Hi all! Have you ever wondered what rich people ate in the medieval Arab and Islamic world? Well today we are going to explore this topic and attempt to cook a medieval dish that was most likely served to the Caliphs, Sultans. The medieval Arab world was so rich in culinary tradition and cook books, so this is going to be an interesting one.

In the Middle Ages, I think the Middle East was the most developed civilization. If Baghdad hadn't burned down, humans would have gone into space 200 years earlier. I sometimes cook and eat Muslim food. I'm Japanese and not Muslim, so I eat pork. In Islamic cuisine, chicken is more delicious than pork when using meat. I feel like the seasoning is also probably combined with the meat and the climate. In my country, the water is soft, so it probably tastes different from the food made in the Middle East.😊

Ah spices, the true rulers of history! Side note, it's a good thing beef was frowned upon while chicken wasn't because thermodynamics. It takes like 25kg of feed to make 1kg of beef, meanwhile 3.3kg of feed make 1kg of chicken. And that's not even bringing in the land or water usage! Edit: I misremembered the number, according to ourworldindata it's actually 25kg not 16kg and 3.3kg for chicken not 4kg. so beef is even worse than I remembered!

He's probably shia since he wears an agate (also aqeeq or akeek in arabic) ring on his right hand

I'm guessing he is Shia; he wears a Yemeni agate in his right hand, a very telltale sign of a Shia

Salam alaikum bro why the sectarian speculation? remember hold fast to the rope of Allah and do not become divided… And wearing a ring is a Sunnah of the prophet salallahu alayhi wa salam no sect owns this practice.

@@andrewpalim1978 I'm not being sectarian; I'm Shia myself. I just answered his question with an observation, as it is a very distinctive things that people remark about us when they see us.
