This is the triumphant return of our 1972 Dodge Polara ex-Washington State Patrol car! In this video we show you the differences between a 1972 and a 1973 Dodge Polara which is...not a lot? Maybe the most similar Mopars made but they look totally different. The 5 MPH bumpers really messed stuff up in 73. Both of these are ex-Washington State Patrol police cars, hope you enjoy the video!

Very similar to my Dad's 69 Fury III WSP car. He bought it in 71 for $1100 with 62k miles. That same summer we took it on a 4000mi road trip all around the western US. It performed flawlessly. The only hiccup was it had to have back brake shoes in LA before we could go to Disneyland...

I had a 73 Polara Custom, i really liked tail lights, and the rear, kinda badass tail lights. But in front, 72 looks better

The 5 mph bumpers were not kind styling.

Tom, back in the day I never gave a 2nd look at a "C" body- unless it was in my rear view mirror with a flashing roof rack. but I have to admit, showing off all yours has really got me started giving them a look in a new light(no pun intended). Thanks for sharing and showing them off.

You’re welcome! Always had a thing for the 69-73 fuselage C Bodies, just a classic design and they drive so well.

Seat belts for Chrysler were a hot mess in 1972. Not only did the shoulder harness randomly detach it's self from the lap belt, (you had to put on the lap belt, then fish out the shoulder harness, and attach it at the buckle) but there were nightmareish buzzing interlock ignition killer deals, where one could not start the car unless the seatbelts were NOT fully retracted, and there was a butt in the driver's seat. They were mostly bypassed by dealerships, I think. I love the fancy hideaway headlights on the fronts of the 72s.

Love the dodge and Plymouth police cars so much. I need to add one to my collection. Would pair well with my 69 and 71 Ford Interceptors. Thanks for sharing them.

Both the 72 and 73 Polara were featured in the movie "Sugarland Express" directed by Steven Spielberg.

I've been getting into early Polaras and Furys, did the 70/71 Polara have a different rear door lower design? The 72 is gorgeous. Chris

The shell is very similar but believe rear doors are different. Would have to double check in my Hollander book.

Cool cars. I like the gold 72 the best. BTW... they are called quad headlights when there are 4 of them. I'm guessing they both have 318s in them.

If a young guy were interested in starting to look for a vintage police car of any make and in poor but running condition, what would be a good starting price to work with,I'm located in Ohio?

Very hard to find solid cars, these were used up by police departments and then sold to places like taxi companies or super cheap people. A good runner that isn't completely rusted out can easily be $10-15k, projects cheaper than that. @@chrisluzny2222

I think you are so wrong. I think the rear lights and bumper on the 1973 is way nicer than the 1972. As for the front the grill and bumper on the 1972 looks like it is frowning and sad but the 1973 the front grill and bumper looks like the car is smiling the 1973 is a happy car.

I never really liked the low quad headlights on the '72s. I agree, it does look like a frown.
