Choosing the right shoe for Swing Dancing is super important - you want to make sure you're comfortable and also safe. In this video I'll give you tips on what to look for in a swing dancing shoe, including some cheap and free options, for both leads and follows. I'll explain how you can turn a regular shoe into a dance shoe, and then I'll take you on a tour of my collection and talk about some of my favourite specialised dance shoes and why I love them.
General tips are to choose a shoe that is comfortable and allows you to move freely and slide across the floor. Avoid anything with too much grip, as well as sandals and spiky high heels, all of which can be dangerous for you and other people on the dance floor.
About me: I'm a Swing and Blues dancer and teacher based in Sydney Australia. I am also a shoe addict...

I do recommend Werner Kern shoes. They make top class dance shoes for all the dance styles, they have a line dedicated to swing dances too. The company is based in Germany.

Thanks for the tip, I hadn't heard of that brand before so I took a look at their website and they have some shoes that would definitely work for Swing Dancing! I'd avoid anything with a narrow or high heel (like you might wear for Latin dance styles) as it can be a bit dangerous for Swing Dancing. But their dance sneakers look really cute and comfortable, and the low block heels look great too.

@@joyuen3649 You're welcome! The quality of the shoes is superb, superior to many brands I've tried over the years, and they make shoes for wider feet too. I have a pair of their sneakers and of Emma Comfort low-heel shoes (and some more for Latin dances :-)).
