William Lai Ching-te was inaugurated as Taiwan’s new leader on May 20, 2024. In his first speech as president, Lai pledged to uphold the status quo in the Taiwan Strait, and called on Beijing to work jointly for peace. The head of the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) won a narrow victory in the January elections. The island’s new president faces various challenges, including a divided society as well as strong opposition and pressure from mainland China, which views Lai as a separatist.

It's so disturbing to see politicians turn into street thugs in their own Parliment. I have the same impression when the South Korean politicians go after each other. Do they know the meaning of civility? Do they know how they look to the world?

It shows that they are genuinely passionate about representing their voters. I an actually jealous that they do this, I hope our country does this more often lol. That's what they've been doing for the last few decades. Even though they lost the civil war in China mainland long ago, it wasn't until the end of the 20th century, when the contrast in power between the two sides moved towards a radical imbalance, that they began to take independence to the table. For both sides of a civil war, only the weaker side will show radical behaviour that includes independence or something like that, like North Korea announcing not too long ago that it no longer recognises that it is the same nation as South Korea. China North Korea South Korea Taiwan, can form a matrix, which has an obvious asymmetrical relationship, but also a subtle mirror relationship. Both North Korea and Taiwan are caught in an ideological quagmire that could invite regional disaster. And both China and South Korea have paid price to outmanoeuvre their rivals.

No it isn’t. In the context of the United Nations, the One China Policy is reflected in the UN General Assembly Resolution 2758, adopted on October 25, 1971. This resolution recognized the PRC as "the only legitimate representative of China to the United Nations" and expelled the representatives of the Republic of China (ROC), which is the government based in Taiwan, from the UN. This resolution effectively transferred the UN seat from the ROC to the PRC.

The ex IJA faction target is to take the 19th route army Revenue Merchants assets. What else is their fight. It started with an attempted rebellion by Ex IJA over tobacco, gaming & vice in Formosa territory. Then a KMT Fujien Army unit went over on blitz to arrest the rebels. AGITATION continued post ceasefire after 19th route army move to Formosa. More than a third was soldiers, bureaucrats, supporters of the KMT-NRA with 2 million people and the 4 million indigenous people of Hakka, Aborigines & Minnan. Many of the 1.0 million soldier marry local minnan girls. About 50%, slightly more are 19th route army. The "White Terror" was like the "EMERGENCY" in Malaya where 4th route army auxiliaries had an open rebellion too. Here we are today. 😢
