Yo hablo elénico antiguo :) If you hear a word beginning "pn" or "pt", you can be pretty sure it's not Spanish. Una vez corregí a un pastor que dijo "neuma" (señal manual, nota musical) en vez de "pneuma" (espíritu).

Don't Greeks refer to their language as Helenic or something like that? Basically Elena is Greek.

@@lissandrafreljord7913 Yes, we call ourselves Έλληνες (Hellenes) and our language Ελληνικά (Hellenic language or the neuter plural form of Hellenic). Historically Γραικοί (Graeci) and Ρωμιοί (Romans) were used as well but nowadays few Greek people self identify as such (I would say only people that have recent roots in Asia Minor identify as Roman).

Galicians and Asturians pronunciation is very similar to modern Attic Greek and we tend to confuse with each other we speaking in public. Modern Castilian is also similar, but they seem to overuse the TH / Θθ sound much more than the former.

I think you’ve got the impression that Spanish is spoken everywhere precisely because you’re American. Spanish is THE language of the Americas and is growing in the US, however in Europe speaking French or German is more usefull and in Africa your French will help greatly. In Asia none of the romance languages will help much. The only language that is truly useful on EVERY continent is English right now

@@sans_hw187 I agree and disagree with some of things you’re saying . I agree that English is probably the language that is most useful to know globally , however this is a Romance language channel so my focus was on those languages , I was in no way stating that Spanish is more spoken then English , simply that in my experience , I always find people that speak Spanish when I travel within Europe and the America’s . I agree that in Asia and probably most of Africa Im probably not going to find Spanish speakers but no one’s really trying to go to those places honestly lol . All my friends in Europe and Latin America , either travel within Europe or somewhere in the America’s. A few maybe go to like Dubai or Australia maybe Morocco but in general , Asia and Africa aren’t places most people I know go to . Also , Spanish is the second most spoken language by native speakers and is spoken in 4 continents. It is 4th most spoken globally as well . It’s one of the most studied languages in the world and besides English , Spanish is the only language that’s somewhat global . I’ll Give you an example . There are billions of Chinese and Indian people yet does anyone know any of their tv shows or their music or their celebrities ? However Spanish music and tv series and our dances etc are known everywhere . Go anywhere in the world and i bet they can name a Spanish song or 2 like despacito, or they’ll know shows like casa de papel or elite or casa de Flores . I’ve never heard an Indian or Chinese song on the radio or at the club in any of the 30 countries I’ve been too but I have been to places like Hamburg Germany and have heard a Spanish song or 2 at the bar 🤷🏻‍♂️

@@alexurfantasy It’s true that I may have given the impression that I was defending english in my comment but It was by mistake. English is not my native language btw. My point was more about the bit excessive importance you give to spanish in comparison to other romance languages, which is typical (and it’s 100% normal and logical) of Americans. In Europe (where I live), Spanish is less spoken than both French and Italian, french being in particular spoken natively in 4 countries (I don’t count Monaco). Spain is geographicaly relatively isolated and isn’t quite an economic powerhouse, so Germans and Dutch people speak overall more french because France Belgium and Switzerland are around and it’s thus more interesting for business. It’s true that more and more Brits and Germans study spanish since that’s where many spend their holidays, but that often doesn’t go much beyond “una cerveza por favor” In Africa, spanish is only spoken in Equatorial Guinea, a small country. By comparaison Portuguese is spoken in 5 and French in around 25 countries, being the continent with the most native French speakers. But as you said still not that many tourists visit Africa. In Asia, nada, rien, except Lebanon for French but that not what people have in mind when they think of Asia In Oceania there is New Caledonia but it’s a French Territory, and also french polynesia That’s just why I wanted to nuance the fact that Spanish is spoken in 4 continents, that’s true, but 90% of native spanish speakers live in the Americas, where it by far surpasses other Romances languages in terms of diffusion. It explains why many Americans feel like Spanish is the only relevant foreign language to learn, because it is just everywhere around them. And it is 100% right, if there is one (romance) language that an American should learn it’s Spanish. However some Americans think that USA = the world and thus that this reality applies to any other place in the world, which is a mistake. (When I say USA = World it’s a cliché and I’m not saying that Americans are all ignorant about the outside world at all, only a portion of the population which obviously doesn’t include you since you’ve travelled a lot and speak many langages) Anyway the best option is to learn them all since they’re all great in their own ways !! :)

Que bien. Yo soy gallega, y sé hablar protugués porque estuve aprendiendo por mi cuenta, y me encanta su acento. Además de que es un idioma muy parecido al galego, prácticamente compartimos muchísimo vocabulario, gramática... Y vivo a 20 min de Portugal, lo visito y veo a los portugueses como vecinos. También hablo inglés B2 (estuve 4 meses en Erasmus en Irlanda). Y mi idioma favorito, teniendo en cuenta que tengo favoritismo por las lenguas romance, es el Italiano. Me parece "molto bella". Suena melódica, alegre, y hasta incluso diría que una forma refinada del español, porque casi todas las palabras acaban en vocal, lo que lo hace más agradable. El protugués también me gusta porque tiene sonidos suaves.

Porque el portugués de portugal foneticamente, es prácticamente inalcanzable para los nativos de otros idiomas. El portugués de Brasil está más accesible para aprender y pronunciar. En inglés y español esto no aplica

O sotaque padrão de Lisboa/Coimbra dificulta imenso a aprendizagem do português europeu.

Creo que, en parte, lo hacen para bromear con Leo xd.

Non possiamo giudicare lingue che non abbiamo mai sentito, non credi? Se mi chiedessi le mie lingue preferite ti direi tre europee perché le ho sentite parlare dal vivo e da nativi, lo Swahili per esempio non lo mai sentito quindi è difficile potergli dare un giudizio.

Galego e português são a mesma língua, por mais que isso custe aos "españolitos". Basta ouvir uma pessoa mais idosa de lá para perceber, e a larga maioria dos filólogos concorda com este ponto de vista... [Lindley Cintra, Leite de Vasconcelos, Marco Neves, Ramón d'Andrés, etc.]

Ao aprender galego, na prática está a aprender "português" com ortografia do castelhano, porque é disso que se trata. A estruturação da língua é essencialmente portuguesa, e as diferenças na ortografia são meramente artificiais. E não, ela não estuda o português brasileiro por desconhecimento, até porque ela já conhecia o português brasileiro antes de conhecer o português europeu e até fez um vídeo a explicar o porquê de o italiano ser até mais fácil de aprender que o português europeu, apesar de o português brasileiro ser a variedade padrão mais fácil de aprender para falantes de espanhol.
