For sports jackets I would always get a slight pattern, otherwise it's always gonna look like an orphaned jacket from a suit.

I think it's important to look at what color/pattern would go best with as much of your wardrobe as possible. I have a navy/grey mini-checkered sport coat that goes perfect with navy, charcoal and khaki colored pants. It covers most of my bases for the office.

IMO brown is more versatile than grey because the most versatile trouser color is grey. Leave grey for the trousers

My advice; make sure it doesn’t look like a suit jacket. A plaid or check pattern will help with this and add contrast to solid color trousers.

Brown is also a good option in my opinion. Whatever color you choose, plain colors do not look good, rather look for something at least slightly mottled or so, so that it's made visually interesting.

Totally agree but your coloring plays a role too. My husband has very cool tones and he suits the gray the best but my son looks best in the brown tones. Of course the navy does look good on everyone!

And make sure it pairs well with blue jeans if that's your thing. Olive and brown are my favorite. Blue works if it contrasts enough with the jeans otherwise at a distance it looks like a bad suit. Dark denim with a medium blue tweed with heavy pattern.

I’m 15 and I have three sports jackets so far- a dark green harris tweed, a gray one in a different kind of tweed (no idea what it’s called), and a pale gray, black and gold check one I got yesterday. Hope to keep adding to the collection!

@@RealMenRealStyle. Well back when I wore it I was just starting to dress formal. I dress formal everyday now and have gotten better. But back then I would just pair a light blue jeans with a black shirt. But if I ever wore it now I might occasionally wear it with jeans but most likely with a pair of black trousers with a light blue or white shirt. No tie. Doesn’t look great with a tie. And the occasional navy blue waistcoat.

Hello Antonio! Hello Antonio's team! As you know your chanel helped me understand the World as it is and I am greateful to you and to menfluentials for this. However there are a few missing holes in the wall... For example, I am a handkerchief guy. My nasals became bloody if i use tisues or any other rough stuff wich is not cotton. However I feel limited using it doring winter coz there are only few sections. Is there any trick to upgrade more rooms fro my nose? And ofc Anson belts, why they don't make inchangeable watch straps? I mean for sure their buccles rocks, and it match the belts at least, if not the shoes.

Sorry have to keep editing my comment but so basically solid color sport coats you should get after you purchase slightly patterned ones? Whats tough is that I also plan on getting a checked Dress shirt and I also have a Floral Dress shirt therefore I think the patterns would clash a bit wearing those shirts with different pattern sport coats. That's why solids seem like a safer bet as they'd go with all my shirts but I'm not sure hopefully someone can clarify. Hope my statement isn't too confusing.

You nailed it! This solution is going to be even more versatile in terms of matching the jacket with trousers and achieving the necessary contrast. It often won't look good if you match a navy sportcoat with dark blue trousers, or a dark grey sportcoat with grey trousers. With a jacket in burgundy or brick red, you simply dismiss this problem.
