My 66 year old husband was diagnosed with this. He joined me in my vegan diet. 6 months later his heme iron was was better than normal. His skeptical doctor who dismissed the vegan diet would not even come into the room to give us his results. He sent his nurse practitioner in. We switched doctors.

I am a fan of clean vegan unprocessed diets-I tend to use more keto vegan due to my neurology practice with seizure or isolated epileptiform discharges. Are you more raw or cooked vegan? I personally have lectin problems and tend to be clean carnivore, but I support all clean diets like smart vegan and like Robert Lustig MD does on YT. Thank you for telling your story!

I don't know if my body is an exception, but I have haemacromatosis and it only got worse with a vegan diet. So bad that I had to do bloodletting for over a year to get back to normal levels. Now I'm back on a vegetarian diet with a lot more dairy products and my haemachromatosis no longer needs to be treated. Vegetarian is very good for me. Vegan is absolutely not.

Back in the summer of 2018, at 57 years of age, I was 321lbs, had night sweats and leg cramps every night. I knew something was wrong. I went to Doctors and found out I have Hemochromatosis - a genetic blood disease that stores excess iron in your organs. My Ferritin was 4580. Normal Ferritin levels are 0-50. I had a liver biopsy and I had a severe fatty liver along with iron being stored in my liver, and damaging it. I’m a non-drinker and non-smoker, so I found it strange that my liver was in such bad shape. I was then placed on weekly phlebotomy treatments in which they take out a pint per week. Within 2 years I was down to 170lbs. Five years later my ferritin is under 50, but my liver has been damaged. I keep trying to tell my sister to get tested, but she doesn’t understand the seriousness of this disease. My whole matriarchal side of my family did not live past 64 years of age.

So im 24 found out I had it last year ferritin was at 500, I’ve gotten it down to 200ish, I’ve done a lot of research on this and most people see symptoms as they are older, i feel like I started feeling the symptoms after I turned 21 I dismissed everything cause I thought I was just being lazy, my doctor told me since I enjoy a nice steak and cooking, eat whatever you want, just adjust the amount I donate blood throughout the year, but my whole life I get a sinus infection probably 2 times a year depends on weather it always happens from hot to cold so that makes sense about the infections, thank you for the video very educational !

I think my brother probably died of Haemochromatosis a couple of months ago. I thought it was alcoholism or maybe long Covid, but recently I was reminded my father was very worried about him 20 years ago. I think my brother brought back a medical report from work that pointed out the problem. My brother had a weird phobia of doctors and refused to seek medical help when he was obviously I'll. He had a weird skin condition with red spots all over his body. He was tired all the time. In his last six weeks he turned yellow. He looked like a scarecrow. He did not lose his hair or turn copper. He did not complain of joint paint or sexual dysfunction, but he wouldn't do.

If it is deemed the most common inherited genetic disease, why is not a periodic serum ferritin test taken more regularly for people that complain of fatigue and constipation. My brother was recently diagnosed with hereditary hemochromatosis at levels over 600. I asked my doc to run a complete iron panel and she reluctantly ran this: iron binding capacity, UIBC, iron, iron saturation, Ferritin. I'm 54 (no uterus) and my FERRITIN was high, range of 15-150 per LABCORP and mine was 219. Also when it comes to lab ranges Quest shows for someone my age that normal is 16-232 so if that's the case and I'm at 219 am I really in range afterall or do I have to go by LABCORP ranges since that’s who did the test? My Doc said nothing to be worried about and that's that. Do I need to push for more tests? What is the exact genetic test that I need to ask for? She doesn't seem to know about it at all and I don't know if I should see a specialist or not? I also have Hashimoto's, active EBV, MTHFR c677T and feel like I struggle every single day with inflammation, fatigue, brain issues, weight gain, joint pain, etc. My a1c rose to 5.9 but I brought it down to 5.7 over a period of a year. I made her prescribe me a continuous glucose monitor which is super helpful but still trying to figure out why my glucose seems to run high (130) during the day and sometimes super low (55) at night. Especially when I don't eat carbs or processed foods & I try to intermittent fast most days. But I do like my wine with dinner which I'm trying to stop. I know that's a lot but I'm a bit of a mess. I wish I could find one doc or one naturopath that was really good at figuring this out without throwing meds and or 20 supplements at me. When I try to be my own advocate I get that glare. take care!

My ferritin was 290 in Jan 23. End April ultrasound showed fatty liver (surface smooth) and pancreas. Went on very strict keto May 4th and lost 15 Ibs and had a CT scan of abdomen due to left rib pain, probably due to working on flooring for two weeks, and everything was fine. Never felt better and a blood test a week ago showed ferritin at 490. Could the fatty liver have generated this and ferritin remained? CT scan made no mention of fatty liver or pancreas other than saying no issues.

My mom’s ferritin is 616 but she is borderline anemic. Why? And would bloodletting make her anemia worse?
@TheHumanCondition
@TheHumanCondition 2 года назад
I cannot diagnose here for several reasons so lets discuss potentials; One should consider that ferritin may also take a role as an acute phase reactant and not just an iron marker. this can be confusing. This can mean that sometimes these APR markers elevate when inflammation is present or other acute metabolic stress. A complete iron and red cell blood panel should tell the tale, and if in fact there is an anemia (there are several types of anemia), then bloodletting could be a problem. To be sure that hemochromatosis is not present, one's liver may need a special MRI to detect iron overload. In a rare case, one could have a liver full of iron long term, and then lose acutely some red blood cells. making one appear anemic. That is rather like a Dr. House episode. there is also the complexity of anemia of chronic disease, which is too much to explain here. Check with a hematologist if you have questions and let us know what happens.

I usually start with fractional or microdoses of IP6-less than a single capsule and work upwards to the label recommendations. Also consider turmeric and zinc and calcium all reduce iron binding. Here is a nice review: www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC8110241/ I have also theorized that lactoferrin, a substance found in colostrum or first milk, may help in hemochromatosis here is another paper; www.tandfonline.com/doi/pdf/10.1080/10245332.1997.11746364?needAccess=true Let us know what you discover!

Labs set normal ranges regionally, so doctors usually use the lab range of normal for each test in their area of the country. We are slowly accepting a sicker population so this trend will become a problem. 60 to 300 is the typical US range, I have seen lactoferrin supplements also help lower high ferritin.

All my iron parameters are way overrange high. Ferritin it's been like that for 10 years, the other ones are new. I have a chronic prostatitis (suffering) since 14 months. Weight loss, insomnia, anxiety, and many other symptoms. We found mycotoxins in my urine, thought was the root cause of everything but after home remediation and binders for 7 months, it does not change much. I now find the iron issue. Could my prostate condition be related to the iron overload? They find no evidence of infection at all, but this stupid system cannot test for fungals. I did had a systemic candida problem, I have been on anti-fungals since a year.
@TheHumanCondition
@TheHumanCondition Год назад
Wow the system is failing chronic patients. I use Great Plains lab for urine mold testing, and it is published in literature that inflammation is worsened by excess iron, and excess iron worsens inflammation, cancers and infections. Metallothionien III is important to induce in the body as it carries minerals like iron and zinc and other minerals. Zinc lozenges can stimulate the MIII and this can help with iron overload and heavy metal clearance.
