Just received my Anthem 70 after waiting 4 and a half months. I replaced my Yamaha 3030 which served me well but OMG what a difference. I had my Yamaha connected to a Monoprice 7x200 watts per channel using RCA outputs. Now my Anthem is connected to the Monoprice with XLR cables. Massive improvement in sound and with movies. The rest of my gear is Tekton Encores as my mains, 2 SVS 16 Ultra subs, 4 SVS Ultra surrounds and 1 B&W center speaker. DVD player Panasonic DP UB 9000. So far have had no issues with the Anthem. Easily updated to the current firmware with my network using a Ethernet cable. No bugs and easy setup. Room correction setup uneventful. Super happy with my choice.

I've owned an XMC-1, RMC-1L, and a Monoprice HTP-1. Each of the first two units were not without their generous share of issues. In contrast, the HTP-1 is a trouble-free piece of gear and has a DAC that's even more of an upgrade than even the AVM70's. The HTP-1 comes with an AKM4493 while the others I've mentioned are built on the AKM4490 chip -- including the AVM70. Although the (yet-to-be-released) AVM90 has a AKM4499 DAC, it's a $6,000 unit. Interestingly, I've not seen a comparison between the AVM70 and the HTP-1, but I'd wager that their respective sound quality approaches a near audiophile standard. If you get an opportunity, I'm sure you'd get a pretty substantial number of viewers (including me) for that comparison. To do that, you'd also have to include the buy-it-yourself UMIK--1 calibration microphone not included in the box of the HTP-1. Great unit, though.
I did not have the same experience with the HTP-1. I had NOTHING but trouble with it. It would frequently go into what is now known in HTP-1 circles as the "Boot Loop of Death". If my house lost power it would ALWAYS go into the BLoD. The only solution for that was to do a Factory Rescue which involved creating a specially-formatted MicroSD card that would allow the unit to connect to the Mothership and re-image itself. After you figured that out (which is no mean feat, especially for those who aren't computer savvy or those who have a Mac) it wasn't too big a deal to re-image it and get it back up and running. But it takes HOURS to do and when you're planning to sit down and watch a movie and your $4000 pre/pro won't boot it pretty much ruins your evening. Also, I had frequent dropouts of audio and video that I tracked down to the HTP-1. They would last between 10 and 20 seconds and were becoming more and more frequent. Add to that some really dodgy Bluetooth that seems like it was added as an afterthought and you have what I felt was a pretty disappointing piece of gear. None of the phones or tablets in my house were able to connect via Bluetooth. Not a huge problem considering I didn't use that system for music but, still...that should just work on a device this expensive. L Denny makes a good point that it does have an impressive DAC with the AKM4493. For those of you who use your pre/pro for audio that is a valid consideration. I have different gear that I use for music, though. My home theater pre/pro is for just that...home theater so I didn't really benefit from the impressive DAC. It is my understanding that the latest firmware update was intended to correct the Boot Loop of Death problem. I don't know because I returned my HTP-1 and ordered an Anthem AVM 70. My experience with the HTP-1 was that it seemed like a really great piece of gear on-paper. It has the features and the specs of one of the best home theater pre/pros out there. But it seemed to me that it wasn't ready to play with the big boys. Monoprice is known as company that sells low-cost cables, mounts, and other electronic do-dads. The Monolith series of products is a huge departure for them and I don't think it's up to snuff yet. If you have a HTP-1 and disagree, that's fine. I hope your unit is working well and is without problems. However, based on the MANY posts of AVS Forum it was clear that lots and lots of people were having these problems. Just my $0.02.

Yeah those prices are crazy ! I found some good prices From Tone Winner they use to make Emotiva ...I asked Kyle about them and waiting to see what he says about them Not sure about quality ...since I dont think they have been around for very long...but you cant beat their price An AT 300 pre pro and a 7 channel amp for $3000 ..if my memory serves me right Summit Hi Fi is where you can check it out The owner use to work for Emotiva and struck out on his own I have a couple of mono blocks from Emotiva since 2012 and still going strong and their quality is good Now Emotiva stuff is made in Tennessee ...so that is probably why their prices have gone up. Tone Winner is made in China. Anthem amps are made in Canada and their other stuff is made in Taiwan
I appreciate that you take the time to answer comments, very useful information especially for those looking to upgrade from AV receivers or to next-gen AV processors. I have a Marantz AV7702 MK1, love hate relationship, love the inputs/options and video processing, but the audio is sub-par at least for an AV Pre-processor. I have had a hard time moving on...any advice?... I am a 2-channel guy and prefer to put the upgrade funds into improving the 2-Channel system. Eye balling the Emotiva XMC-2 or the older XMC-1 at a discount.

What amp or avr would you recommend for B&W 702 s2, htm71 s2, 706 s and subowoofer? I have a Marantz sr7010 and I don't like it, it sound too bright to me.
I listened to your comment about separates being better, but I've looked at prices and just can't justify for me personally spending that much for a processor and amp, so I was looking at the Anthem MRX540. What are your thoughts on this compared to other AV receivers, and or is there a setup for around the same amount in a processor/amp combo that you might suggest? I really wanted Anthem because I saw another one of your videos explaining how much better it sounded than Marantz, and that the bass was more authoritative, which I like because I listen to mostly hip hop and Mexican music that emphasize bass notes...plus I like bass and I like it to hit hard! I'm running a 5.1 currently, and plan to expand to a 5.2.2 once I move out of my current location. I have a pair of SVS Ultra bookshelves, an SVS Ultra Center, and a SVS PB3000. My back surround speakers are cheap Klipsch quintet that were given to me a while back, but to be honest they sound okay for my space, but I plan to upgrade later down the road.
I think if you don't want to spend a lot of money but want the anthem sound, yes go for their receivers. They put a lot of their top stuff inside those
@Not Sure one thing I noticed about the Denon AVs (3600, 6500) they seem to have made all my unshielded speaker cables become obvious! Don't get me wrong... I love Denon AVs in fact now I changed all my speaker cables to shielded speaker cables I'm thinking of giving the Denon 6700 another go!
I was shocked how much better separates are. It was like I got new speakers and subwoofer. I got the anthem avm 70 with emotive gen 3 amp. Just better separation and surround speakers work better at lower volume.
I own the Anthem MRX720 model and I'd recommend their AVR's if you can not swing the money for separates. You could even be on the lookout for a used MRX520 and that would serve you well. If you don't have Atmos ceiling speakers, you could also look for the older MRX510 model.
Good video, the AVM70 is on my upgrade list the next time Anthem has a sale (in the past they did one yearly, but with supply chain issues, they may see no reason to discount anything for awhile). I own the MRX 720 AVR, and in addition to Anthem's ARC room correction software, I really like the fact you can create an input where I assign different audio input (digital coax or optical) and match it up with HDMI video input for my cable TV. So, if I choose this new input I can watch a sporting event and listen to music instead of the announcers. Also, thanks for the tip on the Canton Vento speakers. They are on my list for that future upgrade speaker options. Currently have Revel Concerta2 system (F36/F35) and assumed I'd go to the Revel Performa 3 line (F208's), but I've always liked Canton's from decades ago. I don't suppose you've heard Revel speakers, if so, curious how they compared to your Canton's.
What would you recommend for someone that is only interested in listening to music? I have a pair of Bowers n Wilkins 683 floor speaker n am looking to upgrade from a Marantz 6003 receiver? I’m not a movie fan so I’m not planning on using any surround music speakers.

@@Kpaceguy thank you for your reply. At present it's all crossed at 80 small for 5.1 setup. Actual Auddessy calibrated it full band. Fronts n Rear Large (towers) at 40, centre(small) 60. My confusion is, do I select PHYSICALLY from Denon avr4100 audyssey calibration to full band back from all 80hz small setting to play 2 Chnl music on Pure/Pure Direct or will it automatically disengage all calibration n play as full band on fronts and if large/small. I m not sure. Please advise also if subwoofer still can be used or not. On remote an Auto exists too
@@joevaz1220 you should be able to go the 2ch setting at the very bottom of the list and change the crossover and if you want to use your subs in that menu so that when you click pure direct it goes to those settings automatically
Have you heard of Tone Winner?? They have some good prices and use to make Emotiva in China ...now Emotiva made in Tennessee .Tone Winner makes amps and pre Pro AT 300 great prices here ....any ideas about them ? Was thinking about the processor ..but does not support 2.1 right now Found one Monoprice pre pro and it was $4000 U.S I think thats the same price as the Anthem isnt it? The cheapest one from Emotiva I found was $3000 ...So ToneWinner has these prices beat...just not sure about Quality I have not heard to much about them
After waiting 4 and a half months, I finally received my Anthem AVM 70 that replaced a Yamaha 3030 receiver. Set up was no issue and it sounds phenomenal. Firmware upgrade was easy. Was working perfectly until recently. After having it 5 weeks, it will turn on but nothing comes out of the speakers. Everything seems to be working fine but again, nothing out of the speakers. Occasionally it would work after unplugging it for an hr and turning it back on, but now nothing. Also getting an error message on the Anthem application menu. Cory from the Crutchfield tech department spent almost 2 hrs with me on the phone trying to problem solve the issue but we finally gave up. Anthem also could not figure what was up with the AVR. Unfortunately it is now being replaced with a new Anthem but I'll probably have to wait another 5 months to get one. Bummer. Hopefully the replacement will have no issues. When it worked it was outstanding so I'm not giving up just yet...Looking at other options. Everyone is on back order.
Anthem is a great company, Well Built, My 5 Channel Amp is phenomenal after 15 years. It should be worth the wait. By the way how is your monoprice 7 channel 200W AMP
Be careful with your camera focus KP. Out of focus is still out of focus even at 4K. Make sure the lens is clean too! Could just be a smudge on the lens. Enjoy your content! Keep up the great work.
Here's a tip for someone starting RU-vid. GET A REAL CAMERA. Anything but a smartphone. When I did my JBL Studio 220 review, I came back to the video (2 weeks later) to watch it before uploading and compose links for what ever song I played at whatever timecode and I discovered that the video was messed up. At a certain point the audio went out of sync with the video and a bunch of the audio at the end of the indoor segment was gone too. So I had to record a segment to patch it together in the middle. There's nothing more irritating than to put a bunch of effort into a video only to have it foiled by a crappy smartphone camera. Also check your footage before you de-construct the set used in the video.
@@Kpaceguy just went from outlaw audio processor 12 years old to sr5015 as preamp only this weekend. It's but warmer but seems like more depth and separation. Liking it it so far.

I judt got the Marantz 8015 wrih my sonus faber lumina speakers. And I'm not happy with it. Sounds very digital I want return it and get an htp 1 and get some amps. Hope it will sound better.

I have two gen 2 emotiva amps the xpa 2 & xpa 5. The emotiva pre pro was a gd candidate for me to get rid of marantz sr 6014 but I don't like that it has all them corks ,fir as much as they cost you should have zero problems. Other thing for me is that it dont have auro 3d I keep hearing from other reviewers that it's atmos on roids! Spec of tech just did a really gd video on this between the two pre pros
Audioholics just posted a review for this one, looks very intriguing - people are becoming more open to Class D as its improvements are bringing it closer to AB performance. I love the way it looks, and the value seems unmatched (price/power ratio). I say give it a try!
I've been using one for awhile for my front 3 LCR soundstage. Plenty of power, runs very cool, and has a class A/B warmth for an efficient class D design. Some users on forums have replaced NAD master series M27 and M28 amps with these and prefer it because of its sound signature. I use one for HT, but it's worthy of critical 2ch music listening.
@@Kpaceguy cool I’m assuming 109% means it’s a good preamp correct I’m on a strict budget and found a use one local to me at a superb price at $600 it does not have 4@120hrz and vrr for gaming like marantz av7706 or 8805a but I can work around it and plug straight to tv

Kpaceguy, I love the channel and content man but I gotta tell you this video was a HUGE miss. It's titled "What Can Beat the Anthem AVM70 AND still Cost less??" but then you list more expensive processors. I see your pushing out more content but don't dilute the quality to make that happen.
