The Creux piste in Courchevel runs from the summit of the Saulire down the back to links to Courchevel 1650 and back to Courchevel's alitport. It is currently graded as a blue (easy) piste however about a decade ago it was graded as a red (intermediate). The only thing that changed was the color of the line on the piste map.

Definitely right Alex. I’ve always thought it a red and after a long day in the three valleys I would prefer to use the Cable car for return . I won’t ski in Courchevel until the cable car returns as now I’m 60 I prefer not to take risks on a bumpy crowded afternoon Creux. Still loving your videos and love the hair. Would be great to see you to do a tour of all pistes as it’s so good to see the whole resort - great memories and so longing forward to getting back once the big car returns! 🤞

So I just got back from Courchevel. This was only my 3rd ski trip and I am doing blues very confidently. I thought it was steep and a bit of a thigh burner but I dint find it scary. I have never done a red so i don't know how it compares. If I had seen it was a red I would have given it a miss, but its a beautiful run with amazing views.

You will find the colour change is a resort marketing ploy, and it used to attract a particular type of skier, so changing Creux to blue attracts beginner and early intermediate skiers. It isn't just Courchevel doing it, it is a Europe wide marketing issue with run gradient colours being different from country to country and from resort to resort.

Definitely a red Alex. If you ski first thing, no problem one of the best runs around, but use it as your route home from Méribel to Courchevel late afternoon and you’ll e in for a nasty surprise when it’s chopped up. Saulire a much better option once you’ve got down the first 20m🤪.

Definitely a Red.. And like you say gets really bumpy and busy in the afternoon.. Still one of my favorite runs in courchevel. P.s love the hair.

Red, like the hair...

You make a good point Alex.. When it was Red, Crux was one of our favourite pistes, but since its mysterious transformation to Bleu, the top section is not enjoyable anymore for all the reasons you cite 👍🏽 Perhaps the same psychological games are at play on the green down to La Tania (Plan Fontaine) 🤔

Is the green down to La Tania because its almost grass....

@@150daysofwinter Ha ha it's been in decent nick tbf but I can't believe beginners prefer it to Folyeres "just because they think it's a Green run 😂😂

I had the same discussion with my chalet mates at apres ski yesterday. General consensus was that Creux is a Red and Fontaine is a Bleu.

Agree. But done for the reasons you suggest. Oh look, we can take that blue! lots of people won’t come over to courchevel from Meribel if there’s no blue off the top. ( I know there are other routes available).

You are correct. "To make the 3 valleys more accessible"

Best solution I can think of is have it be a red down to chanrossa/marmottes, and then a blue from there to aguille du fruit. Another candidate for borderline blue i'll put up is folyeres in la tania. One of my favorite pistes of all time but i've sen a lot of people struggle on the bit just before you meet plan fontaine and go down to the village. Speaking of which how plan fontaine is a green I will never know, shares piste with murettes! I could go on...

Yeah I hear ya chappie there's a few like that in 3 valleys that are marked bad

In any other country this would obviously be a red, but with greens existing in France and keeping in mind that there are no easier runs down there, I think blue is fine. Great off piste right next to that run btw, if your skis and skill can handle it.

But I must say that there are many runs that would possibly even be black runs in Germany marked as blue in France

Oh god Creux on an afternoon in January when it's dingy and moguled to shit 😂

Tough as it is not the run it's the traffic that makes skiing there more difficult. Perhaps rename it tourist slalom.
