WHAT CAUSES LIFTING? | GEL & ACRYLIC NAILS - This is probably one of the most asked questions I get and I do wish that I had a simple answer for you, but I don't. TONS of things can cause lifting and here I've listed just a couple of things but also how to think to determine where the problem started.

There’s some bs in here for sure. You talking about that white stuff on your nail after it’s lifted is from the clients. No. My nails never lifted with one nail tech then she moved and the new nail tech always made my nails lift within 10 days. Always. I did nothing different between techs. And I gave her at least 7 try’s.
6 лет назад
Hi Alissa! Thank you for your comment! In this video I’m talking about multiple reasons that will cause lifting and I’ve devided it into three categories 1. The nail tech 2. The client 3. The product. I am assuming that you are reffing “The white stuff” to the white gel/acrylic you apply when you do a french design. As mentioned in the video, there are many reasons why that part of the nail would life. Here are some examples 1. If gel: the product didn’t cure properly because the white was applied too thick 2. The free edge of the nail wasn’t secured properly 3. If acrylic: The bead was too wet/too dry 4. If gel: using the wrong type of lamp 5. The natural nails is dry and curve inwards 6. The natural nail is dry and chips 7. Wrong usage of base products (some products won’t attach to the plastic tip). And so on. I don’t think I have mentioned in this video that when “the white stuff” lifts, that it’s automatically because of the client. As mentioned there are multiple reasons for the nail to break, chip, lift and “pop off”. Hope this clears up any question marks for you. Wishing you a lovely day!
@imadethisaccount2h8u

13:30 you start to say the white spots and ridges of the natural nail means the nail was hit or pulled off. That’s how my nails looked when I switched nail techs. And that’s when you begin to say clients you can not fool us because you can tell. But that doesn’t add up correctly in my situation. If you were close to me I would definitely let you try a set on me so see what you think of what actually went on
6 лет назад
Alissa Turner Ok thank you for clearing that up! If you have white spots it means that the gel was pulled of either intentionally or as in an accident (getting stuck in something for example). The white ridges mean that the nail was properly attached to the nail and then an “outside force” made it “pop off”. If you have no white spots or ridges that usually means that the products wasn’t cured properly or that the prep work wasn’t done correctly (the product didn’t attach to the nail). However sometimes half of the nail could be ridge free/spot less and half the nail was pulled off. That indicates that maybe the product didn’t attach to one part of the nail which caused it to lift en then the nail got stuck in something and got pulled off. So there are a million different scenarios for a nail to break or pop off and the only way to be certain is as you say to actually look at it in person and start investigating. The comment that “you can’t fool us” was just me trying to be funny. Hope this helped!

My long term client who never had problems couldn’t have nails when she was undergoing chemo for her cancer, they would just pop off clean in days ! I was so heartbroken for her cause she just wanted to keep normalcy and have pretty nails and it was just another thing the cancer took from her. A few months after she was done and we tried again and no problems plus she’s 4 years cancer free !!!!

I do my own gel polish manicure at home. I noticed the lifting right away while I was undergoing radiation therapy for cancer earlier this year. Rather than re-doing the gel polish every couple days, I gave up and switched to regular polish for about a month, until I finished the treatments. My nails were also very brittle and peeling afterward so I am still using extra cuticle oil daily (seven months post-radiation treatment) to help heal them, but the gel polish is staying on for at least two weeks before I do my next mani. Cancer just sucks in so many ways.

I hate it when clients try to hide the fact that it is something that they do that causes lifting to expect free touch up or free services. It leaves me deeply hurt not knowing what has gone wrong, whether it is my fault or the products. I take great prides in my work and would self criticize for weeks before I could figure out why or let it go. I mean I am totally accepting if it is my fault and would try to fix the problem in a heartbeat, but how could I fix it if I don’t know what the problem is, you know.

Oh snap! I have a client who works in food service and washes her hands and doesn’t dry them all the way, so her wet hands are soaking in gloves for hours! Also she had acrylic applied poorly and damaged her nails and she also doesn’t have good nails naturally. She has been my most challenging client because she knows she is clumsy too and hits and picks them all the time. She has recently changed jobs where her hands won’t be soaking for hours, so I am so excited to see how well her nails do! I just accepted she takes longer to do than other clients because she is my special girl, I just get to spend more time chatting with her! 😂😂😂 Great vídeo as always Celina! 💗💗💗

Tfs. Very informative. I had one person who I did gel on and within 24 hours one nail fell off, and then within a couple days the rest fell off. So I went to her house and did my prep work and applied acrylic to her nails. As her nail polish was drying she was telling me how she applies hemp oil hand lotion to her hands twice a day because she has really dry hands from the factory that she works in. I went home and took another look at the original pic that she sent me of the first gel nail that popped off and there it was... super shiny nail plate and skin. I sent her a text and explained the culprit of the popping nails. Case closed. I have another friend who loves baby stilleto tips. She sent me a text and asked me if I could redo her nails. She admitted that she got into a cat fight with her neighbor and over half of her nails came off from her going after her neighbor's face and hair. Lol. Case closed.

Celina Rydén I had many of those moments! I've been a tech for only 7 months but I have two clients that are younger (16, and 17) that always say they just popped off for no reason. I always blamed myself but they always have damaged nails with bits of white or old gel left behind. This was very educational. Thank you so much! I only have a few clients with lifting and this really helped narrow it down and I've learned a lot from this. Ps, I use light Elegance exclusively including the dome shaped lamps. I love love love this product line!

Thank you so much. Now I know what to do when my clients have lifting. Well this is a bummer I cant wear acrylics or gel, like you said some people have dry nails & the c curve grows inward and the product will lift 😣 thats why my nails never last couple of week. Before I got my license a friend of mine always told me that I have beautifull nails and a strong c curve. Especially when I was a teenager my nails were long, super white and thick. First year of beautyschool we had to trim down our nails and I was like dont need a file, after that I couldnt stop biting my nails. 2015 started doing nails again but couldnt stop biting off the lifted parts. Now Im forced to stop cause my daughter is a copy cat👀 🙊🙈 she loves doing nails so I bought kid friendly polishes for myself zoya, kure bazaar & cnd vinylux. Plain nails are soooo boring 😁💖💅💅

Great video!! My aha-moment was about the sides being too thick or too thin!! I always have one finger nail that cracks on one side. Always my pointer finger. I think it’s because the acrylic is too hard there is no flexibility. But I’m definitely switching over to gel and I think that’s going to help a lot as far as the flexibility goes. Thank you so much for sharing this amazing info!!! ❤️❤️❤️

The client portion is definetly some of my clients. Just recently one told me her nail was hurting and it was lifted. I asked her, " Did you hit your nail?" She told me "NO". A couple days later, the conversation came up again and she then admitted that she did hit her nails. Another client, wouldnt put her hand in the light properly and her thumb didn't cure fully. She doesn't like to keep still. I do hair as well and my nails dont lift often. I find that gel nails have been good to me and my clients.

Please,if you are a nail tech,take the time to read this and help me,I'm trying to understand what went wrong I had my nails done this Friday. Yesterday (today is a Monday,3 days later) I noticed my index finger had gel lifted! On the tip. It's the 3rd time I have them done by this tech and all times my nails have lifted. The first 2 times it was my fault because I work a lot and I was hitting my nails everywhere but I had 3 finger on my right hand with serious lifting whilst they were intact on my left hand. So I know it was my fault. However,the gel chipped hat on the sides on the nails (right hand) and because of that the tech had to shape them in an almond shape. Never had them like this before but no problems. As I said,I had the done 3 days ago. Yesterday I noticed lifting and this time IT IS NOT my fault! I use gloves each damn time I use water,I stop hitting my nails into everything,because I'm more careful but still my nail didn't last. That nail is the one that completely lifting the 2 times before. Is it possible it became so thin and damaged that it won't keep the gel on or the tech did something wrong. I noticed she didn't clean well my nails after she buffed and used the file on them. There was still nail dust although I told her I still felt my nails dirty. She just brushed them off.

@thearmchairjournalist566 6 лет назад
Cindy Pownall generally it is 12 months between changing bulbs, but that is for UV lamps and also the amount of hours of use is factored in as well. LED lamps can last 1000’s of hours, so you would need to check your manufacturer’s recommendation. Hope that helps 💝

Just to be safe, specially for a gel nail tech, if an appointment is for 2 hours then about approximately 45 minutes the light is on. Let’s say your lamp could last up to 1000 hour. So 45 min = 0.75 hours. 1300 clients mean approximately 950 hours of usage. Say you have 4 clients a day so 3 hours of lamp usage, work 5 days a week so 15 hours a week. 950 divides by 15 equals roughly 60+ weeks. that’s over a year. So that is when you should change your lamp. I know it’s expensive if you change it every over a year but 1300 clients multiply with, say, $45 a service (averagely of course) $58,500 that you make. $200 lamp is like totally worth it. Again these are only my assumptions to almost maximum time usage of the lamp so if you use it less than what I indicate, it could last much longer. For nail services, you pocket about 70%-80% of the service charge, not including tips, so I would say it’s totally worth it to change the lamp that often.

Hope my reply was detailed and comprehensible. All of the calculations were done without a calculator so I can’t guarantee how accurate it is but I would say 80% accurate since I scored straight As when it comes to math. I did try to make the calculations as close as possible to the worse case scenario that could happen so it is safer to go longer than the time calculated.

Hey Celina, I have those paper thin leaf nails you talked about. I got gels once because I thought they were more flexible than acrylic, but they ALL lifted within hours of application. Acrylic is usually fine. Im just curious if that is normal? Will I never be able to have gel with my nail type?

My mum lifts it drives me crazy 😝 as I do everything the same as I do to myself I don’t lift she lifts within a week with some brands but others she’s doesn’t! So we stick to 1 brand now and touch wood 3 weeks no lifting .,

Hi Celina that was so interesting thank you, BUT I myself, and a few of my clients have what looks a little like curry stains under the free edge of their nails after a while (I only do gel) I rarely get lifting, but hey even us nail techs and clients have bad days so occasionally it happens. However almost all of my clients have staining of the brownish kind under the free edge after a while, and always when I remove for a new set the whole nail is also lightly stained, oh by the way I always use tips now. Could it be the resin I'm using or am I talking complete rubbish - I'm puzzled. I've been a nail tech for almost 40yrs and a teacher for about 15yrs but I cannot find the answer to this problem, but hey I'm 74 so maybe the old girls brains are on part time mode now. I use Tammy Taylor products USA I am their distributor and educator for the UK and have been for about 16yrs, but I am currently seriously looking for a change of brand/company. Thanks Celina for your very informative video's. Xv
