WOW! Over too many years of playing/learning-(never stop learning) This is the clearest explanation of "power chords" I've ever heard. Not only that but the way it's presented must give so much encouragement to begginers it's priceless. I'll be pointing many folks to this. Just superb!!

Holy crap so apparently I was doing power chords on the Top E string without realizing they were power chords, this helped me out so much cuz now I can actually understand the progression of it throughout.

Thank you so much! This was incredibly helpful! I’ve been playing guitar for a few years on my own and know how to play some Blink182 riffs and such and have been using power chords and know how to play them very well,but I never knew the theory behind it, and this was the simplest video on RU-vid! Awesome video!

Wow,thank you soooo much! It’s all clear now. Just have to learn the notes on the e and a string. I thought it was so confusing with e as a string,e as a note and e as an open chord. Thought it had nothing to do with each other and now I can see the connection! 😱🙏🏼 Maybe just one more question,sometimes power chords are played with three fingers,right? So what about those names,...? Thanks again sir,big thumbs up!
@leejohnblackmoremusic
@leejohnblackmoremusic 5 лет назад
The power chords with 3 fingers will just be the 1st, 5th and the 8th. The 8th is what we call the "octave" it's the same as the 1st exept it's a higher tone. This will make the power chord sound bigger. You just add the pinky next to the 3rd finger (on the next string). Thanks bro😎👌🎸

I am just curious. Using acoustic ,what are good reasons to use power chord over barre chords or open chords? G power chord, G barre chord and G open chord still has sound different?
@leejohnblackmoremusic
@leejohnblackmoremusic 3 года назад
Sometimes you might not want that full sound including the major or minor third. It really depends on what you're playing. For the same reason you would choose to play single notes or multiple notes. It's what we call 'voicing' in music. It gives us a different texture or a different sound.

@dmaikibujin

I'm not sure I understood it clearly... When you were talking about using Power Chords in place of Minor chords did you mean that for instance that the same standard G Power Chord (G5) can be used to replace both a G Major chord and a G Minor chord?
@leejohnblackmoremusic
@leejohnblackmoremusic Год назад
Yes, because 5ths power chords don’t contain the 3rd as the third determines whether it’s major or minor 👍
@dmaikibujin
@dmaikibujin Год назад
@@leejohnblackmoremusic Thanks for the quick reply! Could they also replace Dominant 7 chords? Or would they really not sound right?
@leejohnblackmoremusic

Any chord, but it won’t sound like a 7 as it’s only a first and a fifth👍

How do u find minor in Power cord
@leejohnblackmoremusic
@leejohnblackmoremusic Год назад
There is no major or minor with a power cord, it’s real name is a fifth chord, hence one and five, it needs to have a minor third, if you want it to be a minor or major third, if you wanted to be a major👍
