Bolivia 🇧🇴a beautiful country, with beautiful people and the most extraordinary culture 🙌
It has so many positive things, but sadly, it is still one of the Latin American countries with the highest violence against women.
Some years ago, a group of brave victims of domestic violence 💪in La Paz got together and formed the Cholitas Wrestling association. Initially, it was a place where Cholitas (traditional indigenous Aymara and Quechua women) got together to express themselves and share their frustration over domestic violence. A sort of Fighting Club for abused women.
Over time their club started growing and gaining popularity among young women who felt represented by their frustration, and later on, by the entire population because of how entertaining it gets.
Today, the Wrestling Cholitas has become a symbol of the strength of Bolivian women, and the fighters have even gotten the status of celebrities among the population.
The audiences get so wildly involved they even throw beer and things to the fighters in support of their favorite Cholitas.
It’s inspiring, it’s creative and it a bizarre yet extremely effective way to draw attention to the women’s rights movement 🙌without generating hate against men
