I highly recommend the textbook "Material Science and Engineering" by Callister and Rethwisch which you can get here amzn.to/4cn2v8v
Plastics are used in millions of applications due to their good mechanical properties, ease of manufacturing and low cost. In this video we explore the science behind these materials to provide an introduction to polymer science.
00:00 Introduction
00:08 Why are polymers important?
00:55 What is a polymer?
02:00 Chemical bonding types in polymers (Covalent bonds and van der Waals forces)
03:29 Types of polymer chains (linear, branched, cross-linked)
04:35 Crystalline vs amorphous structures
05:35 Classification of polymers (Thermoplastics, elastomers and thermosets)
06:50 Tensile properties (Chain entanglement)

Hı professor can you give a bit more examples about applications of *thermosets and thermoplastics*?

Sure. Here are a few more examples of thermoset and thermoplastics. There are lots more online: Thermoset Epoxy Resin: Widely used in adhesives, coatings, and composite materials. It is known for its excellent mechanical properties and high thermal and chemical resistance. Epoxy is often used in the automotive and aerospace industries. Phenolic Resin: Commonly used in the production of circuit boards and as an insulator in electrical components. It's known for its high heat resistance and electrical nonconductivity. Thermoplastic Polypropylene (PP): Commonly used in packaging, automotive parts, and textiles. It's known for its resistance to fatigue, chemical resistance, and insulating properties. Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC): Used in pipes, medical devices, and window frames. It's known for its durability, chemical resistance, and good insulation properties.
