Why am I paying for a post office box when it makes their life easier and is cheaper if they don’t have to go the last mile? Makes no sense even if it’s a joke!
@@LifeAfterlife42x thank you. He was a letter carrier, and they work like dogs. My dad used to get irritated because the old cliche about the post office being slow is due to lazy clerks, the only employees the public see. They stand behind the counter with no sense of urgency, they're generally rude, and they'll just shut and lock the doors at closing time, even if there's a line of people waiting. Their jobs are sort of a joke amongst other postal employees because they take people's packages charge for the postage, then toss the package into a large bin behind the counter. They're not even responsible for emptying the bin. Mail sorters in the back do that. But by the time my dad retired, he'd constantly comment about how it was a good job when he was hired 28 years prior, but nowadays it's not even worth the salary they're paid. Side note: After my parents divorced, the postmaster told my dad to take a couple of weeks off to collect himself. That man missed 2 days of work in 28 years. No way was he going to take leave. But they forced him to. At the time, he had a huge black Dodge Ram 4wd with a police mount for a shotgun on the dash. You could see about the top 7 or 8 inches of the barrel of his Mossberg 500. They didn't pity him. Hell, they were worried he might snap and shoot up the place. As an act of defiance, he bought a shirt for the day he returned to work. It was the USPS logo, except the eagle had an AK-47 in it's claws, and the back of the shirt read "Disgruntled Postal Workers, local union #187." 😂 Crazy s.o.b.! I miss him every day.
I still pay for a PO Box because there's NO STREET DELIVERY in my town. A po box is required if I live "in town." However, I'm in a rural area, so the 8,000 people who are scattered in various and sundry nooks and crannies miles and miles out of town get free delivery to their boxes at the end of their driveways. Only us 2000 town residents are REQUIRED to rent a box. Go figure.
