I bought several (like 10) used original babilat aeropro 2005 (rafa's racquet) several years ago because i loved it so much. They still sell for $150 used. I even bought a brand new one (with the plastic intact) that i'm saving as a collectos item. New like this are $1000+ if you can find one. Some racquets have that collector aspect.
Brought a used prostaff v10 97LS racket for under 150 several years ago and with the strings cost me just above 170. It was a steal and have been using it ever since.
I know on my tennis shoes, I wear out the right shoe more quickly, so I would buy a new or used right of the same shoe. A left handed person might wear out the left side quicker.
Mingling back to playing tennis after about 20 years. I’m from London and found your channel whilst researching for information on raquete, strings etc.. Love your content….
I bought a pretty used Head MicroGel Radical MP for $30 from a coach that had it laying around. Put some Luxilon ALU Big Banger strings and all good now. Strings were $20 and the restringing was $15. Pretty good deal i think.
@@donpham8901 its a great racket. I wish i knew what a higher end racket plays like to see if its worth the upgrade. I feel like the strings may have more of an impact on my play.
@@ES-gc8bb Generally lighter and more dampened. I got to play test the 2021 radical and compared it to my liquid metal. I could play longer on the 2021 but ripping the ball was not as satisfying. Lol!
@@donpham8901 does a heavier racket help put some thrust on the balls? I notice I can hit the balls to a decent speed with a full stroke but the balls aren’t launching like the pros haha.
Big names and standard Grip (3) sells good. The rest has really low resell value. In Sweden, almost impossible to resell à vcore 98 2021 with new strings for more than 90 euros
Best advice is Goodwill, Craigslist, Facebook Marketplace or find a friend or relative who is a racquetaholic. On selling one shoe: some people have different size feet and they buy two pairs of different sizes.
I have bought and resold racquets from mercari and poshmark before. Sometimes people are just trying to get rid of their old items or their children's high school gear, and they price it low. I just bought 2 decent babolat 2007 AeroProDrive for $75 shipped together and great shape and resold it for $150 as a pair.
i have been buying and selling racquets on ebay since 2014. Prices over the last year have skyrocketed. Average prices have gone up anywhere from $50 to $80 or more per racquet for used racquets. There are still bargains to be found, but they are definitely fewer and father between.
Shoes - there are people with different sized feet. Often times they'd have to buy two pairs of shoes, and then they have an odd pair left over. There's actually an organization that pairs up people with the same sized opposite feet (or maybe networks of three or more people who end up making up a group with the right sizes of feet). They also list single shoes or mismatched pairs for sale by individuals. This began pre-Internet, by the way, arrangements would be made via actual paper mail.. and I think it's still in operation.
Older Rads and Prestiges, PT630's/280's, older Prostaffs, POG's all hold high values (classic collectable bats) The 2nd hand market is thriving (in the UK anyway) as new bats are so expensive. For example you could buy a previous gen PD or Aero for half the price of the latest gen. Old Wilson Hammers as shown in this video are not sought after so not really worth anything.
Generally rackets that are still sold new now, the used version would go for 2/3 of the new price. Everything else 50% or less. Older rackets between 20 and 50 bucks depending on what it is. Of course there are exceptions that are collectibles and are worth more
I've never string racquets myself before, let say you pick up a racquet that you want from 20 years ago.. would those grommets still be available to buy for repair, are they more or less sorta universal? thanks
They are not universal. However you could buy single grommets replacements and install one by one. You could probably find the whole set online but it could be hard to if the frame is that old.
Logically, any used racket should go for less than $80-$90 because that's the lowest price a racket that's going to be discontinued (in new condition) will go for at retailers. I recently lost out on 2 Head LM Prestige Mid and they went for $110 total.
the head radical limited edition and wilson ultra pro labs is the only reason i broke my streak of only using used racquets for almost 15 years. imo usually not worth it to buy new
Probably a prime example of a racket which has pretty much kept its retail price. I've seen pristine ones being sold for about £200 on eBay, such is their popularity/demand. Ezone DR 98+ regular go for more, probably more than what they were sold for new!
Resoundingly NO unless you got money to blow and you want the latest model. I don’t see anything different with new sticks vs ones made in last 20 years. I have a 32 year old 85 St Vincent Pro Staff that is in newish condition (haven’t played with it too much) that is quite playable.
I remember that wilson racket with the rollers. One would come in at the sport authority for me to string every so often in the late 90ies. Love your videos Harry. Check me out at Big boy tennis. I hit left and right forehands.
Never seen anything about it. But I’ve heard and seen that it most likely is…wonder why they don’t say so? Not like BG is an unknown in the tennis world!
A used racquet has zero worth, purely because you don't know how the racquet was treated by the former owner(s), period. No matter how good it looks, you have no way of knowing. The previous owner(s) may have had protection tape on the racquet and beat the crap out of it. Then remove the tape and sell the racquet as "mint condition". I'd avoid them.
