I just watched an elder teach a lady how to read the stars through song line. A walk, the stars shown & then she was left to walk 2.5 km through bush, around hills, trees using 3 stars. It wasn't a perfect path, but she did end up where she was walking to. Absolutely amazing & it's something that should be put down for future generations. We are talking about knowledge passed down in song, dance, stars and geography. This is over 10's of 1000's of years old, not a 1000 or 2000 yrs. It is amazing, stunning, what a legacy, what a outstanding culture. The 1st inventors, to right they are. I had respect for Aboriginal culture, now it's a love for these beautiful people. A treaty should be written into the constitution with the Voice to determine, to let aboriginals determine their own future. It's a absolute tragedy that 1st nations stories are being lost today, especially the Aboriginals, because it's the oldest culture on the planet still here. If your a young aboriginal person you should be & l know they are proud, deliriously proud of your people, your blood, your ancestors. Learn these old ways to connect with your elders and ancestors, one day to survive you will need this knowledge, the whole Planet needs to learn the 1st nations stories. They were & are the most knowledgeable people ever to walk this planet and walk it they did. Live connected to the land, sky, waterways, people & we to can be as intelligent as they were.
We Senegalese do this, but with our ancestors. I know about the personality traits of some of my ancestors going back a thousand years. Each family line has a song and it adapts as the generations come and go.
Listening to this wonderful talk, we've got to ask ourselves, who is primitive and who is advanced? Those cultures that have been destroying Mother Earth, or those who have been respecting and protecting it for milllennia??
@@rogerroger6049 You should listen to some quantum physics theorists ramble about the ideas they have had and you will hear them using similar language, and things that sound absurd without the right understanding or data. It goes without saying that the aboriginal people who formed this belief didn't have that kind of empirical evidence, but could have induced visions or some kind of uncommon state of perception in the heat, dancing and walking sometimes for extremely long periods of time, as many "spiritual" traditions utilize, or even by using DMT which is known to occur in the acacia trees in AU, though there is no evidence for use there. DMT can allow you to gain knowledge that you have not physically had access to. It sounds crazy, and I hesitate to even mention it, because it is not something I can defend with evidence, only experience. However, if you ever have a chance to try it, your concept of reality gets so much bigger and complex. It is not something you might entertain, and it's not the same kind of system as scientific method, but I thought this would at least be entertaining to share. Thank you for your kind patience.
Colin does such a good job in explaining core elements of Aboriginality. He speaks clearly and succinctly which i an Anglo-Celtic Australian readily engage with and enjoy.
I question whether "moving on because we don't destroy anything" was just as much about moving on because hunting would be more efficient where prey species were more numerous and less travelling was needed to reach them, compared to the recently depleted area. If true this would suggest that "not destroying things" was just a happy coincidence rather than the primary motivator for moving on. With small numbers of people and low technology, this would make sense as a primary lifestyle driver. Too much credit is given as "the original environmentalists" (especially in today's woke rewriting of facts) when in reality it was simply that the most efficient way of prioritising themselves, first and foremost, happened by coincidence to benefit their environment at the same time. Had feeding their families more efficiently required greater destruction, they would have prioritised their children just as any other culture does. It was just chance that the hunter-gatherer lifestyle meant that prioritising your own hunting success coincided with moving on when a "cut-off" point, in terms of gain-for-effort, was reached, which was before an area was cleared completely.
The aboriginal peoples of Australia and many other hunter gatherer groups have a deep spiritual relationship and respect for the land they live on as well as other organisms they share the land with. Their religion is interconnected with the land itself. They have also accumulated a lot of knowledge and wisdom about surrounding wildlife after years and years of living off of the land. Because of this, they know that it is not smart to deplete a whole region of resources because that will just bite them in the butt later, kind of like what you were saying. But it goes deeper than that. They understand the concept that we all share the same breath, so to speak, meaning all lives of the ecosystem (including humans) are interconnected. Therefore it would go against their whole belief system to completely destroy the resources of a place even if it meant greater efficiency in food extraction in that moment. They also knew that extracting all of the resources from one place was never a good idea because then they would be left with nothing in the end, even if the effects didn’t show until years later. The aboriginal Australians were experts in maintaining biodiversity, they had very complicated hunting systems that aimed to create a balance between predator and prey populations (you should read more about it it’s really interesting). “Aboriginal people believe in a number of deities, often depicted as animals, plants, or landscape features. They believe that the land is imbued with the power of Ancestor Spirits, and that they are connected to the land and its associated nature.” Therefore depleting resources is not only “inconvenient” in the long run but it also goes against their religion, because they would see it as killing the gods and going against the creator.
What does this matter?! He has a nice energy...lets not feed in to the dark's desire for devision. I would like to point out, who knows what race any of us have experienced, (or are right now in simultaneous lives)? There shouldn't be ownership of cultures.
Song Line it's about this great country of Australia none Aboriginal people didn't learn this they need more educated about my ancestors Australia but they never never know never been there never seen that ❤️💛🖤💯
