In the ICU, we use vasopressors like Norepinephrine and Epinephrine to stimulate these receptors. Let's break it down:
1️⃣ Alpha-1 Receptors are located in vascular smooth muscle (think peripheral vessels)
Activation = Vasoconstriction
Effect = Increased blood pressure, redirects blood to vital organs
2️⃣ Alpha-2 Receptors (found in various other tissues, including the CNS)
Activation = Inhibits norepinephrine release, reduces sympathetic nervous activity
Understanding these receptors is crucial for effective critical care 💉
