I never got around to pulling up my tubers last year, so assuming they all died, I ordered 17 new varieties this year. I just did a walk-around in my garden, and last years dahlias are putting up foliage right now! I live in 6B coastal RI. Good luck to you!

This is the only reason I don't buy dahlias and calla lilies. Although I now have 2 calla lilies that winterize for a long time. Started out as 1 now 2. I think it's calla lily but the foliage looks like elephant ears 🤷. I don't have storage space to store them every year. Oh I live in zone 7/8??🤦‍♀️🤷🤦‍♀️ I'm not good with this kinda of things. I live in Canada but 30minutes drive to Bellingham Washington. I get a ton of rain year round. 🤦‍♀️🤣😂

I live about 40 minutes from Swan Island Dahlia Farm and went there four times last year. It is just heaven. I also took a bouquet arranging class which was amazing. The fields are open August through September. I would wait for September because you are going to find the dahlias in full bloom then. I ordered 23 dahlia tubers for there for this spring. 🌸🌸🌸

Hi Erin, love your videos for real-life gardeners without acres of space! I grew about 20 dahlia individuals the first time last year. In a row, tilled an fertilized, only dahlias. One of it was waltzing mathilda. She was so beautiful, glaring in the sun. In oktober I unearthed, that she grew many big and healthy tubers with many eyes! So, more in years to come. So exciting :) I'd love to send you one, but shipping to USA is very expensive😕 This year I'll till a new area that was abandoned the last few years and kick my dahlias up to 70 individuals. Seeds make it possible. Dahlias sucked me in! Blooming greetings from germany, zone 7

I grew ball Dahlias last year and I am hooked! I am in TX zone 8 so they may winter over. I cut them down after they were looking pretty tired in September and to my surprise, one of my areas came back and gave me blooms Nov-Dec!! Thank you for sharing!

Love what you said at the beginning for folks who aren’t in to buying different varieties but still want to grow Dahlias and the fact that they can get tubers at box stores or local garden centers. I do love to order mine from Longfield and I like that on some of the varieties, you can order a single tuber. I treat my Dahlias as annuals so this makes me feel better about doing that. Also love growing them from seed and the surprise you get! Your Dahlia addiction is real ☺️ but all so beautiful and we enjoy seeing them in your gardens 💚

I'm so excited to order my first tubers! I bought 2 plants last year at a big-box store and they were fine, pretty, but they stayed pretty small. One of them doubled in size for me,; it was a creamy yellow single. I failed to dig up the tubers but will not make that mistake this year!

So many pretty dahlias. I can't wait to see your gardens. I have also ordered from Longfield and have had great luck growing their dahlias. I ordered another 4 yesterday from a new farm. It's so addictive. I dug my dahlias last fall and they produced 200 tubers. I'm adding 55 more this year! I hope they as showy as the picture. :)

Erin, I am so glad I discovered you and your channel...if for no other reason it's the new-to-me discovery of dahlias! We all learn from those who have gone before us and for my Mom and her Mom, we were more rose, tulips, lilies, hydrangeas, caladiums, and fern growers. Not much in the way of dahlias. Am guessing it has something to do with the S.E. soil and climate. Anyway, am enjoying learning about them and have tried a few...this year is my second try at it. Nothing amazing yet, just getting to know that flower. Thanks for the enthusiasm and inspiration you bring for us. Cheers! ❤👍🏻🌺

@@stephaniewarren9285 mine made decent tubers, not an amazing amount but enough to grow my supply... enough to turn two plants into 6 or 7 if they come out of storage ok. My stems weren't super long either though. I made lots of mistakes and didn't fertilize the way I should have, which might have been the problem for me.

So fun to daydream about this coming growing season via your overview! I had also ordered Melody Allegro and HS Date from Longfield to put in my borders (so it's validating to hear that you've found them to be a quality source--their prices beat everyone else's and free shipping (!!) so I was a little nervous ordering from them, but now I'm so excited to see what will be arriving this spring )--looks like they will be gorgeous!

Great video Erin, as always, love these varieties and now I have to have that apple blossom collarette. I want you to know, I grew Islander last year and I had two. They were 7' tall! in a partly shaded area, so prepare yourself for the height, it towered over all my other dahlias in the same bed. Thank goodness I put it in the middle and not toward the front. GORGEOUS blooms, and yes it's very much going to be that one statement flower in a bouquet, it's also very prolific, which was surprising yet so wonderful! I can not wait to see all these in your garden this year! So exciting!

Thank you Erin for this video!! I started dahlias for the first time last year because of you and Laura and had great success!! I ordered from Longfield and they were fantastic!!! I started my tubers in doors(thanks for that tip) and harden them off in my little greenhouse. It was because of you I had a great first year. The only mishap I had was I ordered too many tall ones and not enough to balance different heights and interest. Hello Erin, from Central Wisconsin! Thanks for sharing all your dahlia knowledge, you gave me the courage to try growing them for the first time a couple of years ago. I placed an order from a company that shall remain nameless, not any that I got were what I ordered. They were still beautiful but I wanted what I ordered, they made good on it and I re-ordered the following year and again, was sadly disappointed. So I went to Longfield last year and was extremely happy with the tubers and they performed amazing! Melody Swing was one of them, it was the first to bloom and went strong all season. I just placed another order a couple days ago and have plans to double the size of the bed I put in last spring. I picked up some Penhill Watermelon at Walmart after seeing yours and they blew me away, easily 7 feet tall or more and were very prolific, tons of blooms all season. Needless to say, I'm addicted.. Thank you!!! :)

You may have solved a mystery for me. I garden in SE South Dakota, USDA Zone 4b/5a. A flower that was supposed to be Penhill Watermelon, wasn't. I was having the hardest time finding out what it was. I think it might be Milena Fleur. Only thing is, mine is iridescent, it sparkles, if that makes any sense. It's gorgeous. Can remember if I got any tubers from it, but we'll find out once everything is planted and blooms. Wish me luck!

I love the "ball" dahlias because they add a different texture in arrangements. Beautiful choices on your dahlias for next year Erin. I've never met a dahlia I didn't like. :)

Omg, the Thomas edison.....so good!! I was my best performer last year!! Definitely a staple dahlia from now on with me lol. New one I'm trying this year is "lilac time'. Its a sport of Thomas edison.

Fabulous video Erin. I think I’m hooked and I’ve never grown one. Looking to order some. Hopefully a good selection here in Canada.

Welp, adding more to my list now! I grew Fairway Spur last year and it started off with a light lavender underneath the petals.... truly the most unique color starting off, but then it fades into a peachy apricot. Hope yours does well!

I ordered Peaches N Cream for the same reason. 😂 It’s also hard to find, from what I’ve seen, so when I happened to hop on a sale and see it still available, I snagged it. It does look gorgeous!

Erin, I'd love a video about growing things from seed. Seeds are significantly cheaper than full sized nursery plants, but I've been afraid to try. Until this spring. I've started purchasing grow lights and shelves to grow seed indoors, but I'm still scared. I love your channel. Your videos are informative without the annoying overly perky delivery like some... I've learned so much watching your videos. Thanks.

I had a terrible experience with ordering tubers from Eden Brothers last season. They all came broken necked and desicated. They don't guarantee their tubers, as they wouldn't respond to my emails about my experience. My Swan Island Dahlias came beautiful and healthy. I am sticking with whatever they sell!

Granted, I havent grown a hugr number of dahlias (yet), but I LOVE Fairway Spur! Was a little difficult to fit it into a bouquet, but oh so gorgeous! I really love the look of Appleblossom, I am hoping to get my hands on that one soon! One of the ones I am super excited about this year is Sweet Nathalie, it is like the ball version of Cafe Au Lait!

Your color palette for dahlias is perfect. Most of the varieties are almost impossible for me to find here in Greece but I have ordered some from a European company in holland and amongst them is Waltzing Matilda . If and when I get blooms I will send you photos , I checked their website they don’t ship to the US.

Thank you for inspiration! I love Creme de Cognac, it is short and bushy with wonderful coppery color. This year I want to try them i big pots. Milena Fleur is very special, medium tall, like Jowey-varieties

oh I have sooo many thoughts about the dahlia tuber market this year, you're growing some of my favorites- Appleblossom is worth the staking and Fairway Spur is a very prolific bloomer for such a large flower. All the Penhills crank out flowers too. I just can't with everything selling out instantly and the sites crashing, it's not a pleasant way to shop at all. Stonehouse opened in NOVEMBER and sold out in hours, I loved the KA's last year, I'm leaving mine in the ground this year just to see what happens. I went a completely different route to get tubers this year which I should probably make a video about. I'm happy for the small farms but the demand is crazy now, not sure it continues indefinitely and I feel for the commercial growers who can't get the tubers they need.
