100% on all counts! Andy’s videos helped me decide on Shapeoko 4Pro and all the comments in this video are so true and correct. Excellent machine, limited only to what I can dream up. Software is somewhat limited but getting better with each revision, especially with addition of Trim command. Is intuitive and easy to learn. Support by Carbide3D is quick and responsive. I smoked a spindle in the spring, replacement was in the mail the same day, no questions asked. I have started milling projects larger than the bed size, that takes a bit more thought but gets easier with each project. Happy Maker!

Anyone else dream of messing up a beautiful piece of wood stock? I literally had a midnightmare about that last night so I had to giggle a bit when you started talking about that! I agree, this CNC is a great starting out unit and will do quite well for most who need a table top CNC. I still have mine going even though I've moved up to a ShopSabre as we moved to a CNC centric business. The main message here is... CNC work IS reachable for your shops. Don't be afraid to start out at your comfort level. Great episode good luck - loved seeing you two together in a vid!

Guys ,this was a fantastic video. I'm not ready for a CNC yet, but you've taking away some of the scary ideas ( programing) away and pointing out a company that really is trying to help new workers to get started in the right direction. Nothing more frustrating is starting with a new too or process and fight with it and get to a point of wanting to give up, and thinking that you spent or wasted that much $$$ and it's not worked for you. Again Gentlemen, Thank you for taking the time to put together something like this.

Always enjoy your videos and appreciate your talent and creativity. It's amazing what you can make with CNC, although there is a lot to learn. Years ago when I was just beginning to use CAD/CAM, an elderly gentleman remarked at how there is no more tool and die makes or machinists anymore. Now everything is becoming computerized. Like the computer figured out and did everything for you. As a woodworker, machinist, or some type of maker, you have to know how to make the piece, how to hold the material , cutting tools, speeds and feeds and numerous other things. Then when you get into CNC, you have to take that knowledge with you. If you want to program with a computer, it takes learning how to use the software and telling that software what you want to do. Then turn those instructions into a program that your CNC can read, understand and execute according to your instructions. There's a lot to learn. But once you do, and become proficient with cutting tools, methods and techniques and software, it really is amazing what you can create.

Great video. I have watched both of you for different reasons. It was nice to learn Matt is a cnc guy also. I have been watching the power tool videos lately. Andy thanks for all the cnc info just watched your comparison video and the new shapeoko 5 video and your new january update today. I will be getting into some woodworking after we get into a house, no room for it now. Both of you have the great passion to help others and it is an awesome thing. Thanks to you both.

Great video gentlemen, your video brought up some great points. I am also new to CNC routing, and there is a lot to learn. At times it is very difficult without any support system but the best thing to do is to push through. I think if either one of you published a video on just crashes and how to recover from them it would be awesome. Thank you both keep making!

For work holding, think of using a vacuum table.

Really like the video. Lots of good info. My dumbass bought a 4x8 industrial cnc and decided to use fusion 360. 4 months ago I knew nothing about CAD or cnc, now I know almost nothing, start small guys, it can be a real uphill battle

Great video guys, very informative. Do you think the endmill starter pack is enough to get started with for basic CNC, anything else you would add as "not necessary but nice to have?"

I'm only a couple of weeks away from taking the plunge into CNC and counting the hours. Andy and yourself as well as Garrett Fromme from IDC have taken all the fear of using the software out of the equation, I know I am going to make mistakes sometimes expensive ones but I am ready to go down that road knowing I am not alone 😅😅

Do you guys recommend buying a small CNC to test out whether you like it/able to learn it or not? Something like a Genmitsu 3018.

Bought my Fox alien 4040 and within 2 weeks it paid for itself.

Great video. Would you say that you need to replace routers often? I don't have a CNC (yet), but I know that sometimes the router can be running for an hour or so on a CNC.

Hey Andy and or Matt, I saw a video comparing the Shapeoko (X?) and the more expensive Pro version. It showed the speed upgrades and the general improvements of tracks etc. Do you feel it’s worth it to make the greater initial investment into the pro? I guess the question is will the benefits pay for themselves in time or are they not enough to make the additional costs worth it. Thx.

Can I put that plastic plexiglass in CNC?

I moved away from beginner toys and bought a shopbot last week.

I love using carbide create for software but at 9:29 you said that all other cncs can use this as well. This is starting not to be true as carbide create is starting to lock down their software to only their products. Before you could save the gcode directly from carbide create to a usb and plug it into a different cnc like a onefinity. Now they are not allowing you to create the gcode and save it in the free version. They are holding it ransom unless you buy the pro version. In my opinion this is anticompetitive and will be the result in me switching from using carbide create to v carvpro.

Your comments regarding project videos becoming obsolete is very discouraging. My hopeful next steps were creating a business name and logo with some cards and signage, to establish a web presence, RU-vid, etc., and do at least 2 local craft events this year. Maybe I'll just forget the RU-vid piece.....
