I do not have a glass surface. If I NEED one, I will buy one... But what type of glass do I need? If I do not need it, is there any other material that I can use in its place without damaging the fabric or knife? Thank You in advance for your guidance.
Spandex is a lightweight, synthetic fiber made up of a long chain polymer called polyurethane. So, it should be able to be cut with a hotknife. Since I have not cut any myself, it should be tested.
The fabric must be a synthetic, if it is natural then it will typically not work. I believe that Chiffon is a Polyester, so it should work. Satin fabric can be silk, polyester or nylon or a combination of all three. So, chances are that the satin fabric may not work.
@@rubyhelenraymundo7904 We have both 110 volt and 220 volt versions. Here is the link for the 220 volt: www.sailrite.com/Sailrite-Edge-Hotknife-Package-220-Volt-European
+ALENKA PODBEVŠEK lycra is typically made from Polyester and Polyurethane, so it is a synthetic fabric and should cut well with a hot knife. However, I have never tested it with that fabric. If the lycra fabric contains cotton (as only a few do) then it will not cut well. If you would like to send us a sample of lycra fabric we can test it for you and let you know how it works with it.
+Sailrite Thank you :) I use many different kind of lycra fabrics, so it makes no sense to send you a sample, but thx anyway! I will try on my own and let you know how it works.
PLEASE be advised that those fumes are NOT harmless. Cyanide fumes come when plastics are burned. If you work with it on your jay hoo bee on a daily basis, you should protect yourself from that gradual build up. Or don't, and suffer the consequences later.
