In the fall of 1959 Jane Wilbanks was a freshman at Furman University, Greenville, SC, in the same dorm where I lived. Our rooms were arranged around a square space that was open to the first and second floors of the rooms. There was one phone booth in the center of the square open space. When someone called, the girl who answered the phone would shout the name of the girl who was receiving a call. When Elvis called, his name was also loudly announced. We were all excited to watch Jane come down from her second floor room to speak with him. She was a beautiful and sweet girl so we could understand Elvis' interest in her. I enjoyed your video memory of this time.

Great video! It will be 40 years ago this August that I first visited Graceland. I know there have been many changes to the mansion and surrounding area in that time. If Elvis was at the music gates today he wouldn't recognise his own street.

Whoo hoo! I have something in common with Elvis! I also leave reading glasses in almost every room. Ahem, I only had to start doing that in more recent years, but it's so convenient. Another Great video as usual Ashley! Everything you do is Absolutely fantastic! You are phenomenal! It really is So hard to pick just one thing. I LOVE Graceland! And always love to see how things were changed throughout the years. Such as the downstairs bedroom (Dodger's old room). The reading glasses were Very interesting. Seems like no one wants to ne without a pair handy. lol But maybe the most interesting, maybe unusual is the bass guitar. Elvis Really must have Loved that? To be pictured with it, to take it traveling with him AND to have it in a movie with him. (If we looked closer through them all, it may have been in more. Concerts too??) Seems to me, that guitar may have meant mote to him then a lot of people realised? Thank you for all you do! Keep up the GREAT work! You are the Best!!

Those two chairs were not there when I talked to Elvis 2 weeks before he died. I was in the living room and we went out back. I did get to sing with Elvis in the back yard!

We don't get to see Elvis in pics with reading glasses... but there are a few candid pics on the set of "Walk Away Joe" where he is wearing reading glasses on set. i think lisa invented the real / video game frogger first but in this version your in the cart lol , i think the chairs where a different set , the v pattern was very popular / also called diamond pleted , great views into those pictures and stuff we miss , the vents on the ceiling are probably central air , they are the best central air you can have is from the ceiling , you only see them in costum houses / high end , like in a mall they come from the top thats how the malls and stores are so cool , very efficient system

Hi Ashley! Awesome video! 👏⚡️❤️ Loving all these old photos! Are you certain those white chairs that are currently in the living room were only added for the tour? I asked our UVIP tour guide Kristen when we toured the house on Sunday, and she told me that they were original to Elvis’s house. She said they used to be somewhere upstairs, I think she said his office but I could be wrong, but they were a different color and were reupholstered white to match the couch before the tour. I had seen another video of yours before going, which is what prompted me to ask about the chairs 😂 But she could’ve been wrong - just curious where you learned that! Thanks!!! 😊

I so love when you do "Secret Graceland" Ashley! I had to laugh about Lisa Marie running over frogs with her golf cart. When I was a kid, a little bit older than Lisa Marie, there were frogs everywhere down south, especially in the evening hours. You couldn't walk out the door without almost stepping on a frog. So yeah, I got a chuckle out of that one. Elvis had eye issues, so the reading glasses in rooms doesn't surprise me, but I think or hope it makes him more human to people as how many of us have reading glasses in different rooms of the house?! Wonder if those vents are air conditioning vents? Because Graceland didn't have central air right? At first they used window units I thought. I could be wrong, but just guessing that is what the vents are or else fresh air exchanges because of tours. Love that the mystery of the clock has been solved! Jessica had an eagle eye! Love the photo of Elvis on the couch with his white guitar, always been my favorite "at home" photo. Always fun to see how the house looked just before Elvis passed, although it would seem right not to have Gladys and Vernon's bedroom on the tour and instead be Dodger's or Delta's. You think of Elvis and his parents, so that is what you want to see-or at least in my mind. lol I love the photo of Lisa Marie with her family. I also love anything to do with the kitchen. Metal canisters like those in the kitchen were so common back then. And of course the cast iron pan, which is still very popular today in a lot of kitchens including my own. Those chairs are still a mystery though, as it looks as though they could be the white chairs from upstairs recovered, but yet the sketch suggests otherwise. Interesting to say the least! Everything was my favorite Ashley as how can it not be?!! As usual, you have me wanting more and more on Secret Graceland! You do the best videos my dear!

Hey Ashley, great video, I've gotta get to Graceland someday! I read something years ago that I think may have been HIGHLY misleading. In this article, the bit I refer to is the writers assertion that The King couldn't play any instrument, I wasn't sure at the time, now I am sure he was wrong.

Oh Ashley, I'm so stupid! I've always seen the photo from the perspective of Living Room to Music-Room, like the photo of Elvis in the Musicroom. It was taken from the perspective of the music room to the dining room. Now it's right! I am very sorry that I caused confusion for a moment!!!

Hi Ashley, thanks again for your great Graceland Secrets video! For years, I've thought about your favorite photo of Elvis at Graceland in 1965, with Elvis playing an electric guitar. The white couch is on the left in the living room, where it is normally on the right! In your photo from 1963 you can clearly see that the white couch was not on the left. So was the couch turned right to left in 1963-1965 and then left to right again? Or was the white couch turned from right to left and then back to the right once during the home story, perhaps because of the better lighting conditions?

Bill played the doghouse bass until 1957 and was delivered a 1956 fender precision to none other than Graceland. Bill actually didn't take to the electric bass right away but Elvis did. So much so it is Elvis playing the Bass on the jailhouse rock sound track song baby, I don't care. Its obvious Bill was late to the game transforming from stand up Bass to electric and I wonder what Elvis thought of this? IMHO I think Elvis, between being to poor when the bass came out, to Bill preferring the stand up over electric - Elvis was probably ecstatic when Bill finally went electric.

Do you happen to know if he did? Do you possibly have a list of the records in Elvis' collection? Lastly, do you possibly know where aelvis got his pool table or who made it?

Hey Ashley! We were at Graceland this weekend and noticed a door we hadn’t paid any attention to on previous trips. It faces straight out the back of the house onto the back porch. (under the half moon window of the ladies bathroom). I believe it is from the locked room in front of the mirrored staircase. Is this the bird room? I’ve looked at online floor plans and it just shows a room with no name. Do you know??

Great video. I often wondered how Dodger and Aunt Delta got on living at Graceland with s many people coming and going and many a party held in the early days. Actually I am not sure where Aunt Delta lived when Dodger was alive, can you let me know as I am sure you have that info somewhere in your vast knowledge of Graceland. thanks.
