This video is very helpful I got my twin blocks in January 2020 and I didn’t have much idea what to expect so for anyone getting these braces just stick with it and follow your orthodontist advice the best you can. Top tip is do Nottt remove and place the braces up and down in ur mouth this breaks the wires and causes them to pop out I know it’s satisfying but just avoid it. Yes it will be sore on ur teeth for the first 4 days it does go down and u forget u have them in. Good luck to anyone reading this

This thing is worth it if ur watching this bc ur getting these braces. Honestly the twin blocks have fixed my jaw and it makes you look so much better. I had to have them before my fixed braces that I’ve got now. When you get them you will literally not be able to talk and will have a really bad lisp. It will make your teeth hurt while eating and will smell really bad when you take it out. But the pain and the lisp will slowly go away over time. So don’t worry, you will be thankful in the end

@@avneetsanghera390 No worries Avneet. I can't give you specific advice that would have to come from your Orthodontist but my advice is usually keep wearing them for my patients. Stopping and starting makes it harder (not impossible) to get things moving. Think of it like pulling off a plaster if that makes sense! Do it once and do it right! Hope that helps! (Remember though, your Orthodontist's advice trumps mine!)

Got them in and I've got a few questions 1. It's feels like 1 side of my mouth is being pulled more and I feels around the left side of both and the bottom one has less than the bottom right one but the top left has more than the top right is that normal? 2. What food are safe to eat with them in?

Thanks for the questions. Sometimes orthodontists choose to do an "asymmetrical advancement" if you have a jaw asymmetry at the start which can feel like more pull on one side definitely something you should check with your Orthodontist. I genuinely cannot and don’t even understand how you can eat with them in, if I just take them out to eat during the day and put them straight back in will I be ok? Like will it delay anything? I wear them properly and try to always have the blocks in contact but I just don’t understand how to eat with them in as much as I want to to get this over with as quickly as possible
@bracebook1965
@bracebook1965 3 года назад
Hi Grace, it takes some serious practice but it is possible! Advice depends on the Orthodontist but I always recommend wearing them to eat as the muscles really pull against the jaw during that process and activate the appliance. Many of my patients get to a point where they (temporarily) cannot eat without them! I find that those who finish twin-blocks the fastest are those that wear them to eat, but I agree it is not easy to start. Good luck!

@@bracebook1965 thank you so much 😊 would you have any tips for trying to eat with them in? Do I use the blocks to chew or my actual teeth that’s one thing that confuses me and am I able to bite into things? @bracebook1965
@bracebook1965 3 года назад
@@gracecarroll1765 Definitely worth checking with your orthodontist but in general the lower block should be in front of the upper block (they should not be on top of each other) as they are designed to hold your jaw forward. When people eat in twinblocks, they use the blocks to chew but check with your orthodontist whether they want you doing that.

@bracebook1965
@bracebook1965 3 года назад
Thanks for the enquiry! Each case is specific but a reasonable expectation would be 1 month per millimetre of Overjet reduction (I.e. if your teeth stick out by 7mm then 7 months). Patients often call this "Overbite". Anything less than perfect wear can easily double that time though!

Generally if worn full-time then things start to settle after a few days to a week. If you keep taking breaks then the ache never really stops though (and the correction never begins!). My twin block makes me feel like gagging. What do I do?
@bracebook1965
@bracebook1965 3 года назад
Thanks for the enquiry! Definitely worth chatting to your Specialist Orthodontist - sometimes they can be modified so that they cover less of the palate which can make some people feel like they want to gag. Hope this helps!

Do they give you a underbite during the process?
@bracebook1965
@bracebook1965 3 года назад
That can sometimes happen. We call that overcorrection and it is sometimes done to compensate for any "bounce back" after they are removed. This needs to be closely monitored however.

Hi! I got them yesterday and ive been getting very painful front bottom teeth. I had to take them out as soon as i wokr up. Is it normal for them to feel this uncomfortable. Is there anything i can do to ease the pain? I havent been able to wear it full time after getting them, ive only been wearing them for an hour or two at a time.

Hi Lily, discomfort is very normal at the start and it certainly takes some perseverance for the first few days. Worth double checking with your Orthodontist for some advice on how to minimise the pain.

Hey Dr. Would it be possible to get this if you're 19?
@bracebook1965
@bracebook1965 3 года назад
Thanks for the enquiry Miguel! Although it's possible, Twinblocks are generally reserved for children in the peak growth phase of 11-15. There are other appliances that can be used for the same correction however, worth asking a Specialist Orthodontist!

@@bracebook1965 Hey, thanks for answering. It turns out that the twin block is not exactly what I was looking for. I was looking for a palate expander to reverse my deepbite. Do you have any suggestions(and I know it's not common at my age)?

@@bracebook1965 I'll try more or less to explain my situation dr. I have what you could call Class 2 Division 2 Malocclusion, and also both my upper and lower palates are quite narrow, which is I think the fundamental issue. I cannot rest my tongue correctly at the top and have some issues in my breathing because of the constriction. I wanted to expand the palates, and only then use braces if the malocclusion is still there, and I wanted to know if it's possible at my age.
