Industrial storage tanks are containers used for storage of oil, gas, water and petrochemical products. They can be underground, aboveground, horizontal, vertical, made of steel, plastic etc. Tanks are stored in areas commonly referred to as off sites or tank form. Common types of storage tanks are:
1. Cone-Roof Tanks They are low-pressure tank is used for many products, including petroleum, chemicals, food and water. Another low-pressure storage vessel is the flat-roof tank.
2. Floating -Roof Tanks The roof of this tank is rises and lowers with the stored contents, therefore reducing vapor loss and minimizing fire hazard. It is commonly found in oil refineries.
3. Low-Temperature Storage Tank This tank stores liquified gases at their boiling point. Product found in such tanks including ammonia (-28 degree F), propane (-43 degree F) and methane (-258 degree F)
4. Horizontal Pressure Tanks (Bullet) Bullet tanks are used for shop fabricated vessels used to store products under high pressure. Heads of these vessels are either elliptical or hemispherical, the later is used when higher pressure is required. Common application is LPG. (liquefied petroleum gas)
5. Horton sphere Pressure Tank This tank is used to store large quantities of liquid or gases under pressure. a plant site may make it more advantageous to use this tank. Typical examples are LNG (liquefied Natural gas)..
