We are neither European nor American minded. Like all victims of the undermining and vicious lies told by the oppressors, we were led to believe that the streets of Europe and American are paved with go,d and we should neglect our traditions and forsake our countrymen and strive to be like them and if possible, migrate to live among them as they were more civilised. Knowledge is power and once it is attained by more people throughout the diaspora, these myths, legends and lies will continue to die out and more of us will learn to love and appreciate who we are and how much strength, tenacity and bravery it took for our ancestors to survive, in order for us to sit here on the internet in 2023 and learn from each other

You are speaking appalling ignorance on this post. As a Barbadian child, when my father gave me first globe 🌎 I looked for Barbados 🇧🇧 location and THEN AFRICA 🌍! I am from Barbados and went to West Africa to pay homage in Ghana 🇬🇭 to my ancestors who were enslaved. I saw Barbados 🇧🇧 national hero Bussa was highlighted in Ghana at the slave castle as he was an African man who led a slave rebellion on the island of Barbados. There is a powerful monument dedicated to Bussa. Of course we know we are African 🌍

That’s not true. Most people from Bim came from Nigeria, specifically Igbo. Bussa the only rebel from Bim was Igbo. Bim, along with Jamaica and Haiti, has many Igbo names and expressions in their patois. In fact Bim has by far the most Igbo expressions in the Caribbean.

Both Ghana and Nigeria played roles in the transatlantic slave trade, contributing to the varied African heritage present in Barbados. The influence of African cultures on Barbados is diverse, and it's challenging to attribute it solely to Ghana 🇬🇭 or Nigeria 🇳🇬. We acknowledge and recognized the Ghanaian influence, particularly from the Akan people, the Igbo from Nigeria have also made significant contributions to Barbadian culture no doubt we can agree it’s great to see the transformational shift of the Bajans people embracing and loving Africa. 🔥🔥🔥❤️🔥🔥🔥 Rise !

I am going weigh in on this topic. Under the british empire and its 13 north american colonies barbados was the epicentre of slavery . Barbados was the administrative the wing of the british goverment for the western hemisphere,The island was know as litte england . Remember jamaica was spanish just like cuba, puerto rico etc.Slave societies in the anglosphere world started in barbados in 1661 then it spread to the rest of the islands and to north america of course it took many forms ie jim crow however the basis or concept came out of barbados. If you were on an english vessel there was a 99 percent chance that you would end up in barbados. Now I had several X and Y chromosone test. My paternal grandmother is fulani from guinea bissau, my maternal line is from what we now call sierra leone, liberia and guinea, my paternal grandfather is from portugal and maternal grandfather is nigeria/benin. I am actually a citizen of sierra leone, the chief took me into the forest, sacrifice a goat and rename me, this is another story. Barbados went through a lot of changes, the people of north carolina, upper guinea (sierra leone, liberia, guinea, gambia) and barbados are link at the hip . North carolina was known as a colony of barbados. The people of upper guinea are skilled in rice growning, so those people got shifted directly to the southern USA, reasearch the history of carolina gold rice. Barbados is a sugar producing island so the importation of slaves shifted to ghana, benin nigeria in the latter days. Barbados was Great britian richest colony at one time, there was a saying back in the day "as rich as a barbadoes planter" , when liberia was formed, the president reach out to the people of Barbados and asked the to come and build liberia, the reason being that no one could understand how a little island like barbados could generate so much wealth for great britian, again that is another story. I was was in the ivory coast 3 weeks ago with my KRU family as my lineage is there as well, really good time.

Barbados used to called “little England” by the colonisers. Many older generation Bajans were brainwashed into believing everything English was good and all things African was bad. Many Caribbean islanders would say bajans acted superior to them due to the fact that “master” England favoured them more. It’s good to see the tide is turning with many bajans embracing Africa and their Africaness 💪🏾🇧🇧

One observation which is not totally irrelevant: East Africans seem to be friendlier than West Africans. Although tribal distinctions are made in places like Kenya (Luo, Kikuyu, Masai) it is not as all encompassing as it is in West Africa. Another observation is that we in the West think of mother Africa as a vast geographical area, with many co-operating states and regions. Most Africans think of themselves as mainly tribal with little interest in unification. Long live a confederated East, West, Central and Southern .Africa. Long live the people of the Sahel now seeking to be free. May their brothers in ECOWAS support them and not follow other leads.

@@oceejekwam6829 meeting one or two people from a country does not speak to how everyone in the country think. That's the problem we have as a society. Wrongly judging a whole country because a few people did this or that. Those are individual behaviors and thoughts not how everyone from that country think or behave.

Typical, sounds like someone from the UK, exposed to only a handful but assumes everyone is the same. Great, you see the difference now

I'm surprised a lot of Bajans don't know their roots are Igbo Nigerian. Most Bajans, statistically over 80% have Igbo roots and Igbo is the most dominant tribe in Afro Bajans. Some of their lingua is also Igbo for example Bim which originated from the Igbo word Bem, meaning my house/home. Jamaicans too have Igbo roots but not as much as Bajans. Yorubas are more in Cuba and Brazil. Igbos and Yorubas have the highest number of slaves taken from anywhere in Africa.

Where did you get that from. Africans from all over went to Barbados. Many Alan were brought there. Why the need to drag tribe into everything?

I think Bajans more seem like Ghanaians, in terms of features and temperament. Least like Nigerians. When I meet Ghanaians it's like looking in a mirror. I don't get that primal feeling when I interact with Nigerians. By the way, I get warm feelings when I meet South Africans, Zimbabweans and Ethiopians. Don't know why.

My mother is from Barbados and you are right most Afro Bajans ancestors where from the Igbo in Nigerian and it is documented fact. My father is from Trinidad and most Afro-Trinidadians ancestors where from Yoruba tribe in Nigeria and Yoruba religion Orisha is widely practice and and is big in Trinidad and was brought to Trinidad by the Yorubas during the slave trade and lost contact with the Nigerian Yoruba Orishas for over 400 years until recently about 50 years ago. Googe Trinidad Orisha

Don't listen to him. As a Barbadian child at age 7, when my father gave me my first globe 🌎 I looked for Barbados 🇧🇧 location and THEN AFRICA 🌍!
