I've taken the unusual step of disabling comments on this video as I'm not interested in debating the content and advice given. The content is provided to help pilots learn from a professional UAV builder with world class building experience. Using a conductor that is cooled, only 3 inches long and carrying current with a DC and AC component for only 5 mins at a time makes it a very different proposition compared to the cable decisions when wiring a house. Trying to use the logic for wiring a residential property doesn't translate to RC. Look at the 'undersized' AWG wires used on LIPO batteries for example...
If you take nothing else away from the video, remember these tips:
- the numbers in the video are a guide only
- the lower the AWG number, the bigger the cable size and current capacity
- when extending wire, use the same AWG gauge (battery or motor)
- wires are used in RC to carry different loads compared to use in places like residential wiring.
- heat dissipation is a major factor on current capacity; cables in lots of airflow are cooled...
- use the right sized connector, when in doubt - go bigger (XT30/60/90)
- always err on the side of caution and use what is already on the components as a guide
