The Chinese uncle say he had a hard time and break down but he can repeat this cycle for 14 times, honestly as much as they are sharing stories, all these people asked for it, almost all of them enter the prison for more than 3 times, if it’s really a impacting event they wouldn’t have repeated the cycle for as much as 14 times. Pretty stupid and it’s a fact. Yeah now that they are sharing their stories but really, doesn’t change the fact that they were idiots for as much as 14 times. On that note they don’t really deserve empathy because the truth is they chose to revisit the prison.

@@imluvinyourmum it's heartbreaking and a good message. The fact that it's a hard truth and social commentary about how no matter how ex prisoners have changed for the better, society will still view and label them as gangsters and "bad" make it heartbreaking. Us knowing that because of how because there is stereotypes, these ex prisoners will never recieve what they deserve, makes us feel sad for them and for ourself.

Can we just appreciate how Tharman, his wife and the singer Henry Chen that he mentioned, helped him and supported him all the way. Didn’t look down on him, believed in him and yet us people keep judging them and stuff like people really need to reflect on the things they say to these people. Everyone makes mistakes as cliche as it sounds but it’s true. They have feelings too and i think everyone play a big part on shaping these people too because if you’re a boss of a company and you look down on them you don’t recruit them because they went to jail before you are not giving them any hope and you make them feel like going back to gang because they have no job no nothing in life.

I was sent to prison previously for drug possession and consumption. After serving my due, I decided to change over a new leaf and got myself a proper job. One day I overslept and was going to be late for work. When the feeder bus stopped at the MRT station , I quickly dashed down the escalator to the MRT. Maybe I was on my earphones then, I didn't hear anyone calling out to me. Suddenly I felt a firm grip on my shoulders. I stopped in my tracks, and 4 Transcom police officers were behind me. I took out my ear phones, and asked "yes sir?" First answer from one of them " Why you run away from us?" As I was passing my NRIC to them, I tried to explain that I was running to catch the train as I was late for work, and that I didn't hear them as I had my earphones on. The officer screening my IC then told his other colleagues "this subject just released last year for drug offences." The others then said "we need to search your bag." I asked the officers if we could go to a room or office to conduct the search, and the reply I got was a cold and curt "why? if you have nothing to hide why u scared that we search here?" The sight of 4 policeman searching the bag of a guy with tattoos was good enough to draw unwanted attention from the morning MRT crowd, and I could only keep my fingers crossed that I didn't bump into any friends or relatives. After the search, no apologies, no nothing. just a simple"Ok u can go now" So now, like what Whye Kee said "The court sentence us to a few years in prison, but the society give us the life sentence.

Thank you so much for sharing your story. I agree with you that the police officers should have carried out the screening somewhere else so that they don't cause a scene in public. I believe you deserve to be treated with dignity and respect. Just because they found out you are an ex-offender doesn't mean they have the right to treat you rudely😠

I like how that guy says "educate society about drugs and gangs, not against drugs and gangs" and I stand for this guy really. Also he open up how they get screen in public places and yes the police are very polite but I get how they'd feel if it becomes a routine.. a reoccurring thing that they always have to be checked like I'm sure youngsters could relate. I wouldn't like it either if my mum kept nagging the same thing even though she knows I've made improvements etc but yeah.. and of course police officers are doing their job but yeah like he said there's no way to have better approach or way on that aspect. To those who categories as being suspicious just Because they have ink on their skin and walk and behave a certain way, stay strong ! Just know that there are people in the society who does not judge you just because of that ! 😊✌️🙆🔥💛

As a former Journalist, it's not easy for me to feel emotionally engaged, all in the name of objectivity. However, this particular episode definately struck a chord. It's heart wrenching yet heart warming at the same time. Folks often criticise local productions but down to earth and sincere series like this makes us proud of local media. As I wipe the remnant of my tears off my face, I will like to offer a big thanks for your labor of love. 加油! It’s so beautiful to hear these stories from people just like you and me. But at the end of the day their stories are unfathomable. What they have gone through. I’m glad they are out.

Thank you, really, for the video. Wow that is awfully deep. Really appreciate the interviewees' open hearted yet vulnerable voice. It's never easy to open up on such personal stories 😔 Really heartwarming to see the channel unfold to this level. Can only imagine how much work your team had to pull through to this point 👍👍👍

super insightful and mind-opening to all of us (the public)!!! im so happy to see more and more people breaking the stigma of excons and more willing to give them another chance in the society. not just excons but people with tattoos, ex addicts, etc. i believe as more people speak up, more will listen and accept :) i hope this video brings hope and a glimpse of light to anybody feeling helpless. do not give up!!! 🍀

Thank you to the producers, staff and everyone participating in the video for sharing this with us. Its really really important to get the message across that convicts have lives too, and hearing all their stories really made me rethink about how i view them.

It's all circumstance. People who have done real harm to others still roam unapologetically free and people who sincerely repent are still burdened by their past. I genuinely hope all of you find peace and happiness. Thank you for sharing, it's been humbling.

Thanks so much Our Grandfather Story for making this video. All of you featured are so courageous and beautiful! I just really want to say sorry for the times you have been rejected, interrupted and not supported in society. Everyone should be given a listening ear and support and nothing you do should change how much love you can give and can receive. Hold your heads high for now you walk as beacons of hope for others and yourself. Reject old ways with a passion because you are new everyday! Thank you for showing us what love means. I am truly moved. All of you are so important!

wow... the level of experiences shared is well beyond what normal civilians who have never broken the law & landed in jail. Very inspirational stories & outlook shared. In fact it's only these people who have experienced the flip side of society (I.e. discrimination) that can point out the flaws of the gov, society, people in general
