Thanks for posting this - directed by my father Bill Bain, never seen it until now. I know he had a lot of grief making it as he was hospitalized with acute appendicitis during post-production and a lot of the editing was done without him.

Sam> Hey, sorry about your dad. Wow, he must have been trying to make a statement about what declining moral values & the instillation of compassion into our children was producing> uh, less than humane body-suits portraying themselves as if human yet devoid of humanity characteristics. Must have hurt him that he couldn't finalize the editing himself. Peace & love & blessings & wisdom I pray to you.

Declining moral values? I suspect there have always been sociopathic relatives eager to kill for an inheritance. Granddma could smell it on the girl, couldn't see it in her grandson.

Sorry about you Dad Sam,i bookmarked this film a few years ago & never watched until 2day (October 21,2018) wow sooo many years after it was filmed. I was in the 10th grade in 1971 & thouse were years that i like to remember The Music The Movies The Clothes,Etc. You yourself never seen it until years later so that is proof that your Dads legacy (his work on this film) is still being seen and enjoyed 4 decades later. God bless,DEAN MARTELL (Pgh,PA.)

Thanks for uploading this!!! I remember reading the review in the 70's in Cinefantastique magazine, but never got to see the film and it never even got released on VHS. Good little thriller. And of course, Paul Nicholas ended up playing the abusive Cousin Kevin in the film version of "Tommy" a few years later.

Hi Dennie. It's very different from their usual close harmony soft rock style, but this is by a group called 'Whistler', who released one album in the UK in 1970. You can hear a couple of tracks from their album here: /watch?v=sOJwF3fk5gY

Thank you, so obvious I thought. Lol, I searched for this comment, I knew I wasn't the only one who thought that. Poor Gran didn't say anything about marrying the girl under _any_ name, just her current one. Perhaps we were supposed to assume this was the case tho, because those corrupt ass hellions would've jumped on that solution right away I would think.

There are lots of us! I like breaking up viewing of the all pre-masticated shiny pap on Netflix, Apple TV etc with some occasional more challenging material from the past. The movies don't have to be masterpieces, very often they are not, but they still can have a power of their own, or a few good scenes, or an interesting setting. They are palate cleansing somehow, and you can always go back to join the captive millions streaming the latest "hit show" when you want to.

Although no supernatural horror in this Film, it kept in line with Amicus's Vengence from beyond the grave theme. Darkly moralistic amidst a realistic setting, throughout, Tears for the Grandmother, but in spite of the couple coming across as cruel and heartless, it was plain to see that the root of their Evil came from their love of material wealth, thus , I pitied, rather than hated them . Was sad to read that it was Vanessa's last film and that she passed away 3 years ago, Truly a talented and versatile Actress.

It may only be a film but its subject matter is disturbing and still rings true to this day with people preying on the elderly and vulnerable with complete disregard for human dignity. Makes my blood boil. 😞

When Vanessa goes into the house and says to Paul 'how much is this worth?', he says £8.-10,000. My curiosity looked it up in 2017 and a five bedroomed house in this street is on sale for £2,500,000. Forty five years and look at the price hike. Same location not much difference in the house, so WHO says it is worth two million? Joke.

A real treat to see this rarely shown psychological horror thankfully shown in its original 4:3 aspect. It was satisfying to see their evil scheme did not go to plan! Obvious display at 1:14:16 of the ridiculous instructions actors are made to follow, evident in many movies - ‘always turn your head to face the camera no matter how unnatural it looks’.

Perhaps the greatest geriatrixploitation movie ever. Perhaps the only film in that genre??? Many good things. 1. Mona Washbourne's performance 2. Great art direction, especially in conveying the oppressive nature of that gloomy house 3. Anticipates Beverley from Abigail's Party, Bret Easton Ellis, much else; amoral monsters created by consumerism 4. Fun fantasy sequences, especially the vapid dreams of fast cars (him) and lounging around in a big bed (her) all shot using all the cliches of advertising filming at the time (crash zooms, filters on the lens etc). And it makes you think too. Johnnie gets his values from somewhere and twinkly old gran, dear that she is, is arguably fairly materialistic, and controlling, in her own way too (with her pride in her "Walnut Furniture" that you have to live up too)

I don't like to discount young people's fears of nuclear war and/or ecological destruction but this film does demonstrate the flaws in believing life is a zero sum game. We see that here in the U.S. - it's why the 1% are so fearful of anyone other than the wealthy having anything. There's more than enough for everyone is the world, despite what some political ideologies would have everyone believe. Now, after dispensing that serious commentary, I would like to say that the acting in this film is phenomenal. Johnny and Jill are despicable but gorgeous to look at. Poor Granny! Digging the music as well.

Paul Nicholas actually walks like he danced in his song Grandmas Party

Possibly not too wise of Nicholas to make a film like this so soon after his appearance on Blind Terror (he says he was called "Boots" on set by fellow cast etc.,) but maybe most roles on offer in the early 1970's were for not so nice characters? Have heard some stories that acting roles at this time were very often of this genre and Nicholas has been quoted as stating they were important experience wise at the time.

Hi tjarskoye I think you may have had more of these UK films on TV in Chile in those days than we had on our TVs in England!

Why, thank you Kenji - you are very kind! I will shortly be pitching the idea of releasing both this and the Hayley Mills film 'Deadly Strangers' around the DVD distributors now we've got a fair few views. To make up for their neglect both films deserve a blu-ray release at the very least. We live in hope!

You know, I've always been puzzled by the tiny kitchens of the British & wondered how they could have possibly been good cooks or even very healthy having to store & prepare meals in such tiny accomodations. In USA the smaller kitchen space, very litle counter top space, lil shallow sinks even & small, inadequate cabinets did begin to occur & we hate it!

I hate small kitchens too, but space is not usually an option. Flats in cities have limited space. If you see some films with county houses, they have big kitchens with loads of cupboards and worktops. Have you seen 'Midsomer Murders?' It is set in rural England and features villages with cottages and rivers. They have large kitchens. The stories are silly but it is nice scenery.

I've started to entertain the idea that the opening heavy rock theme to 'Jack and Jill' is not by the obscure group 'Whistler' at all, as they sound nothing like this. The vocalist here sounds a dead ringer for John DuCann, so I'm wondering if this may actually be an uncredited Atomic Rooster performance. The rest of the playing is very much in their style at this time (check out the 'Death Walks Behind You' album) and it wouldn't be the first time a group has performed uncredited due to contractual difficulties. Hmm, I'd love to know the truth of what's happening here...
