This movie was sadly underrated, the special effects were great, the story was great and honestly worked hard on emotions, I honestly was in shock at how emotionally impactful this movie ended up being!
I am sure no more that kinda mastpiece is coming cuz of OTT services such as Netflix, Amazon Prime, Disney+. they are just grabbing money. nowadays CG is much easier than the past so they don't care quality of contents, they only care *AMOUNT* of contents *That's why you always only exploring Netflix main page*
This was the first film I did not feel distracted from augmentation or cgi. Chappie felt real to me. And I've been actively watching films for over 20 years. Roll the outro for some goose bumbs: Die Antwoord - Enter The Ninja
Die Antwoord was the worst choice ever for main characters in this movie. Deep concepts were brought up but not explored or fleshed out. There a plenty of food reasons to dislike this movie. There was so much more potential.
Was great fun as all the different Jimmys in Hardcore Henry. If you've never watched it you might get a kick from it. For sure a bit of a dire film what with the whole GoPro POV but his performance was still 10/10. Probably wouldn't re-watch it but he kept it from being forgettable.
I personally loved this movie. The only problem I have is that everyone keeps calling him an AI, he is not. Chappie is a full blown Synthetic Consciousness it’s like two full stages above AI.
when we're talking about Sci-fi AI, thats what it is, a full consciousness. when we talk about real world AI, thats different; when people refer to Chappie as an AI, they are technically both right and wrong.
@@quinnmarchese6313 you are correct, but not for the reasons you think. The concept of ‘Artificial Intelligence’ was born in science fiction, and while the concept has evolved in both fiction and non. the publics general understanding of the concept has continued to use ‘Artificial Intelligence’ as a catch all. It’s like having a doctorate in the field of theoretical physics, but everyone just calls you a Scientist. You are a Technically a Scientist, but it’s a reductive simplification of your status.
I like the film and was so stunned by the action that I didn’t really think about the animated side, the only thought I had was that the explosions and other things were unrealistic, but not the animation itself, they really did a great job to make it appear natural.
That was a pretty good movie, actually. Far from the Hollywood productions we are used to, so it made it an even better experience. I think Im going to watch it again this weekend!
Even on bad films, the VFX work is usually incredible. Usually. But Blomkamp always delivers exceptional VFX work in films. The multiple HDRIs moving through the scene is awesome.
I am one of the few who love Chappie. It's one of the closest a film has come to match Robocop but turned on is head where AI and the artificial can create empathetic life. I think this film will hopefully will grove with time.
This was great to see how my one of my favorite movies was made with the special effects Fame Focus. I'm just sad how they ended it with a potential possible sequel opener that never got worked on. :( I hope to see the world of chappie evolve someday soon.
The Chappie character was made "so alive" in this film, including emotion. It was worth all the work they put into it. As a filmmaker, I was trying to figure out exactly how they did Chappie. Of course I had an idea, but I did not have all specifics of how they did it. It seemed "different" from usual fare, and this video shows that it was. Keyframing, or rotoscoping....either one, is incredibly tedious. I imagine if you are paid very well for it that it's not as bad, but still....it's agonizingly tedious.
I loved this movie. It was brilliantly made, and the VFX are some of the best in any movie, before or since. The extra work put into it totally paid off.
I saw a clip of chappie damaging a car a few years back and instantly loved it, i thought it was a small cgi/vfx clip, never knew it was a movie, and filmed✌ in my country SA busy downloading it now, thanx for the review ✌🤞🤟🤘🤙
As a South African, all of Neill Blomkamp's work brings great pride to our nation. His work is a cut above the rest not only in terms of visuals but the depiction of various South African locations and cultures is simply perfect.
Chappie was an amazing film. I knew when i watched it that the film crew and vfx artist had really put in a lot of work to make everything look so good.
I’ve enjoyed all of Neill Blomkamp’s Movies. CHAPPIE was a really good film. I honestly think the members of Die Antwoord were the marmite in this movie. For some reason they seemed to annoy a lot of people. I thought they were great. It’s such a good story. And to see the Robot from “Alive In Joburg” get a starring role. Amazing.
I think it might have been more acceptable if they weren't playing "themselves." It didn't bother me, but I can understand how it would annoy people that don't know about or care for them. Might have worked better if Ninja and Yo-landi we're just playing some similar gang type people.
В фильме всё есть: драма, комедия, романтика. Этот фильм один из тех где переживаешь за героев и музыка подобрана на отлично. Если снимут продолжение то я его обязательно посмотрю! Спасибо за ролик!
loved chappie, Die antwoord stayed true to there aesthetic and the idea of AI - Consciousness was right on the money. Also the Blomkamp team never fails to blow my mind.
I wish you had talked more about how the "painting out" the reference actor works, because that is a crucial step necessary to sell the whole illusion.
I guess if it was a motion-controlled camera you could just film the same scene with no actors there so you'd have a clean plate to erase the actor(s) in post. If not a motion-controlled camera, I'm at a loss on how this would be done.
@@JustWasted3HoursHere yeah I remember corridor digital touched on this in an episode of vfx artists react. For a lot of this film the camera was handheld. So my best guess is clean plates had to be made by very talented artists who had to digitally paint over the actors using tools similar to the clone stamp in photoshop or using other frames with different angles to use, and then this had to be blended back overtop the original footage. A very painstaking process, just pure brute force.
@@doobyscoober5009 It is really amazing how far the post production software has come in the last 20 years. I don't think they used this approach on Chappie, but there are actually motion control systems that can record (and repeat) even hand-held motions so that they could get a clean plate for those shots. For sure I would love to see a Fame Focus video on just the paint-over process for movies. Here's a Captain Disillusion explanation for how Derren Brown, years ago, 'predicted' the lottery numbers live. It involves a camera system that can record hand-held type movements and repeat them: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-jpN4Yurzns0.html
@@JustWasted3HoursHere ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-tvLOv2EOPM0.html here’s some behind the scenes of a handheld shot. I watched the video you linked and wow that was impressive
@@JustWasted3HoursHere Nope. Those hand-held shots in Chappie was actually shot hand-held, not with a motion-controlled camera. They were impossible to replicate, and in many cases there wasn't even a clean slate for the VFX team to work on. It was a nightmare for the VFX artist to manually paint out the actor. They often have to take the heaviest workload with the tightest deadline because of the lack of foresight before and during production.
In my opinion I enjoyed Chappie but thought the actor's head was incorporated into computer simulation rather than real life, the extent of the printing the robotic parts etc is amazing. Thanks Fame Focus for showing these brilliant aspects of film making. Regards JB
Chappie is a misunderstood masterpiece. It’s a mindblowing and original homage to what came before it. Casting Die Antwoord was inspired, and Hans Zimmer’s score is one of his best. Copley is just as good here as in D9, but the other «big» names are a bit hammy, like Patel, Weaver, and Jackmanz Making them cartoonish may have been intentional, though. I get goosebumps and tears every time I watch it. It’s such a ride, and NOBODY shoots action scenes better than Blomkamp.
i loved this movie, i was a huge fan of Die Antwoord as well as Neill Blomkamp's previous work so i was hyped for this. I loved the concept and the visuals. I didnt know the depths the visual effects team went to for this, this just added to my appreciation
i thoroughly enjoyed chappie, the visual effects of the robot that was acted by Sharlto was incredible. The overall cast was highend and storyline was not too far fetched which made it interesting. Even the featuring of die Antwoord was also a nice touch, I felt that some of the sets were a little inconsistent. I strongly felt the movie was highly underated when its actually a masterpiece!
the VFX on chappie and D9 are both amazing, and put most high end $$ hollywood films to shame, and they are both great films, great acting and wonderful stories.
I own this film and I'm gonna watch it tonight..August 20 2022.. I love this film and I know it was difficult to make but not too this level. It gives that much more admiration for the folks involved in making this... again if you've not seen this movie you really should..If only I had the Chappie emoji.. Also too, District 9 was badass
It is a wonderful film!!! A must see and a classic, really!!! People who say otherwise are numbed by netflix or something, but it was truly a great film. Full of brilliant plot lines and if you like Die Antwoord you really got to see this.
To this day I beleive Chappie and District 9 is some of the greatest CGI I've ever seen. If you were someone that never knew about CGI, it would be very hard to tell it was not real.
It received mixed reviews but for South Africans it was a treat . Chappies mannerisms portrays the gang culture of SA quite astutely and the performances by "Die Antword" (Ninja and Yolandi) was appreciated by their fans .
Thank you for such detailed and satisfying work. Always wanted to know how it works but somewhat I kept missing such opportunity for all this years until now.
19 3D printed 6ft tall robots. Each with no less than 200pcs. Each piece being an average of 200x200mm(the size of my ender3) and a head speed of 50mm/s. If they had zero errors they used 3,700M of filament over a 1200 hour period. At $25 a roll each chappie would cost $750 in filament alone.
very underrated film...so many gems about the direction the upper crust wants the world to go...remove conscience from a human and upload it into a robot so that person can be "eternal". WOW
