does the head need need to be forged in to rough shape first? Can you get a quality product from fully milling raw stock?

Excellent video and information my question is would it be Cheaper if they were to Forge it like a regular forging Up to a certain point and then finish the rest in a CNC machine Maybe the face ,sole and some parts of the back portion of the clubs instead of milling a whole block?

Seven currently mills from a large forging with optional solid block at an up charge. Many brands mill back face, face, sole. But that doesn’t solve two extremely important factors.. 1. shape, you cant nail a perfect shape based on the original design and 2. CG locations as designed. Full CNC is made with extreme performance and accuracy of weight distribution, cg height, depths etc.

Yes, I suppose it will be cheaper as the hosel waste lots of material and milling time. Dimensionally it will the same tolerance as full cnc milling a block of metal. However, comparison on metal grain uniformity is debatable depending of the material and forging process. Actually it will be interesting if somebody try to make the ultimate irons by metal sintering maraging steel then cnc milling it. Again it will be the same precision dimensionally but the sintering will give the ultimate metal grain uniformity. I am currently using MFS cnc milled irons from Korea, it feels better and looks more expensive due to sharp edges in the details and shapes which cannot be achieved by forging. Bo Xing Miura is mold/grind method. Cant compare to full CNC. Miura is mold forged + precision press then spin weld followed by hand grind. doesn’t come close to full cnc precision.

I hand mill every one of my cast irons with a metal file. I ad weight back to my clubs with lead tape. I would put my hand filed clubs up against any other milled irons on the market.

So looking at seven and doing some math; I am wondering how they are even turning a profit? The math does not add up with the very open information they give on their site.

@@Tourspecgolf Ah I see my potential error. When I had originally looked at their site the only clubs I saw were the MCB irons. The site says "...they only make 6 sets each month and some months they do not even run..." So, the math was ((6x4,000)x12)=$288,000 gross on their flagship product. This is of course not their only product. However, at the time I factored in labor, shop time, mats, tools, cross ocean shipping, interstate shipping. Net profit seems low.
