The issue with Betta splendens is they do best at 28c and don't like a current which crosses off all Loricariids, plecos who want a current and generally a good one and then Corydoras where none of the species what we keep in captivity should be long term above around 25-26c.
I am thinking of getting a betta and I know they are jumpers so I was wondering if they need a lid or should I just not fill the tank all the way because I noticed one of your tanks don't have a lid 🥰
They are prone to jump, yes. Although, I’ve found that longer finned bettas have a harder time jumping because their fins are so heavy. I’ve never had a long finned betta jump out before, only plakats. A lid would definitely be a good idea especially because if it’s going to be your first time owning one.
Based on my research and opinions, my number one pick would be kuhli loaches: nocturnal bottom dwellers that should stay out of the betta fish’s way and they shouldn’t pay any kind to them either Second would be Corydoras for similar reasons Rasboras can also work out as, unlike tetras and danios, they aren’t known to nip fins Shrimp and snails one should always be cautious with because while they pose no threat to the betta, bettas may try pecking at them I’d also recommend a 20 long for a betta community tank so there’s plenty of space for them to avoid each other and because most community fish need 20 gallons anyways Definitely agree that if a betta fish is in a 5 gallon you probably shouldn’t keep anything else with them other than a couple tiny snails (shrimp could also work but with less space to hide they might end up getting eaten) And of course it’s worth noting that betas have distinct personalities and temperaments, so even if you do everything right things won’t always work out. Always have a backup plan just to be safe!
I have my betta with plattys In a 20 gallon tank. He gets along with them great. Surprisingly he would kill tetras an I have no idea why but plattys he doesn't mind lol.
He’s from Moonlight Bettas over on Instagram! She is literally so sweet and she’s just a small business of her passion but she deserves so much more credit!
