We all want to be appreciated...but initial attraction isn't really based in reality. There's a really huge audience of very young women on RU-vid, and I'm really worried about them basing their self-worth on whether they appeal to guys. That seems to be how the world is set up. I'm a dude, of course, so I'm basing this on what I've seen on RU-vid and IRL, but I don't think I'm crazy.
I should have said in the video...this isn't meant to be relationship advice. There are lots of good people out there with whom to have relationships, but what they're "looking for" doesn't necessarily correspond with what they actually want or need. That "love at first sight" moment is pretty much the least interesting moment of a relationship (despite being one of the most exciting.)
The song at the end is Marilyn Hanson, which will be on my new album which is coming out...oh...less than a month from now? Exciting!
And TFiOS preparedness kits are available now at DFTBA.com! dftba.com/produ...

"How do boys look so hot without makeup?" Because society hasn't told them they needed it yet...
@MysteriousAsteria

"yet" is actually quite incorrect. European and American men in the 17th to 18th century wore it, because then it was quite en vogue. After the French Revolution, where male make up was equated with the bourgeoisie, not so much any longer. And since then it has completely fallen out of fashion, save for the 1960s, when Glam became big and popular.

I'd rather nobody wore makeup than that everybody wore makeup
@MysteriousAsteria
@MysteriousAsteria 8 лет назад
That's your opinion. I respect it, because different people have different concepts of what they find beautiful. But to me everyone can do whatever they please. Men and women should be able to wear make up, if they want to and not get pissed on by others. I may be biased, because I love make up, to me it's more like art (well, I like to draw, maybe that has do to with it).
@andrewmowere6106

@MysteriousAsteria Ah, but I think you miss the point of your own comment. Men and women should be able to wear make up without being pissed on. Men and women should be able to NOT wear makeup without being pissed on. People drown both in urine because they seem to think beauty IS enhanced by makeup but that it is WRONG to cheat in that manner. The exception to this rule seems to be people who don't see the difference (such as yours truly) and instances where the makeup is not used to enhance at all, but rather to differentiate with very clear and sometimes wacky styles.

I've been told (multiple times) the following statement: "You're so pretty, why don't you wear make-up?" Does anyone else find this statement dumb and an oxymoron? It's really annoying that other girls put this pressure on me (not men - GIRLS) to spend a ridiculous amount of time dolling myself up, because there's always the implicit "your way is wrong" attacking my self-esteem.
@BazookaTooth707
@BazookaTooth707 9 лет назад
I've gotten into heated arguments with women over how useless make-up really is and that it doesn't truly comprise of their real beauty. Modesty died along with fashion which is the opposite of what we think modesty has become. I for one never minded such but just felt enticed to let these women know that real respect and love will come with time and never with the confrontation. I respect the use of it but just feel a lot women feel it's a necessity to their wholeness. Even though, I can't respect that, I can still respect them and anyone beyond their appearance.

***** It does sound oxymoronic. Plus I'm an almost 20 year old female who doesn't wear make-up except for a few occasions (Cheering at basketball games, cheerleading events, formal events, concerts, and watching figure skating competitions). I think I look good without make-up and if a dude doesn't like me because of that, well it's their problem and not mine.
@sourcream6607

***** I'll occasionally have crazy breakouts and I never put on makeup unless for a special occasion. Too much work. Feels gross imo. Shaving isn't any better. It makes my legs have a bunch of ingrown hairs and it fucks up my armpits. Not worth it for me personally
@PinkCircleO8
@PinkCircleO8 9 лет назад
Sour Cream Special occasions and cheerleading events/basketball games I cheer at are the only I give for make-up. Plus if you're rushing to get out the door, why be late because of make-up? Exactly. I shave my armpits every few weeks. And my legs less often than that.

My earliest experience of being judged on my looks, was at about 6 or 7 years old when I asked my mother if I could cut my hair short and she said I could but I wasn't to come crying to her if boys didn't like me. I think what parents say to children at a young age is so important as it can affect them for the rest of their lives. The amount of times as a very young child 3 maybe 4 years old I heard my mother say something along the lines of " my thighs are soooo huge, my stomach is so big or my waist isn't small enough" affect me so much that at 9 years old I developed an eating disorder, to conform to my mothers idea of beauty or the perfect body. If there are any parents reading this, please, I beg of you to not say these things in ground of your children, it can affect them for the rest of their lives.
@marielled4250
@marielled4250 9 лет назад
That's a lot to go through at nine. I can imagine eating disorders are a lot to got through at any age. I remember a time when I was like 12 and I noticed that I was way taller then my other female friends. The all wanted to be 5 foot 8 inches like I am but I wanted to be 5 foot 3 inches like them. I feel that woman and girls always compare themselves to standards of beauty that are unrealistic. And when these standards aren't achieved we think bad of are selves. And that is so sad that most girls by the age of ten already have body insecurities.
@EdithEsquivel
@EdithEsquivel 9 лет назад
Megan Sykes Maybe she meant well, and maybe you would have been judged, but parents should use those cases as a teaching method... how to be different and not give a f***. My father likes how women look with short hair, so he paid me to cut it. I was 10 or 12, I thought it was no big deal, but the kid I liked stopped talking to me, even the teachers treated me differently and sometimes I was mistaken for a boy. I am a profoundly weird person, and these reactions just confirmed how useful short hair was to detect morons. I kept my hair short for the most part of the next 20 years.

Ironic how a lot of the comments here are from men saying what they find beautiful in women. The point is, it doesn't matter what these men think. Even if it's in good spirit, it's still a standard women are meant to meet in order to provide appeal to men. Ignore these comments and do whatever you want.

I once told a friend that I was going on a date that evening. she immediately asked me "is he cute?" I thought about it, and responded, "not really, but he's not ugly" she was aghast at my frankness and asked me why I was going on a date with him if I didn't think he was cute. I don't like it people feel that I must decide about someone's looks before deciding about their personality and it mutual compatibility. I want to think my husband is very handsome, but I believe that once I have a husband, I will love how he looks because his face means all the things that I love about him. "and was Mr. Rochester then ugly in my eyes, reader? no, his was the face I most liked to see."

I especially love how he made the point that there is /nothing/ wrong with liking to wear makeup and caring about what clothes you wear and how your hair looks or whatever, but that it should always be on your own terms, for yourself, not for anybody else. I think that's something really important that gets left out of discussions about this, even the (albeit generic) positive, "everyone is beautiful for being themselves" ones (because those can sometimes seem to be saying that people /shouldn't/ wear makeup, and there's nothing wrong with wearing makeup if you genuinely like to).

When I think I'm attracted to a girl, I as myself a few questions: Is she intelligent? Is she unique in an interesting way? Is she responsible? Is she mature? Do we have compatible interests? It's important to point out that physical attraction is separate to "intellectual" attraction. You don't really decide which particular physical and aesthetic traits are attractive to you or not(culture, upbringing and genetics does), and it's most often independent from what you like in people(psychological traits, interests, etc). I might be physically attracted to a girl, without necessarily liking her for anything else than her looks. And it goes without saying that the best relationships are based on more than that.

As far sexual-aromantics go, the purpose of my comment was simply to voice my opinion on the topic Hank brought up in the video. My opinion's apparent popularity is in no way indicative of my desire for others to share my opinion or follow my example. People should do what works for them.

Mimei is right~ It's not normal at all to get your teeth unstraightened in Japan. It's just not common TO straighten them. Insurance doesn't cover braces and they're very expensive, and other facial features (eyes, nose, face size) take priority over teeth when it comes to analyzing beauty. It doesn't detract from the message of the video at all because they do have different standards of beauty, but Mimei is right that this is something that sort of evolved in the Western media to seem much bigger than it really is. A good example that Westerners might find strange would be "head/face size." East Asians in general have larger heads in proportion to their body than Westerners. The smaller your face in Japan, the better. -Rachel

Hank, before I say anything else, I want to say that I'm not stalking your old videos just to randomly comment on it...in fact, I this is the video I watch every night before I go to bed which is what I wanted to talk to you about. I'm going to be honest with you, I like every other teenage girl has at one point been sucked into the game of makeup and hair and expensive clothing in order to impress boys. I watched this video my freshman year of high school which was my lowest year... I valued my life on what others said about me and try to conform myself into someone else in order to please others. And I started watching this video because it seemed like you were simply informing about what other cultures do, when the video changed my life. (I know, the sappiest thing you've ever read, right?) well, it's true. I had never thought about what my life would be like if I stopped caring about others opinion of me was and instead cared on what I valued myself. I have grown out of the makeup and expensive clothes phase, but I still watch this video every night to remind myself of why. I just simply wanted to reach out and tell you, thanks. You may read this, you may not and that's fine. I'm simply a nerdfighter who is proud to say that your wisdom and humor has brought joy to my life. Congrats on meeting the president, exciting! When I was a teen, my Mom told me that men don't have to wear make up and women do, because women are inherently uglier than men. This was to drive home the point that it was very important for me (a girl) to wear make-up and nice clothes if I ever wanted to "catch a man." I told her that maybe men and women were the same and she just thought that cause that's what commercials were telling her to get her to buy things. She looked at me like I had two heads. Anyway...thanks for the fantastic video Hank!
@thruaGlassOnion
@thruaGlassOnion 10 лет назад
***** Hi types.... I just mean all the the ads that sell women products by telling them implicitly or explicitly that in order to be beautiful, they should by x, y, or z product. Obviously, women and men are both susceptible because that is the point of advertising in our heavily consumeristic culture - convince people that they are lacking in some way (not hard to do) and propose a product that may or may actually fulfill the perceived need. And yes, I'd agree with you that attractive people have it easier in life. I've even heard of studies that seem to prove that attractive people get lesser court sentences and more leniency from jurors.
@thruaGlassOnion
@thruaGlassOnion 10 лет назад
***** Absolutely advertising works! I'm with you 100% there. I also agree that consumerism is not the source of anyone's desire to look good - we desire that naturally. However, what I am saying is, that saying that women are naturally uglier than men and that is why they "have to" wear make up is false. A little bit of research about other cultures proves this to be false, because different cultures have different ideas of what makes one beautiful or attractive. This seems to be an important part of Hank's argument in the video above. I was specifically replying to his comments beginning in 2:13 about men, women, and make up, because it reminded me of the above referenced experience.

+Des and as a mixed person I've felt self guilt all my life for being sort of "praised" or put on a pedestal simply because of my lighter complexion and head of looser curls than my fully black sisters or other counter-parts. I've genuinely always hated how people treated me "better" or straight out told me that I have "good hair" or overall just implied that due to my bioligcal make-up that I had absolutely no control over, that I am (by their standards) more desirable. It's always hurt me to my core. I hate what racist standards of beauty have done to the minds and hearts of my beautiful black sisters (blood and non-blood). I damn near wanna slap somebody when they have the audacity to tell me that my hair is "good", like have you seen my hair donating to charity or something, you ignorant fuck? Because I'm pretty sure it hasn't, because it's just fucking HAIR! It literally can't be good or bad, it's HAIR!!! Ugh. It's just so messed up how brainwashed we have become. I personally think my fully melanated brothers and sisters in all of their natural glory are some of the most beautiful and majestic looking people on this planet. And you should all feel as such. There are a million online and magazine articles about how women can be more appealing to men- 'what guys look for in a girl', 'fashion trends men hate', 'dumb things women do to drive men away', 'beauty trends men hate', 'what men think about your shoes' (no shit, that one is real). Women's magazines are all about how to make men want you, love you, commit to you, stay with you, approve of you. Yet, rarely is the same focus made of men- there will be no articles telling you what clothes to stop wearing for our benefit, which personality traits to cultivate or conceal as it pleases us, how to get us to commit, our opinions on our shoes. When men's magazines mention relationships, it's in the form of articles on how to get women into bed, or what to say (what lies to tell) to avoid an argument, how shop for lingerie for your girlfriend, how to tell when it's time to dump someone, "Is she high maintanence?" quizzes. You won't be told what's wrong with you that's driving women away. Media assumes that women live for men, and men live for themselves.

This is so good! Thank you, Hank. After I started making videos about why I love having super short hair, I started showing up in search results for that topic which led me to start getting a lot of comments about how that is supposedly not attractive to men. Men in those comments started talking about how disgusted they are by women with short hair including their own mothers and daughters. Men in those comments had all manner of excuses from the bible about why God supposedly thinks women should not have short hair and also PS they think it's ugly in case I was wondering. And you know what? Those comments stopped bothering me when I stopped changing my physical appearance solely to please other people. AND IT FEELS AWESOME. And I love my hair like this. Things have been so much better for me since I started truly believing that my appearance exists to make me happy. What other people find attractive is far too random and unpredictable to base something important like your self worth on. YOU ARE SO RIGHT. Also, holy crap the new recording with the cool new band sounds GREAT, Hank!! I can't wait to hear the rest of them! Awesome job so far, based on what I've heard in that little clip.

My only thought on the topic is that it just looks weird. The standards of society have placed upon me the idea that men have short hair with or without beards and women have long hair without facial hair... or hair anywhere else for that matter... but that is just society. Personally, I would give it a chance and see you with long and short hair before I said either looked bad. It also depends on how short... I mean I have seen some pretty looking women with buzz cuts (in the armed services) and some women just don't look all that great with long hair. So each person is different and so shouldn't be put in some stereo-type.

@ShawnBird
@ShawnBird 10 лет назад
I don't think people are very accepting of others either. If the standard is boys not wearing makeup you can be sure that boys in makeup is going to get some criticism (in equal measure to girls without makeup). There are cultural standards and we are all judged by our adherence to them but within the culture there are subcultures that have their own set of standards. In the end you can't go through life without being judged or maligned on your appearance so you should just decide who it is you want to impress and dress accordingly.

I'm seeing a lot of comments from guys along the lines of 'I don't like it when girls wear lots of make up anyway' and 'I prefer a natural look' and 'Actually I think nerd girls are hot.' These statements might be well-intentioned but they don't help - they still imply that women should present themselves in certain ways to please *you*, not themselves. Get comfortable with the idea of girls determining their own self-worth and work from there.
@iamtheahlenius
@iamtheahlenius 10 лет назад
"Get comfortable with the idea of girls determining their own self-worth and work from there." First off the comments these guys are making do not even remotely imply the things you interpreted them to. I agree they're not helpful, but more so because it feels like they're pandering more than contributing to a conversation. Men are plenty comfortable with women having a better view of self-worth. (From the male perspective) Being attracted to particular things we come across is entirely different than suggesting all women should be the things we're attracted to. If I'm not attracted to a woman who is attracted to me, she might feel a pull to be things she knows I'm attracted to. The same thing goes for being rejected by a woman and sorting out the whys. We all feel these pulls and pushes. Media and advertising are really what's to blame. Magazines are being bought, Instagram pictures liked, shows watched, etc. Women really need to take responsibility for the image they've helped create and allowed to poison their self-esteem rather than just point their fingers at the gender that does far less buying and far less watching of the media that perpetuates a lot of this stuff.

Diana Peña where does the 700 part come from? with the numbers you gave (1,000 videos, average of 4 minutes each), there would only be 4,000 minutes of video if you're going to be more accurate with the total number of minutes, you should be more accurate with the number of videos or average length of a video so that they match up. by now, that's 1,177 videos. assuming there was two videos posted since you calculated (I don't want to check to see how many videos there were 5 days ago, and I know that at least one was posted since then), that would mean 1,175 videos as of when you posted. keeping your average video length, then there would be 4,700 minutes of video. don't calculate the exact amount while giving an estimated amount also, according to my calculations: 4,700 minutes = 78.3 hours or 78 1/3 = 3.26 days. 60 minutes in an hour, so 4,700/60 gives the number of hours, 24 hours in a day, so (4,700/60)/24 gives the number of days...
@Kahadi
@Kahadi 10 лет назад
Diana Peña yes, but that means the only number people have to go by for that is 1,000. as I've always learned, you go based off the number you give. if you say 1,000, even "over" 1,000 or ~1,000, you go based off the actual number given, 1,000. for example, if you put down Pi as only 3.14, then you calculate it as 3.14, not more specific like 3.14159265358979323846. if you're going to calculate the exact value, STATE the exact value, or calculate the estimate or approximation given.
@Kahadi
@Kahadi 10 лет назад
Diana Peña you were too lazy to type 1,175 on the comment, but not too lazy to calculate with 1,175? that makes no sense. and though you may stand by your comment, that doesn't mean you were correct. if you're going to give an approximation, your calculations should use the same approximation. and you were still wrong with calculating how many days it would take

It's not only that young women base herself worth on her appearance, its that our society is contorted to the point that that is the only thing that matters about her. I have been told that I am pretty, and I know that I am smart, BUT I HAVE NEVER BEEN TOLD BY A BOY THAT I AM SMART! The only thing that our society is interested in is apperance! This leads to it being the only depending point in dating. I would rather have a smart boyfriend then a hot, stupid boyfriend. I would rather be seen as smart than pretty.
@TheGreatRakatan
@TheGreatRakatan 9 лет назад
Smartness is not something that is easily determinable, while physical attractiveness is. The fact that this is the first, and pretty much only thing you can tell about a person, is why dating is mostly based off of that. Also, that is why dating apps and sites exist; to find people based more on interest than physical attractiveness.

It's not like you have to go through more to be smart, it's genetic and from your environment just like good looks are. Plus, even if you did work hard, having the predisposition or the pressure put on you to do so wasn't up to you; you got good genes/a good home. You could just as well have worked hard at putting makeup on every morning because of environmental factors like society and your genetic/environmental desire to be liked or well-thought of. Beauty is just more easily accessible from afar and triggers a quick hormonal response which people really can't control

Honestly, I'd say women are pressured into wearing makeup by other women FAR more than they are pressured men. It's about fashion, self-worth and peer pressure much more than about the opposite gender. I honestly believe if tomorrow, every girl stopped wearing makeup, most guys wouldn't care. I'm seeing this trend whereby women are indirectly insulted by good intentions. Like telling women 'you don't have to wear makeup to make guys like you' - well-intention, but it rests on the assumption that they're doing this in the first place, which I think many women would vehemently disagree with - they wear makeup or certain clothing or whatever else because THEY LIKE IT. I'm not accusing Hank of this, I pretty much agree entirely with what he said in the video, but it's something I've noticed generally. I dunno, does anyone agree with me?

It's been over a year now since I first saw this video, and I still come back and watch it every once in a while. This was the thing that really drilled into my head that I don't have to constantly be worrying about the way I look. Looks are somewhat important to me, because I feel like it's a way to sort of tell people a little about myself before they get to know me. But it's also just a small fraction of the person that I am and the person that I want to be. So it may not matter if I have a bit of pudge on my tummy, or that my top teeth have some gaps, or if sometimes I dress a little wacky, or if I decide to not wear any makeup that day (which I do a lot more often now), because people are still going to like me. And if they don't, those are the people that I know I probably wouldn't get along with anyways. So thanks, Hank, for helping me realize that. And I will probably continue to stop in here and watch this video every once in a while, just to remind myself.

I think that, in reply to the tumblr question, it's because culture has made it that to feel sexy, you must wear make up. I remember that on an askreddit thread, someone said that "You look better without makeup." can actually be an insult and not a compliment, because it can express that you are displeased with how the makeup, which spent time, looks. It's basically like saying that you do not like my standard of beauty which I have asserted myself into. Or it could be that men are more commonly seen without makeup than women.

That was perfect. Thank you, kind sir. Also, might I point out that in the animal kingdom it's often the other way around: males usually have to make themselves look extremely 'pretty' to attract females. :)

The song at the end got me super excited! Hank's voice has really improved, I don't know what it is but it sounds better. (And I promise this isn't a backhanded insult or anything, I love Hank's music, I just also think people are always striving to improve and we should celebrate when they do c:)

The thing is, WE tear each other apart too. If it was only boys, we (girls) could lift each other up, but women criticize other women all the time. And it makes no sense to me. There's more to it than the pressure of being acceptable by society, now it seems we have to compete with each other & I think its really sad. We shouldn't judge each other so harshly. And I think this happens because there's this glorious notion of being original and special and girls often put others down because of it. We find pride in things other girls do that we don't, instead accepting differences and moving along.

self respect is something that requires very little effort to put on and is extremely attractive. Seriously. Mentally and physically, people who are comfortable with who they are attract others who are the same way. It just doesn't seem like that in school because people go there to find out who they are.

Sometimes self respect does require a lot of effort. And sometimes the things that give us that self respect can get criticized which makes it even harder.
@ktcnuttymoo

HashSl1ng1ngSlasher Yeah, as someone who suffers from depression, self-respect is very difficult for me. I am, despite this, in a loving and enduring relationship. I do get what you're saying, there is something admirable and attractive about someone who doesn't "fake it" for the attention of the opposite gender, and I would say that I'm one of those people. But I'm not sure I'd call it self-respect. I think people can still be true to themselves without necessarily respecting or accepting themselves whole-heartedly.

FYI, it's not just the makeup. Sometimes girls try to change their appearance by enhancing their boobs, butt, reducing their weight, or making sure they aren't too muscular cause that's too 'manly', lightening or tanning their skin etc. There are just too many things that are dictated based on the preference of the male eye!!
@nomdplume1606
@nomdplume1606 10 лет назад
It's not really about the preference of men. It's more to compete with other women. Men really don't care about a woman's tan or how nice there nails look. Women compete with other women for men's attention, sometimes in a misguided idealized fashion.

Stephen Dearden and because the majority hate each other, let's not forget that (i'm joking of course, but it is actually true).
@julieschober2033
@julieschober2033 10 лет назад
Stephen Dearden But it actually is about the preference of men. When women "compete" with each other, it's due to what Hank talked about: women being trained to appeal to men. This occurs through fashion magazines, cat-calling, being shamed for wearing certain clothes, and a million other instances. Yes, sometimes women compete with each other to look the best, but the (conscious or unconscious) motivation originates with men's pleasure.
@RPGaddictC
@RPGaddictC 10 лет назад
I think that attractiveness changes with what is historically an effort to obtain at that time and in that place. For example, at one point pale skin in women was considered attractive because it meant they did not work in the fields; being fat was attractive hundreds of years ago because food was scarce and in contrast now where being overweight is seen as lazy being, physically fit (beyond the point of healthy) with muscles and stuff means hard work. I guess this could be left over from the survive and reproduce mindset of an species not developed to our level of intelligence which still makes us focus on certain body parts that were instrumental in bringing up healthy new members of the species.

Watched this for the first time today! Yeah, I was on a film shoot presenting (not big, so we did our own makeup). Myself and a male presenter were.... presenting. I was smothered in makeup whereas he was just himself - watching the footage back - it makes me so angry, because I had to do so much to look "normal" and appear beautiful! It's horrible the differences between male and female :(. Great video though, not what I expected but I love it! :D xxxxx

From my experience, girls don't wear makeup because they want to look good for men. We do it because we like the way it looks (ourselves). In fact, a lot of guys say they think a girl looks better without makeup, and we're like, whatever, I still like wearing it so I'm going to, regardless of your opinion.

@slottmachine
@slottmachine 10 лет назад
I totally agree with that outlook. While I don't want to make any generalizations about who looks better in what, I can tell you that I've certainly never been more or less attracted to someone based on their makeup unless it was sub-conscious or something. My girlfriend never wore make up when we met and she still doesn't, and I didn't even think about for a really long time. One day I realized, "Hey, you don't wear any makeup, like... ever. huh". I would feel bad if someone thought they needed to wear make up to make themselves more attractive because to a lot of people (me at least) it flies right under the radar.
@notASOCIALbeing

Han Silly Yep. Same. I think guys just generally don't understand what makeup really does. They think of it as flashy and like "paint" on the face, but they don't realize that it can accentuate with subtlety. For example a guy might say "Look at Kim Kardashian! Doesn't look like she puts on makeup," not realizing she had a makeup artist spend probably an hour trying to make it look that way. /endrant
@rawsammi
@rawsammi 10 лет назад
Han Silly Yeah, so it's a personal choice that we want to look less tired etc. It's not so we can please men, it's just because we don't want to look tired :p yay concealer! The only thing that is wrong with society is the standards of beauty for women are so high that people have a skewed perception of how perfect we are supposed to look. Also, if someone is used to you not having eye circles and then the next day you do bc u didn't wear makeup, they are going to notice a difference. And then if one girl who never wears makeup goes to school wearing it, people are all impressed. Anyways, we wear makeup to look prettier... but it's by our own choice.

Oh My... I stumbled through so many video essays about this exact topic not knowing 8 years ago Hank Green told it all in 3mins33seconds 😂 In my freshman year, I was washing my face in the restroom and a sophomore, whom I only know from class but hadn't really talked, suddenly talked to me and asked me if I wanted to put on some lipstick. She always wear perfect makeup (I never understand that because in my country it's hot and most of us travel by motorbikes, she rides her own, too), and when I kept saying no she's like "girls should wear a bit makeup so we can look better". I'm never against makeup, I wanted to learn it too but my skin is sensitive while I haven't got enough time and money to experience products and yada yada. But I use lip balm to keep my lips from drying and cracking, and for me that's okay because... I'm going to college doing a major I don't really like, I have more important thing to care about 😅 I was just washing my face to fresh myself up before class 😂 to me that is more important than wearing a makeup that makes me *perhaps* look better but feel uncomfortable. She gave up after all, but that's like the first time I felt uncomfortable about the beauty standard that some people take and try to impose on others, especially when I'm the type that doesn't like to be told what to do 🥹
