If you don't know what sail slugs are and you're raising/lowering your mainsail on the bolt rope, you might find this video helpful and informative!
We installed sail slugs and now our mainsail raises quickly and effortlessly, and when it comes down it flakes itself. Why didn't we do this sooner??
The entire cost was $41.45 from sailrite.com. The parts list is:
Part # 23308, Slug Nylon Round (1/2 inch): (3) five-packs
Part # 24105, Screw-On Plastic Shackle Wide (5/8 inch): (3) five-packs
Part # 3543, Sail Track Stop Round (1/2 inch): (1) piece
We're considering running the main halyard to the cockpit so Jenn doesn't have to go up on deck to raise the sail. Now that we have slugs, that's a possibility. Until then, with the slugs, she can raise/lower the sail much easier, much more quickly, and she doesn't have to fiddle with trying to feed the sail into the mast channel while we're being rocked by wakes. Much safer!
We also cut the bolt rope free (it had shrunk) and greatly improved our sail shape. That video can be found here: • How to Cut the Bolt Ro... )
