plus we know a hollowed, sad version of her mom, it’ll bring a lot more depth to the OG story by seeing Katniss’s mom be the beautiful, vibrant person that she was before Katniss’s dads death.

I don't want to read about the 25th hunger games, I want to read a story about how the tributes were elected. Maybe see the difference between different district cultures like some careers choosing to run campaigns to try and get into the games, other districts electing the most hated without much hesitation, in others it causes protests and divisions... It would be more interesting to read about what happens before the games. The election should probably be a caucus style to cause maximum chaos.

I don't think they have cards upon cards for the quarter quells, I think that's also just propaganda to legitimise what they're doing. Snow just wanted Katniss to die in the arena, so he came up with an elaborate rule to send her back. Nothing mystical about it.

Oh definitely, in the movies there's a deleted scene with Plutarch burning what seems to be those cards but in the books Katniss points out how she thinks they're lying. 25th Games won by Guillaume LeFievre, age 16, District 11. The games were particularly cruel in my opinion because the people of the districts had to vote for the male and female tributes from their district. Check out Christian Blanco, he has narrative stories on his channel of every single game (obviously fan made but they did get Haymitch’s game right.) The channel started off with written stories on the screen for the first few games, but does switch to narrative story telling as well as goes back to redo the written ones with narrative. Beyond a good listen when you are looking for something to just casual tell you a story while you do stuff.

@davidfairweather3301
@davidfairweather3301 Месяц назад
@@CJs_Galaxyit is interesting how the movie version of Cato and the book version differ so greatly. In the book, he is humanised through his reaction to cloves death. Going from a brutish career to a scared kid who now knows he’s alone in the arena, but obviously this was cut from the movie. But in the finale the movie shows him having an existential breakdown and realising he’s a pawn in the games and that the Capitol never cared about him and the desired winners are Peeta and Katniss. However, in the book Cato does not come to this conclusion. In the book he is still pretty confident he can win. He gets Peeta in a chokehold and is smiling at Katniss and banking on her not shooting fast enough so he can choke Peeta out or snap his neck then use him as a shield to send them both down. The movie version of Cato is a bit more tame. In the book Katniss genuinely thinks he’s unhinged which is understandable cos he was so brainwashed and probably went through years of training which would probably include going from basic combat training to being forced to kill animals to numb his resistance towards taking a life.

Speculating here;\ I think the reason the 50th games book come before 25th is that book's perspective is from the characters we know; like the narrator of Songbirds and Snakes is Snow, albait the Snow before he became bitter, but what I am getting at is during Haymitch's games we'll probably be introduced to either to the winner of 25th games and/or a stylist figure like Cyna to Katniss, who will introduce Haymitch to the rebelion Victors alliance; Telling a story of 25th the only narrator case we'd have would be either Snow (who is now in evil era) or Tigris (who is still a at this point still a pawn of Snow's, too passive in this stage of life), 50th games gives the leeway to introduce the new-old-new person whose perspective of 25th is going to be based on. ! at because I do not remember if Haymitch was ever reffered as seamfolk or merchant folk in the novels - the casting in the movies would suggest merchantfolk; blue eyes and blondish hair, but then Peeta has brown eyes [but we gotta love Josh regardless], but he says that Katniss and him are similar I'd say it's about the temperment and character, but that would hint of him being Seam. I am getting at it, because the possible narrators would be: Maysilee Donner, an ally to Haymitch if it's purely "about the games", but last book wasn't about what's in the games, but what change the games caused - Corio being caught as sent as a peacekeeper to 12th, Siginus following him, ultimetely Siginus death, Plinth fortune getting to Snows so on... So what is The Sunrise is about the Seam and Merchant divide in District 12, and how possibly it had gone deeper when Haymitch and Maysilee split and she died in the end; the Mechant community would be furious not only at the Seam boy, but the entire Seam. And to show that the other posibility for narrator role is the twin of Maysilee latter Mrs. Undersee, or Mrs. Everdeen (Katniss Mom), but since they don't have names and are just reffered as Mrs'es same with No Name Mr. Mellark, Mrs Mellark aka old witch and Katniss' dad or Mr. Hawthorne, I would vouch though for the only other Seamfolk of the reaping age that we know of; Hazelle Hawthorne to be the narrator if the Merchfolk Seamfolk conflict is the theme, to not forget the games aspect, here is the posibility to inforce "mandatory watching" for the district folks
@CJs_Galaxy
@CJs_Galaxy Месяц назад
It doesn't state it in the movies but in the books Katniss points out how Haymitch is from the Seam. I think you're probably right with the class division coming up more in this new novel since Suzanne Collins has talked about propaganda being a prevalent theme. Class division of district twelve and their perspectives would definitely be the best way to represent that
@JustACactus616
@JustACactus616 Месяц назад
As important as it is to understand Haymitch’s story, arguably the most tragic story, I want more stories about different districts. Like for the 25th, we don’t know who won. We could follow three separate characters from different districts and points of view, and we won’t know which one wins since they’re all main characters. They could even show the victory tour if these three characters team up. Like if one of them dies late in the games, and two of the three are last and they have to go against each other to survive. No offense but I’m just sick of district 12
@CJs_Galaxy
@CJs_Galaxy Месяц назад
You're totally right though. I think knowing who wins almost takes some of the tragedy out of the story since we know not to get attached to any particular tribute outside of District 12. Seeing someone else's perspective and not really knowing what will happen will allow us to understand fully how many kids really died in the games
@poxidog
@poxidog Месяц назад
I think it'll be snow and haymitches pov. The first reason is every winner from 12 is in snows eyes a manipulative snake who turned the games to their advantage to win. P&K used the there must be a winner rule, haymitch used the force field, and LG "used" her relationship with snow, and poison which is what snows known for if we remember. The second reason is the tragedy of haymitch. He beat the odds but someone saw his actions as rebellion (maybe someone who felt they were tricked by the last winner from 12?) And his girl, family, maybe even friends were killed for it. He then spent 23 years raising 2 kids a year, watching them suffer and die like he "should" have. That's something best experienced from his perspective but the massacre of his family I think would be too much first person perspective. I kinda feel like these prequels are snows story, what sent him past narcissism and off the deep end in terms of morals

I had a thought while watching this video: We’ve been told that the new book will *start* on the morning of the 50th Hunger Games reaping, but we don’t know if the entire book will just be about the 50th games. It would be incredibly interesting if the story was told from the perspective of the 25th games victor, or someone who was alive during them, and the narrative jumped back and forth between the first and second Quells. We could see how the games have grown and changed over the time period, and how they’ve changed since the 10th games as well. We’d get to see the parallels between the Quells, and how things like mentors, new arenas, and the victor’s monetary winnings were added. We would also probably see Mags, and maybe some of the other older victors that were featured in Catching Fire. I am a bit of a sucker for stories that follow multiple timelines, so I think it would be a really cool idea.

i think the narrator could be Effie mentoring her first hunger games! while the books mention that discrict 12 only got 2 victors and only 1 is alive by the time the first book starts, i think they are mentionint lucy gray and haymitch. so maybe haymitch really doesn't have a mentor and his mentor is the capitol "guide", which in this case could be Effie debouting in her first job. that could make an interesting point of view: having a capitol member who has to work directly in the districts, who probably will be emotionally attached to their tributes, who also will have some insight on the behind the scenes, maybe she will know plutarch and that's how we see his point of view. that also would make the four of the tributes equally important to effie and the reader and not the book focusing only on haymitch, who we know will win the games. by effies point of view we could be seeing the most vulnerable part of haymitch after the games themselves, which i don't think we would be seeing from plutarch's point of view... effie makes a lot of sense to me!! what do you think?🤭 also! first time watching your channel, the video poped up in my recommendations. i really loved the video! you did a great analysis!! new follower here hahaha🤩

I also think it would be interesting to see the 25th Hunger Games from the perspective of someone that was voted for because people thought there was no way others would vote for OR someone who thought no one paid attention to them (mirroring Katniss) so they themself felt they were sure to be safe from the reaping.

Initially, I likedthe idea of the book being narrated by Haymich himself, years after the revolution, where we get glimpses of post-revolution Panem. However, I fear that if this is the case, it could make the story slightly overbearing as there would be a lot of balancing between two different time periods and worlds, even. However, I do also adore your theory of the story being narrated by Plutarch, something about that feels fresh and far more exciting than the latter. Having a Capitol socialite narrate a story of atrocity and corrupt governing while maintaining a moral message/perspective creates a very interesting paradox, especially considering we do not know Plutarch's views at the time. Perhaps his potential involvement in the second quarter-quell will reveal to us why he turned towards the rebellion. I'd love to know what turned him against a system that benefitted him so much, so it is exciting to imagine that we could potentially get some answers about that. SO interesting! Even if your theory does not end up being true, I think you've struck gold with that idea.

Suzanne Collins has shown that she takes inspiration from philosophical questions related to society and the human nature (specially in the last book); it makes me think that people were forced indeed to vote in the 25th games BUT they just didn't in the way the Capitol wanted. Even if they hated the mayor or some peacekeeper, they could hardly bring themselves to vote for their children; perhaps they think that their annulled vote would mean something or that, al worst the Capitol would go back to their normal system to chose the tributes and children's blood would not be in their hands. In any case the Capitol didn't like it and changed the ballots not only to get tributes but to erase the trust people in the districts had in one another.

Haymitch speaks very highly of Mags (its been a while since I read Catching Fire, but in the movies at least he does). So I wonder if she sort of took Haymitch under her wing at some point. Haymitch may not have had an "official" mentor for his games, but I think we'll see Mags as a semi-important side character. That being said, I don't think the games will be the main focus of the book. POVs I think we could get: - Plutarch (people have covered this one a lot - he's a big part of the propaganda in later books, so it would make sense) - Katniss's Mother (we'll actually find out her name!? also, she's friends with Maysilee Donner, one of the other tributes from District 12, so watching her friend die in the Hunger Games would be a HUGE insight into her character) - Maysilee's sister (they were twins, so potentially even a dual perspective - "Real or Not Real" with Maysilee showing the "Real" and her twin sister showing the "Not Real") - Maysilee herself (I have a WILD theory that the twins switched places, that Maysilee's name got called but her twin went in her place whilst the real Maysilee stayed home, assumed her sister's identity, and had to watch her sister fight for her life and eventually die on screen in front of her... and then the real Maysilee had to marry the soon-to-be Mayor of District 12 as a pact to keep her secret hidden, and then she went on to have Madge, who obviously gave Katniss the Mockingjay pin (in the books) that started the whole main trilogy off) Characters I think we will definitely see: - Snow - Tigris - Mags - Beetee - Chaff - Caesar (his first games?) - Plutarch I also think there is *potential* for us to see something to do with Coin. Hell, maybe the story will be from her perspective - how was growing up in District 13, how did she find herself in a position of power there? We got Snow's origin story, why not Coins? And if its a District 13 based story, would there be potential for a Lucy Gray cameo....? 👀

@rhilou32 Damn those are some WILD theories that I cannot necessarily debunk with information in the book... so we'll have to see if you're right or not (the Maysilee theory omg???)

@@rhilou32 I hate the coin and Lucy connection. It’s too on the nose for me. I don’t feel there’s enough room to make that connection at least as of right now. I think Suzanne Collins is really expanding the world of the hunger games by writing on key events in Panems History. The second quell is a perfect second prequel. She is very clearly inspired and I hope she continues to give us defining moments of the county’s history

I'm super hyped too, although I am hoping they mention a lot of the 25th Hunger Games in Haymitch's story

While I like the different ideas people come up with, I don't understand why we're going so far away from the obvious - why wouldn't it be from Haymitch's point of view? The only other POV possible or relevant in my opinion, is Snow's, as the book might serve as a continuation for TBOSAS. Double POVs? I don't know. But whatever Suzanne comes up with - I'm sure it will blow our minds and also be unexpected ♥

I've had so many people say the same thing to me irl so maybe the internet has just messed up my mind. But I do feel like they would have advertised Haymitch himself in the most recent announcement if it was going to be his pov. Who knows though... maybe everyone is overthinking it and you're right.

We know there were people at the 75th who remember the 25th. Mags won the 11th.

Yeah, we definitely do. Unfortunately, though, Mags cannot communicate any of that to us so maybe she will be talking in the new novel to fill in the blanks?

Have you seen Christian Blanko's Tales of the Hunger Games series where he has the winner of the Quarter Quell give away his winnings as revenge for the district having chosen him. That's my tyupe of pettiness

I've always wondered. Would you vote in some of your districts weakest people to get rid of the "dead weight" so to speak. Or would you vote for your strongest in hopes of having a chance at winning.

That's something I've been curious about too. I bet different districts went about their voting very differently too

Isn’t the 25th games the one where the citizens vote who’s gonna go??? I heard that idk if it’s true tho lol it was on some breakdown video of all the games

Yeah the districts voted in their own tributes which is totally evil but we don't know the victor or any other details. I personally want to know why and how the quarter quells were started

I know a lot of people talking about how Haymitch is in the room at the mention of the 25th Hunger Games victor but the only mention to my recollection is Katniss detailing what the rule change was. Effie also sends Peeta and Katniss tapes on victors who are still alive and there is no mention of the first quarter quell (to my memory) so it's safe to assume by then the victor has died
