what ACTUALLY Happened at Fontainebleau.. 

It's called a 'rejected landing'. When it is safer to push power and do a 'go around' instead of a bad landing or a crash. The pilot makes the decision.

Things I learned from this video: 1) Don't try to land a plane when it's windy in Las Vegas. 2) Shane, your cameraman, works very hard, not only shooting your videos, but having to help eat some of the food you sample (it's a dirty job but someone has to do it!). 3) Norma, you're a great SCRATCH golfer!! 😄😄😄 Love you Norma! Vegas has a youtube channel that shows the airport all day every day with the convo with Tower. it's fascinating. I bet on that day the convos for rejected landing were awesome. Kuddos to these pilots for making the right call. you should see crosswind landing when planes arrive sideways to the runway. those are terrifying

LOL Yup, need to hold the wine glass by the stem, that's why it is so long so that your hand's body heat doesn't warm up the wine. Brandy is supposed to be warm that is why the brandy glasses are wide and short steamed so you can cradle them in your hand to keep it warm. Great to see Dan again!! Jaycation was in the Phillipines or may have already been in South Korea for the Padres/Dodgers game.

Sometimes, when trying to land with Crosswind, as a plane slows down, the wind can carry the plane off the runway sideways. If there is still enough lift under the wings, making it dangerous for landing. Pilots then have to determine if it’s safer to reject the landing and go around for another attempt. The ultimate goal is to try to get the wind blowing towards the head of the plane when landing as much as possible.

I've had that happen years ago. We started flying out to Primm and I remember waving to Vegas, lol. We did circle back and were able to land, yay!

I have a fear of flying and had to go through this. I was on American Airlines and we went up three times until we landed in Vegas. Coming from Austin to Vegas they have to delay the flight twice and still was not ok to land in. Vegas. This happened Thursday 3/14/24

I remember my first time I went to Ri Ra, my group played a game called Swap Glasses. We basically started at TI, walked out with a glass and visited several bars through out our adventure, leaving the glass from the previous place and taking the glass from the current place out and doing all over again with each place. By the time we got to Ri Ra, we were tanked, and enjoyed some Irish-American fare.

We flew into Vegas two days before that crazy wind! I was going to book us coming in on the windy day thank the Lord I didn't. Great video

There's a RU-vid channel, Happy Landings, that live streams planes taking off and landing at Harry Reid International Airport, along with ATC (Air Traffic Control) audio. There are channels for other airports as well.

[ In answer to Lydia's question: Yes, in a cross-wind situation, it is safer to abort and go around than to risk being blown off the edge of the runway once you're committed to trying to steer while rolling and applying brakes with reverse thrust rolling along on the ground. Now, if it's a tail-wind scenario, you have to remember how far down the runway the heavy plane full of people and luggage will travel after the touchdown. I suspect that what you were seeing was this. They may have touched down, but if they aren't down to a certain speed by a certain point on the runway, they'll have to apply power, take off, and try again. With a strong enough tailwind, you could find yourself overshooting and being blown off the end of the runway! I've never flown an airliner, but I've been flying planes since I was 12. I hope that helps, *_and_* that it didn't make me sound like a poindexter. 😛] If you guys want me to spoil the magic trick, just say the word ... (Hint: It has to do with Penn and Teller!) I *_loved_* this "behind the scenes" and out-takes! Shane's mashed potato-face was priceless! I hope you do more of these!

My first time flying to Vegas it was windy like that. As soon as we came over the mountains the wind hit us from the bottom and hit the plane hard. We ended up landing on one wheel and hit the ground hard. It was wild!

When I came to Vegas in December, the engine “let go” leaving Indy about a minute after takeoff. That was kind of terrifying, but good to know that planes fly just fine with only one engine. 😅

I have both taken off and landed in winds like this. Delayed landing because of pouring rain in Vegas, during the storms that leaked in Planet Hollywood last year. I was also grounded for 4 hours for wind on my layover coming back from Vegas to DC. Flow to Vegas layover in snow storm Denver after 2 hour layover, and deicing the plane. And this was just on my 2 last 3 last fights to and from from Vegas.

My husband and I love Rue Ra! The bartend and waitress were awesome!!! The atmosphere, the food@ Baby Guinness! My husband went there everyday we were in Vegas. When we go back he will be heading straight for Rue Ra!

Ri Ra found crazy memories of that place. Love the fish n chips there. And landing in crazy wind in Vegas sucks so bad. When I lived there I flew out of that airport a lot and on one landing one time we came in sideways. I was literally looking out of window and could see down runway the wheels hit the ground and plane whipped around... broke out in cold sweat.

That happened to me once in orlando after a hurricane passed. It was so crazy being almost on the ground and then going back up. The captain said nothing about it and we were all so confused. Flew in circles for a bit then landed fine.

Saw the plane thing live once myself as I was riding down LV Blvd on a motorcycle in high winds. Was messed up.

I was on one of the Southwest flights.They had us wait in Ontario,Ca for an hour cuz air traffic was "backed up". We had some crazy turbulence and the landing was just THUMP! Wasn't too bad ... we made it.

That video style flows well not over doing anything .

My wife and I went through that. We almost touched down and then it lifted back up and circled back around. It was definitely nerve wrecking.

10 times when I flew back home to Chicago Midway. Fog was so bad, you couldn't see anything above a street light. No idea why they didn't divert to Milwaukee. It's frustrating and scary.

Those planes trying to land was nuts.. The worst plane experience I've had is a tire blowing out on takeoff. They had to tow the plane back to the gate and we changed planes.

The night of the oscars which was a Sunday a few weeks ago, I witnessed plane after plane flying super low into the airport. It was the first that I ever seen this and was real crazy! And yeah, It terrified me to fly, they were back to back within 90 seconds of each other behind the other.

I’ve been in planes where the pilot had to abort a land quickly. It’s a bad feeling. One time we were about to hit another plane on the runway. The manuver happened so fast u couldn’t even scream.

How you hold your wine glass actually depends on what kind of wine you’re drinking. White wines, which are normally served chilled, should be held by the stem. Reds are held by the glass.

I had that almost landing happen before. It wasn’t bad physically but it was indeed scary because the pilot made no announcement and didn’t tell us what was going on. A guy behind me who has flown planes before told us what likely was the reason he did it. If not for that I’d be freaking out man.

2 years ago we were on a flight that touched down and went back up in the air. The pilot didn't say anything for like 5 minutes. It was scary lol It's good to see that it's common in case it happens again 😂

Tell Lydia planes always land INTO the wind, not with the wind behind them. That's why they were coming in from a different direction. Also, the second plane floated past the touch-down zone, which is why they had to go around.

Flew into Birmingham AL in the middle of a December Thunderstorm; pilot landed on the 4th attempt after admitting that wind shear was an issue.

the wind is pushing you therefore the landing speed must be adjusted of landing in the winds, or you will lose runway.

The pilots can reject landings if the winds you felt yourself making landing unsafe.

Pilots generally are the ones making the wave-off, or 'rejected/cancelled landing' decision, not the tower...and yes, it's much safer for them to increase thrust and continue flying then it is to land sideways lol due to some wind gust. Also, they are never landing planes of this size with the wind behind them. They always want to take-off and land INTO the wind because the faster the air is moving over the wings, the better.

How can this channel only be at 13k?

Sometimes in strong winds the updraft and/or the plane detects a windshere event/ 2:23 warming is triggered will be over threshold for the wings to safely stay on the ground without risking damage to the wings so in order to protect the wings it is necessary to abort the landing and go around and try again with a hard landing (on purpose) or divert to a less windy airport. Also could be speed and angle of attack issue but pilots know what is safest option and going around is fairly common and nothing to be afraid of in general. Still no fun for the passengers!

I was on a plane that landed like that one time in Tunica MS in horrible wind shear. How the pilot didn't flip that plane I'll never know.

When a plane makes a landing attempt and then ditches it, it’s called a “missed approach”. They are quite common. But especially during high winds, pilots will often get within a few feet off the ground then pull back out cause it just doesn’t feel right. I know it’s Vegas and all but a safe landing isn’t something a pilot will gamble with. 🙌
