No cuts to the Asylum budget! Giving illegals priority over pensioners is despicable. What about taxing Amazon and Google? What about dealing with the tax evasion of dual passport holders? What about cutting the gold standard pensions of MPs?
She explicitly excluded pension credit beneficiaries from the cut. And the cuts for the asylum budget means stop paying the hotels for illegals. She actually condemned that practice, watch the statement. The Tories and Sky News couldn't believe it, they don't want to say they were the ones that put up the free hotels. Labout is actually delivering for England.
Honestly it’s more about showing solidarity. It’s easier to pull off the whole “we’re all in this together and we all have to make sacrifices” if they sacrifice too.
Here comes austerity again but it will only be the poorest in society that will suffer the most. How about stopping MPs expenses snd let them pay for thing from their salaries like the rest of us.🤔
Rwanda was never going to solve the problem. It cost millions per person sent there, and they only managed to send a couple of people who volunteered to go, in all the time it was running.
Lol Reading the sky news comments always makes me laugh. All teachers, Dr's, nurses, train drivers, union members, benifit claiments. Can't wait to strike for a pay rise because the sense of self entitlement. Why do lefties think they are better and more deserving than the rest of us? Unexpected 22 billion in our economy, unexpected...these,figures are public knowledge so she should already know if she did her job properly. 22 billion deficit and this government has spent 24 billion pounds in 24 days already. God bless Britain for the nxt few years. Sharia is looming. Which way is north??
They aren't "giving" 6.5bn TO the immigrants. That's just how much the Conservatives have been paying to house them in the hotels while not dealing with them.
Money going to the asylum system doesn’t mean it’s going to illegal immigrants, any more than money going to the prison system means it’s going to prisoners.
The Tories put them there. The country has an obligation and Brexit removed the UK from agreements to send unprocessed claim back to the EU. When the claims processing is back up and running, the hotels will empty, the costs sill come down and the Mail will find something else to blame foreigners for.
So this is poor explained but it’s not all pensioners this won’t affect Dorris down the road in her little one bed, this is to stop people that own multiple houses and are incredibly rich from getting that same fund
@@nothereandthereanywhere employers then have to make their product more expensive to make account for that Restaurants Retail Grocery’s Services It’s a balance
No... By paying more, all that happens is the government take money from the employer for tax. The employee barely sees a change. For companies to get wages to a 25k tax level it would bankrupt every small business in the UK. The solution is to raise the tax threshold because it DOESN'T have a negative affect on business, but does have. Positive one on employees.
The problem isn’t the salary. The problem is they always get a pay increase at a time they tell others there’s no money for pay increases. I understood the Tory MPs being greedy but if Labour meant the things they say they’d be happy to forgo their rise to give to the less fortunate.
@@jaybee4288 Annual changes are now linked to changes in "average earnings in the public sector using”. The MPs are representatives of the people if 1/4 of them are scandalous maybe thats what the people want. Also most of the tory front bench could make more money somewhere else.
@@reecekennedy8528ok….but that still means they are putting Asylum seekers before pensioners who have worked hard and have a decent pension. Still doesn’t make it right does it?!!!!
Winters are getting milder, people aren't going to need to spend as much on fuel. And this only affects people on large company pensions not those on pension credit.
If we don't send aid to Ukraine, eventually we'll have to send soldiers. Whatever we give to Ukraine now is a drop in the ocean compared to the cost of WWIII.
@@dubvibes731 Pensioners are the wealthiest generation in the UK. yes some people need the fuel allowence, these people will still get it. But some dont need it. I know people who just it for buying extra christmas presents.
How about not sending billions to the Ukraine how about not spending billions on illegal imigants how about cutting over sea aid 15 billion.oh no let cut heating payments to the old
Because if Russia triumphs in Ukraine we are going to have spend hundreds of billions in increased defence expenditure. Just raising from 2% to 2.5% by 2030 is an increase of about 90bn. Therefore 3bn a year for a few years is a much more economical
@@kirkhunter146which translates to persecuting those who have worked hard and have a decent company pension…..the exact thing that government have been telling us to do!!!! How can anyone see that as being justified?
@@kirkhunter146Yes but what about pensioners with a small private pension of 80£ a week? They don’t get any help, no pension credit from the state for them whilst having paid into the system and been prudent by sacrificing to have a little pension because the state pension is far from adequate and the worst in Europe. Labour running true to form. Next stop change capital gains so anyone who has been responsible and saved money will be penalised. Bring on the lazy scroungers . Makes my blood boil. Sickening.
Pensioners who are means tested and do not require additional help lose £200. They also gain a much better chance of seeing a doctor, which is probably worth more at their age.
Labour settled the junior doctors strike in less than. 3 weeks of being in government. The Tories let it ride in for months and cost the treasury billions in Locum Doctors and cover when they could have just accepted the deal and saved money. That's what he means I assume
Pensioners screwed only once in 14 years more like. Hoping for more pensioner sanctions, the cherry on the cake would be means testing the state pension 🍰
if illegal migrants cost us 6.4 billion, what is the cost of legal immigration. One thing is clear both the conservative and labour parties could not care what they spend as they know we will have no choice but to pay tax on everything we earn and then again on what we buy. I hate to think what the council tax bill will be next year 5% or more increase?.
Legal migration is a net positive because they work and contribute to the economy, and pay tax. This is what asylum seekers will be doing too if their application is accepted. Those who aren't accepted are sent back or to other safe countries.
Didn’t the energy firms make a ridiculous amount of money when they hiked up the fuel costs and then said those profits came from somewhere else like efficiencies. Why did people think Labour will be any different to conservatives?
@@jamesholt4449 So cut their pensions. I know some of these departments like companies house and local governments who get 30% pension contributions. That's madness.
@@kirkhunter146you mean the bank of England financial coup, they sold a load of bonds to crash the market so Truss would be kicked out. Scared people acted like predictable plebs and good little puppets for their masters!
@@kirkhunter146 yes they do I have seen it over and over. My local council gets 27% the last time I did some work there and that was increasing. Companies house is 30% .
Not so - I am one of the OAP this will affect and I am content with the fact that the government is attempting to target the funds where they are most needed. It may feel unfair given we recieved extra payments above the 1 to 300. I would encourage those eligible for Pension Credit to get claiming it asap - and some are very resistant to doing so.
Oh no those poor pensioners, 80% of which bought discount council house and have fat inflation linked pensions. I don't have a cheap council house and my pay hasn't risen with inflation
Looking at the pay differential graph, I see public sector pay has been above that of the private sector since 2002 to 2022. She's restoring it the norm, where those who grow the country's wealth earn less than those who spend it.
There is an argument that because winters are getting milder, (2023 had some of the warmest temps on record) a reduction on winter fuel payments can be done. Would be good to see a shift towards funding for better insulation, more sustainable ways to heat homes. Help the people who need it, and not those who don't.
Its simple, 40 pecent of UK income comes from Income Tax but only about 8 percent comes from Corporation Tax. Welcome to Capitalism where cleaners and receptionist bring in all the money, but corporation get to keep most of their profits. This has to change to at leat 25 percent coming from Corporation taxes. We need to rebalance our economy so that business owners and corporations pay more and then we can reduce income tax for everyone.
The pensioner cut won't affect the poor, everyone seems to think all pensioners get the cut. No it's only going to the pensioners that need it over those who can afford to live comfortably without it.
Take the winter fuel payment off the elderly and vulnerable and give it to the government sponsored junior doctors who will all retire early on a massive pension that means they will never need a winter fuel payment.
Those Who are vulnerable will still get it. The pensioners Altham are being targeted are those who won't miss it or don't need it. Believe it or not we do live in a country where some pensioners are quite wealthy. We all have that stereotypical view of a pensioner having to sit in blankets to keep warm ........ there are those but also ones who live a grand life and still receive the fuel allowance.
@@nikashby6363It was a nice bonus for my Mum. Not rich but a 30+ year teacher’s pension plus state pension. Her income was as much as many working families.
I don't underatand why people are so outraged on pension fuel cuts. This will be only applied to people not claiming pension benefits and with substantial net worth. I don't understand why someone living abroad for retirement should still get fuel benefits, in my opinion this is a fair system given the whole country is struggling
@@stephenhardwick4101 Some 660k ultra rich amounted for £3.4trillion in wealth back in 2021, a 5% tax on that level would have generated £170B straight away. 70% of the population of the UK added up to £2.9trillion in wealth and nothing was taken from the ultra wealthy. Yet after tax allowances 20%, 40% or 50% was taken from lower earners than the affluent, mega rich in this country. The rich can afford it, if they want to keep assets in this country, they should pay for them responsibility!
Even the chancellor ruled out a wealth tax when an MP in the chamber directly asked her to create one. The rich are generally wealth creators, entrepreneurs, business owners and employers. Dissuading them from keeping their affairs in the UK and paying tax here is not a good idea and as I stated the chancellor agreed.
Taxing the rich more is a stupid argument because they will just move to another country with better taxes and potentially move business from the uk resulting in 1000s of jobs being lost
Around 50 deaths a year are ascribed to hypothermia. Lets see the stats for the next few years to see how much this really cost the uk in elderly lives. They should cut overseas aid instead but i suspect most of that aid is spent on uk made military equipment. This is the most tory labour party ever.
@@TalesOfWar and yet strangely Kier Starmer and many others were on the opposition benches during those Tory years and couldn't calculate that there was a giant hole? I've seen this little melodrama of 'OMG we're so shocked by this revelation' before and only if your entire party hadn't been sitting in Parliament with access to all the figures should anyone be able to do this and keep a straight face.
My late uncle could have been one of those statistics ( he was moved into a care home by social services and 2 Police men) because he refused to put any heating on even though he had the financial resources to do so. This led to pipes freezing and bursting ( not repaired ). Fear is the main reason many elderly act this way - they don`t want the government to know all their business so refuse to claim Pension Credit - my late Mum and his sister recieved a tidy inheritance when he died......the logic evades me.
So why don't they stop the boats? That would save billions. I am a pensioner over 80 years old, living alone and struggling like many so why do this Government now decide to make matters worse? I am at my wits end and cannot wait for REFORM UK to take control. They are the only party to offer any chance of recovery.
People said that about SNP in Scotland, but they got in with a huge majority and they were no better, beware of new parties promising the earth, because they won't make any difference
I know how we can fix the black hole in our finances, how about taxing the ultra wealthy and redistributing the homes to the younger generation in our society? Maybe we can get some economic growth and more incoming receipts.
These are inherited figures/debts from the Conservatives - my local council went bankrupt - as an OAP I can deal with my gas and electric bills myself however I can do nothing but rely on the government to bring the NHS and Dentists etc back from the brink.
And what is she supposed to do even if she knew about it? Tories were the government, not Rachel Reeves. She is in the job for 3 weeks and so magically it is her fault? 14 years versus 3 weeks. It’s not hard math.
Cost of Heating payments to all pensioners £1-4 billion, illegals hotel board and lodging bill£3-5 billion Foreign aid budget £11 billion.I think we can see what this lot think of the older population
35 years national insurance. I've been paying for 41 years and still paying until I hopefully can retire at the ripe old age of 67. Absolutely outrageous .
So this is poorly explained but it’s not all pensioners this won’t affect Dorris down the road in her little one bed, this is means tested so incredibly rich pensioners that own multiple houses are unable from to get that same winter funding
1. Give MPs national minimum wage plus fuel costs (if receipts and proof of mileage is provided). And bonuses based on reaching targets agreed on by parliament and the public. 2. Stop paying immigrants and deport everyone here without asylum. Reject all future asylum applications. 3. Stop paying countries for anything. Including dishing out money to pay for other countries' wars. 4. Reorganise the NHS. Make consultants do as much work as their juniors. They should be doing more than the juniors, not less for a higher wage. 5. Reign in the property owners (landlords) by lowering the mortgage interest rates. 6. Tax the corporate and offshore businesses that operate on our shores but use tax loopholes. Loads more money.
Wealth tax is a one off then rich people never return to UK. Its failed in France before under President Hollande, the rich just moved to Belgium and Luxembourg
@@sirgo0se97That's fine. If most people support Ukraine then they'd be happy to privately donate some of their money. Why is everyone else, including those ambivalent about that conflict, dragged in to its ballooning costs?
@jamesholt4449 Yeah exactly... no we don't need the public deciding on funding Ukraine. Affects our security...could be yet another catastrophic popular vote.
Oh well done , I thought the Tories were bad for allowing the energy companies to retain record profits for shareholders even when they offered to financially assist in cutting household bills, but this??? This is absolutely disgusting, thousands of elderly will freeze and starve, on your head be it!!
Stop giving are money to asylum sort out own country out first the people should get to vote on how everything is spent it’s our money we have the power it’s not long before the people stand up to the government
It's means tested based on pension wealth and savings. So those pensioners who own a detached 5 bedroom home in Berkshire with 2 cars and a holiday villa in Alicante lose the money. The pensioners who struggle to make ends meet will continue to get it.
No cuts to illegal migration.... I recommend looking into "UN report on Replacement Migration as solution to declining population", our fate has been sealed years ago....
As already a lot of people commented, why aren’t they doing a windfall tax on large corporations and the highest earners. I mean, for gods sake I live in the same area where some Billionaires live, yet I have to find new and creative ways of being frugal and careful with money. It’s insane! Also, again, what about MP salaries and their expenditure accounts that We, the public, fund!
