The average cost of the energy bills for using the following dryers Vented is around £3 per hour Condenser is around £1.50 per hour Heat pump is around 75p per hour The above is only an estimated price.
Question; I’m moving into my first adapted bungalow. I keep going back & fourth between a condenser & a heat pump tumble dryer. I *know* heat pump tumble dryers are more energy efficient, but if I’m living alone & potentially only using a tumble dryer once, *maybe* twice a week just to take that air dried crispness out of clothing / sheets / towels (so they’re really only in for perhaps 5-10 minutes) is it really worth getting a heat pump? Desperate for advice as I’m so confused! Many thanks!
Great question and always a difficult one to be honest. If it is used a lot then the payback period is quick. If the dryer is only used once or possibly twice a week then unless it has a 5 year warranty as standard then it may not be worth it if you are looking at saving money in the long run.
@@lords-electrical I know, it’s a difficult one isn’t it! The more affordable / cheaper heat pump ones are still nearly £70+ more expensive than a decent condenser, my clothes / sheets etc are hardly wet going in (mostly dry), & I just feel the pay back wouldn’t be for such a long time for someone like me. I love the idea of a heat pump though, perhaps as they become more developed later down the line it may be something to consider, but I think for me for now it’s best to perhaps stick to a condenser. I appreciate your honesty & advice, thank you!
Sounds like you dry very similar to how I do it. I put clothes on an airer from the washing machine for a while until they are nearly dry. Then just give them a last blast in the dryer to finish off. Also reduces the amount of shirts I need to iron 😄
