Thank you for joining us on this crazy journey! Our family- Kate and Marius plus our four kids, have always enjoyed living a homemade life whenever possible. Moving 1000miles north in 2017 to Northern BC, Canada upped our game even more. We live on a 34 acre homestead and get a kick out of things like raising our own meat, dairy and vegetables. Theres plenty of failures, you’ll be sure to see those here too. We’re a homeschooling family who believes life is the best teacher but we do hit the books in winter. You can find lots of real life confessions, recipes, how to’s and “The Schat Show”. Family health, natural health, cooking, natural food, whole food, recipes, parenting, kids, children, babies, faith, family life, work life balance, survival, wildcraft, keeping a family milk cow, home dairy, chickens, eggs, meat chickens, raising meat, raising pigs, fencing, dogs, cats, garden, gardening, winter gardening, short season gardening, northern living, life in winter, outdoor adventure, nature study, plant identification, rural living, food preparation, heating with wood, firewood, child training, homeschooling are all topics you will find here

Great video! I always say I'm going to record everything that comes off an animal when we butcher and then I'm usually tired from butchering and just throw it in the freezer lol. How old was t-bone? Was he totally grass fed? Do you know what hanging weight includes in Canada? I ask because we usually butcher our Herefords at 2 years and they do get grain twice a day in addition to free choice hay and/or grass. We do our own now and don't usually bother weighing but when we brought them to be butchered our hanging weight was usually around 800-900lbs.
@VenisonforDinner
@VenisonforDinner 4 года назад
Tbone was 18 months old and he was grain finished. Hanging weight is half the carcass, what goes on to the butcher

...its about $2800 now 😂 but its not a big investment...a car, a house, those are big (and stupid) investments! A cow, farm raised regeneratively, thats a smart and compassionate investment! Kill government power by supporting old world farming! And....eat max nutrition! Im eagerly anticipating my half 😊

Right, I am sensitive to the protein in beef, but not venison. I can’t explain it, that’s just what the test says! And my body. When I eat beef, I usually get a headache within 1-2 hours. After venison, I do not.

Butcherers always seem to take/steal the heart, lungs, kidneys, liver, tail and tongue if you don't Specifically request it. I've had butcher's still keep my heart, lungs and kidneys even after I requested it I guess because it makes good eats.

So you raise meat to sell... to buy. I'm confused. You raise the cows and sell then you buy from a bulk butcher? I get that.
@VenisonforDinner
@VenisonforDinner 2 года назад
We raise all of our own meat and butcher it all ourselves. If we have excess (usually pork) we sell the animal to our customers who deal with the butcher themselves.
