I had a dentist's appointment today and I'm bedridden and in severe pain after 5 hours. Another flare up. My shoulder and hip hurt just as much as my mouth. For years I didn't want to believe this could be fibromyalgia until it got really bad and I got diagnosed. This video is the first one to explain it in a way, that everything makes sense now. I have allergies, food sensitivities, herpes infection, asthma, leaky gut, irritable bowel, depression, anxiety and c-ptsd. I never realized these alone are stress enough to my system and any outside stressors can cause tipping of the scale. On daily basis I can handle only one task: 1) going to a store 2) cooking 3) cleaning 4) part time work 5) seeing a friend 6) having a doctor's appointment. These can't happen on the same day or there will be consequences. Sadly it is really difficult to do anything recreational as it might be away from doing laundry or something more vital. I've noticed that the only thing that helps is rest. Things that will cause stress to a normal person will cause me to collapse for days. It's really difficult for other people to understand but I think I will use this video to help them.

I aways take couple painkillers before surgery at dentist it helps me. They do use numbing injections but they don’t aways give enough I had sometimes felt pain peeping though as trying extract a tooth one dentist tried say it’s pressure not pain I at time then didn’t knew I had fibromyalgia then but last dentist I did explain fibromyalgia he did increase numbing injection and it was totally pain free. So if need dentist don’t be afraid to explain fibromyalgia that need of higher dose the numbing injection.

@@djpatt81 Thanks! I'll try these tips next time. Fibromyalgia pain is so different from normal pain. It's not in "proportion". After all it's a disorder of pain processing. I'm glad the doctor understood the moment you told about the fibro. Not all doctors understand. The first one you had makes me furious. As if you couldn't tell the difference between pressure and pain... Gotta add, it's been a year since that appointment and now it's good, but the healing was so difficult. I had tooth ache for 3 months after. Luckily it did subside eventually and my teeth didn't become a new area where the flare-ups would manifest.

I'm a 64 year old Grandma and Fibromyalgia warrior ! I was diagnosed 25 years ago when it was all in your head, according to my Primary Dr. Luckily I was sent to a Reumatologist that diagnosed me with Fibro. Things have gotten worse as I age, but I know a lot of my triggers now. The one I can't handle is the change in berametric (sp?) Pressure ! My family calls to see if I'm in a flare before they go fishing, camping etc. I'm better at predicting rain, snow etc. than the weather man!! One day at a time during flares. No overdoing it and pushing myself to clean house etc. Ride the wave, then when better...slow and study !!

I am in it with you! Diagnosed at 29…by a neurologist. He said he could tell the way I “looked” when I walked in….dressed in suit and heels, makeup and hair perfection, YET my eyes showed the pain of FM. He had not even tested me yet but said I was a TYPE A person (I had never heard of that before) and asked him to explain. He stated it was TYPICAL of people with FM and I was VERY SLIM in stature. He tested my “nerves” sensitivity with a “needle shock test” THAT WAS NOT FUN to prove his theory to himself and me. I am now 71 years old….I have educated myself over these 40 years and try HARD to manage it. EVERYTHING hurts on me each day but I power through HOWEVER, it is getting more difficult in age. FLARES for me are triggered by too much sugar, barometer movement AND OVER DOING PHYSICALLY. My mind thinks I am 40….my body reminds me I can NOT keep up. REST, REST AND REST! Waking up FATIGUED after full night of sleep is the WORST! GOD BLESS YOU ALL!

Very good description. Life changes totally as you remove yourself from the situations that no longer work for you. It's isolating and people don't understand it because this multi disability does not come with a cane or wheelchair. We are a long way from treating Invisible Disabilities with the same consideration as those who are visible because they look the part. I face multi problems every day. Add old age to the mix and you become invisible to everyone on the sidewalk. I prefer to live my life without having to talk about it. Depression is a real problem especially if I experience hurtful discrimination. Cognitive problems very real too. It's not pleasant to have to leave an environment where the music is too loud, lights too bright, room too crowded etc. You really have to change your whole life to include the 15 hours of daily downtime needed. Yet, I am stubborn enough to get on a plane to Belfast and celebrate my 75th birthday at Bert's Jazz Club this year. I can suffer here in Toronto or relocate and suffer in Northern Ireland. It takes planning and patience. Airports are terrible on the brain fog and stress. I'm Stage 4 with awful chronic fatigue. It's a life changing diagnosis. There are losses, including career, but I had undiagnosed FM for decades. I didn't understand what was wrong with me. I require zero stress, zero drama. Quiet life. However, I still turned 70 on Milos Island, Greece travelling solo. Yes, it was very difficult but I did it anyway.

Oh wow, even I didn't think of my chemical/ allergies also causing flare ups. I will definitely have one from too much repetitive activity. Thank you for making it simpliar to explain. It explains why puberty, multiple pregnancies and finally a bad case of the flu finally pushed my body over the edge where all repetitive activity was causing painful atrophy of muscles. It is a miserable lifestyle that requires so much attention to everything that you do. However, if you can find the medical and physical activity, focusing on what you can do life is tolerable. I just want to point out that many doctors are shying away from opioid use later in life in spite of the fact that without adequate pain relief, FM patient's can too easily fall into an anxiety, depressive state that will eventually create more pain, weight gain and even suicidal thoughts. In my view, it is better to live well than die a shell of a person trapped in a never ending cycle of both physical and mental pain.

Thanks for this video. This rings true for me. I am female, 33 years old and was diagnosed with hypothyroidism aged 19. Then at the age of 25, shortly after a nervous collapse due to extreme stress/trauma/grief, I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia. I am fit and healthy, I run, walk and hike regularly. I think staying fit, gentle walking and jogging and eating well/ sleeping well has really helped me. I am lucky enough with Fibro and my fitness that can keep it at bay to an extent and I have learnt what my Fibromyalgia triggers are. The longest I have gone without a flare up has been almost a year! My triggers, or what “overflow” my cup are: - getting very cold and especially staying cold for extended periods of time - not getting enough sleep - “overdoing” it without adequate rest (such as cleaning the whole house, staying out with friends then commuting up and down the country within 24hrs) - too much alcohol - eating badly - not exercising at all Usually I can do one or two of the above and be OK but if I, for example, stay up all night drinking in a pub garden and get very cold, then this is VERY likely to cause a flare up. I just have to be careful, if I know I am going out for drinks and might be getting back late, I make sure to go to bed early the next night, wrap up warm and don’t go too heavy on the booze! Moderation is key, we can’t treat our bodies like crap and get away with it like some people can. Also Fibromyalgia hangovers are 3 days long - not worth it haha!

I have suffered with Fibromyalgia for about 25 years. I have widespread pain and very strange digestive issues. I have a corkscrew esophagus and my stomach and esophagus are always very inflammed for no apparent reason. I have had my esophagus dialated three times and even had botox injected into my lower esophagus to try to stop the spasms. I won't take opiates and I can't take NASIDs because of the gastric inflammation. I use lidocaine patches, Voltaren, and Apothecana. I also have central sleep apnea which causes the sympathetic nervous system to stay activated while I sleep and all day. The CPAP decreased my pain about 50%. I just learned that the CPAP could be making my central apnea worse. I also started taking P5P. Before starting that I was so fatigued that I would have to lay down and sleep during the day. I would get a weird headache and feel dizzy. That is no longer happening since starting the P5P. The University of Chicago is doing a lot of research and there is now a definitive test for fibromyalgia Fm/a. They are also conducting clinical trials to determine if the BCG vaccine might be a cure for Fibromyalgia. What I learned is that Fibromyalgia is not an autoimmune disorder. Fibromyalgia is an immune defficiency of IL6 and IL8. There is a study that looked at people with Fibromyalgia and Covid and found that the people in the study with Fibromyalgia either didn't get sick with Covid-19 or if they did they didn't get very sick and none died. That is because of the immune defficiency where they don't produce a cytokyne storm. Look it up. It is interesting information and may be good news.

Great explanation!! I feel lucky that Fibromyalgia is all I have suffered as it made me aware of the careful pacing I have had to do as I get older. it was my body’s way of telling me I was overdoing it. The cascade of symptoms was just like you explained and it took about three flares for me to understand the correlation of it all. it takes a lot of work to be healthy and it gets harder every decade.

The conditions related to fibromyalgia so long I started with gastric issues then few more years the pain started then half a year my skin feels itchy. Hay fever and skin allergies every year got some more symptoms but no cure it’s a lot for just a human being what tops that I have autism too sometimes it makes my autism worse increases meltdowns more. My glass is full more is pouring in it. It is difficult to control this condition with long progressive horrible symptoms that keeps increasing verifications scientists need get to the bottom of this find the root the culprit that brought the whole condition the line symptoms. Our immune system overactive but what caused this to happen. Oh by the way my fibromyalgia started few years before pandemic so not related to covid or even vaccines to be clear incase some try looking their.
