I asked Norwegians what Norwegian stereotype is the most true in their opinion and which is not so true, and here is what they had to say.

It's sad they have to get drunk to even open up and/or talk to a person. Resided in Sweden and they seem like this. Just going on a morning stroll and saying hi to a person you see every morning going for a walk is out of the ordinary.

@OverTheVoids

I mean, even in more social societies it still helps. Obviously the Northern Europeans take it to the extreme. As someone who comes from the US, there is definitely a capability to socialize without alcohol, but the downside is that much of that talking is just small talk for the sake of making noise. Like it's interesting (and unhealthy in its own way) seeing how horribly uncomfortable people can get here if everyone just sits there in silence, yet people in a country like Finland will just huddle around a fire to drink and merely enjoy each other's physical company / presence.

@junotraung8547
@junotraung8547 10 месяцев назад
@@Shirumoon Scandinavians (at least Swedes and Norwegians) tend to drink mostly during the weekends. When we actually do drink we do it properly (get wasted) which makes it easier for everyone to socialize. I think that’s why they’re mentioning alcohol so much. It’s basically the easiest and most common way to meet new people here. Although this is almost exclusively during the weekends or the holidays, regular weekdays we barely drink and if we do it’s mostly light stuff which might be the answer to why we statistically drink less than in other cultures where it’s normal to have one glass every day.

In a big city it's fucking annoying if a lot of people come up to you and start bothering you :D mind your business, don't bother people, don't be superficial / false. You wont say hi to everyone you meet in a big city lol.... But in smaller places it's quite normal to say hi to people you pass on the street or wave to passing car's etc... If you wanna make friends find something you have in common, you can of course just try to go and talk with someone, should work but will probably be a little awkward :p

I have a couple or more lite beers or a bit of wine per day,….. along with a prime quality diet. I drink beer and some wine for health optimization. What I'm hearing is that Norwegians have a drinking problem. Although most countries have a drinking problem. It doesn't seem to occur to anyone that over decades of alcohol consumption their brains and bodies deteriorate considerably. Even small amounts of Alcohol does damage. All because they lack the skills or confidence to talk to humans without drugging themselves up. Despite the fact that these people just laugh about it, it's just sad.

I was born in Minnesota so there was a fairly high number of Norwegian Americans there. They can seem cold, distant, quiet and reserved so I’ve heard people complain about their “lack of friendliness”. There’s a positive flip side to this stereotype though, once they gauge you as trustworthy and that you can mind your own business, they would give you the shirt off their backs. They also tend to be good employees, good neighbors & good bosses.

Regarding to the alcohol. My husband is Norwegian and he rarely drinks. In his friends and family circle is not common to drink either. People do drink lots coffee though, I meet up with Norwegian friends over coffee/tea and cakes(home baked of course).... I don't feel people need alcohol to speak to. Maybe to have small talks with a complete stranger, perhaps it is not their thing, but if you are in work place, your friends circle, or you are in a hobby club, society, etc you just talk with people like anywhere else. Norwegians are very easy going, friendly and fun. They are easier to get along with than the Swedes and Danes in my opinion, perhaps because they have less population, and the oil money make their society less competitive, everyone is just chill and at peace.

Antisocial- Goes against the social norm or laws because of hate towards society and people in general (misanthropy). Characterized by sociopathy and psychopathy, mental disorder found mostly in dictators and can affect both extroverts and introverts. Asocial- Preference for solitude despite belonging to a social group, does not hate society nor the social norms found in it. The majority are introverts. Just a small clarification.
