As a Japanese I'm so happy to hear thier honest opinions. Once I traveled to China, I was scared of getting discriminated because of my nationality but on the contrary to my anticipation I was welcomed and just had a great pleasant moment. Definitely will re-visit China again.
Hi there I’m a Chinese don’t worry. China has strong rule against foreigner being harm in any way. Also Chinese young people is very influenced by anime. If you go to bilibili which is Chinese versions of niconico it’s almost all about japan culture. Chinese people today are not caring about history in general. Japanese are welcome now days.
@@papercat2599 liar, you can't represent the majority of Chinese who worship communism&socialism. even you might be called a traitor or mind-Japanese(enemy).
It's good to hear their honest opinions about Japan because I watch tv news and everyday I only see politics and no local people's personal opinions. Also regarding daily TV news I hear a lot about bad mannered Chinese tourists throwing away garbages on the street, but most of the people from China I met in person are really nice and polite. So see for yourself, is really a good piece of advice.
Thx for this amazing channel, watched you from the first videos, I am happy to see that your channel is growing. This year i passed hsk 5, your videos helped me a lot during the preparation process. Next autumn i am going to China for 2 years to improve my Chinese. Just wanted to say thank you for helping me accomplish my goal Eileen, your friend from Moldova.
Eileen, that was TERRIFIC! As always, you are so skilled at relatingto the people you interview. You make them feel comfortable but at the same time you push to get a good answer.. Also the way you handles the question of Chinese Japanese relations was great. I have many friends among both Chinese and Japanese, and I'm often confused by this problem, especially since my father and other relatives fought in WWII. The young Chinese who answered you gave some very thoughtful answers. I have not seen anyway who really gives a deep impression of China the way you do. Brilliant work!

This videos you make shifted my opionion on chinese people more towards a positive understanding, althou I know, people from cities are always more open minded. How about some interviews on people on the country to compare ?
Your channel is some of the best PR I've seen for China. The people are sincere, thoughtful, and often judge them selves as much as any other country. I'm too old and handicapped, but I would love to be 20 years-old and healthy... I'd visit China and see everything in a heartbeat. US culture is more 'pop', Europe is medieval... you guys were charting supernovas and working on artistic impression when others were living in huts. The US seems worried you'll take over... I prefer to see your videos and find Chinese that are intelligent, friendly, and considerate people I'd like to meet. Much respect to you.

Please make more videos like these. This is the best type of clips so far in your channel. Could you ask them about South East Asian countries like Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines etc....??? I love your channel!!!
Would be great to see more videos of just Eileen talking to the camera, maybe telling us about her thoughts on various topics. I find listening to one person talking to the camera for a long time has really helped me with learning other languages.
Hi Magnet Holik, we already have done quite a few, long videos with this format. Check out this playlist, for example: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-qP_ihrfU6wQ.html or this one: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-V_XteZbz5pg.html
no it cannot . Japan is thanks to video games (play station but not only) , manga and anime is no.1 cultural influencer in the world. Thier culture is well known everywhere be it Africa, USA, South America, EU, Australia or Asia itself. Frankly it is shocking that Japan culture is influencing even China which ... lets be honest is often very hostile to Japan for historical reasons. And add to that chinese great firewall ... and you still see those dudes knowing Japan VA's , games , anime and VP kek. And Germany ... frankly they have hard time being culturally inflential even in Europe. And I tell you that as Germany's neighbor. I was to Germany enough times . Btw I'm not trashing German Culture ... but there is like nothing outstanding about it and certainly it got absolutelly limited influence outside of EU. And by outstanding I mean stuff like Manga or Anime which everyone around world knows well. Don't take is as attack, but you try to compare your culture to no.1 influencer in world. Nothing to back it. Today in USA best selling manga ... single title got more sales than WHOLE USA comic industry together... just to repeat - single title in USA home ground. The only thing relatable is that both Germany and Japan commited multiple attrocities against nations around them. Nothing to brag about really. And you didn't give us cute anime waifus as reparations.
I showed the @15:32 to my Chinese teacher. She laughed. But then she told me that she and fellow teachers also did the same. My teachers(4 people) was having a tour. And then the tour guide asked them what is the best phone. They say it is Huawei. And then that person asked whether they use huawei, but 3 of 4 use Iphone🙈
Oh, and by the way: When it comes to Japanese cuisine, a girl said that Japanese restaurants in China might not be authentic. Before I visited Japan the first time I had the same thought: You've been to Japanese restaurants in Germany, but they're probably different from real Japanese restaurants. But I have to say the difference isn't as remarkable as I expected - I'd say it's basically the same. It's still a different experience to really eat in Japan end experience the service culture and the table manners there though.
As someone who loves Japan (and, in fact, a Japanese woman) but also the People's Republic, I'm happy to see that the people asked in this video are rather positive about Japan. Being German, I can relate to Japan somehow: Both countries did terrible things in the past, but on the other hand this is nothing that people today are responsible for. It's a good feeling when people whose country once fell victim to yours nevertheless display an attitude of forgiveness. We (speaking specifically for Germany now) should never forget the crimes our country committed, but then again we're not guilty of it. Today's people are responsible only for present and future times, and that's why I hope that people can forget all their prejudice and feelings of superiority and anger from the past and so on and just get along.
Dude I'm British, I can tell you categorically no country is without shame, internets a wonderful thing, and we can all connect now and hopefully see how many of us have shared values, my only worry right now is with chinese censorship, but with VPN's I see a lot will get around it, advise for everyone, never follow everything your Governments say's, they have their own agenda and always think for yourself and ask questions. We should be Earthlings first and working together.....probably sound like some weird conspiracy nut now haha. My point is the worlds a smaller place than you think. Love one another.
Though I like Japan, there is a big difference between Germany and Japan regarding the war atrocities. Germany accepted their crimes and apologized. Japan denies it and apparantly teaches the complete oppositie of their actions. They were 'rescuing' the other countries (at least according to what i've heard from other japanese). Because they deny it, they won't apologise about it. It's a shame but that is all politics. All in all though, the people are nice and their many entertainment are great
My ex gf who was from Beijing expressed she didn't like japanese when I was demonstrating words similar in both languages such as kawaii and ke-ai for cute.
@@fence_ridergaming8640 I've been on a train in Japan and heard people say that Chinese people should not be allowed to share train carriages with Japanese people because they are "dirty and have no manners". Japanese people tend to assume that white people cannot understand Japanese, so they speak freely when I am around. And they say the most racist things I have ever heard in my life.
@@ThomasWong54 thanks for replying, even though i think you don't know what the word means. But because of your reply i realized my chinese sentence was not very well constructed.
Chinese is convenient as Japanese😂 i mainly read English subtitles but when I couldn’t understand some English words I sometimes could understand through Chinese subtitles even though I don’t speak their own language😭
Very interesting and resourceful interviews. Thank you so much Eileen! 29:26 ...not like Japanese governments hadn't already done this before, but it's probably kind of easy not nor hear about it in Chinese media or just ignore it. I'm glad to see the younger generations are more open-minded and less prejudiced, which has also been my personal impression.
@@EmmaNguyen-mg5xq Wow, very open-minded and well-rounded judgement of yours... Seriously, I know on average this is something, that the average Japanese person would phrase more diplomatically - even though Chinese are already skilled at this - but I wouldn't dare to claim, that any young Japanese would hate China. The two countries are more entangled anc connected than many of their citizens realise, I often come to think.
These videos are very helpful! I can get used to the different accents and people's ways of speaking. Lots of accents merge the z with zh, the c with ch, the s with sh. Also some people mix n and l I've realized. Thank you and keep up the good work.
Statistically speaking, there is almost no difference between the Japanese average height and that of the Chinese, but somehow many Chinese have the impression that the Japanese are relatively short. I'm curious where this image comes from.
@@MandarinCorner2 Thanks for clarifying , when the three young girls talked about Zhongshan I thought maybe Guangdong. I liked the two young guys with glasses, they have modern and open minded attitudes. They make good ambassadors for China . I'm enjoying your street interview videos, learn some new phrases, see the local architecture, and get to hear peoples points of view
@@kokolexx Chinese is the language, Mandarin is the most populous dialect family. A wiki search will tell you all you need to know about how Chinese works.
@@kokolexx 中文 is Chinese, the actual language. 汉语 refers to the entire spectrum of the spoken dialects. Sometimes you'll see 华语 used as a synonym for 汉语. 语 generally refers to a dialect family. For example, 粤语 is the Yue dialect family, which is notable for having Cantonese in it. There are 10 dialect families in Chinese, but Mandarin doesn't have a "语" translation. Rather, mandarin is often called 普通话. However, 话 actually refers to a specific dialect (ex. 广东话 = Cantonese), so 普通话 in fact is only standard mandarin. The mandarin dialect family actually includes many dialects, notably Sichuan, Tianjin, and Manchuria dialects. Non-mandarin dialect families are small enough that it identifies a region, with the dialects themselves being even smaller. For example, Cantonese is only spoken in the Bay area (Guangzhou to Hong Kong). But the mandarin dialects encompass huge regions, hence no "语" for the mandarin dialect family. Combine with the overall non-interest of the anglosphere in learning the nuance of the Chinese language, and you end up with a mess of an English translation. When people say "Chinese", "Mandarin", or "Mandarin Chinese", they're actually referring to "standard mandarin dialect of Chinese", which is 普通话. It should actually be called Putonghua, but use of the word hasn't caught on yet.
@@jyashin jyashin thanks for the detail explanation. but i still confused about the original comment that says "i am fluent in mandarin and english, but chinese is my first language" what does it means? he is fluent in 普通话,but 中文 is his mother language?

As a half japanese half korean born in singapore, I saw many chinese and a little japanese in singapore but i can tell the facial differences between chinese and japanese. In my personal opinion, japanese has bigger eyes and nose compared to chinese and chinese hair style is too short and japanese hairstyle is so diverse some of japanese has long hair like wolves but some of japanese style is short but i can say that korean is easiest to distinguish compared to chinese and japanese especially korean people eye is too small and look scary sometimes and they have tall height as well more than japanese and chinese in conclusion, japanese and chinese look similar but korean is so diffrent compared to japanese and chinese
23:55 - The girl on the right is sooooo cute. They all came across well. Maybe young Chinese people are much less hating of the West? I very much hope so.
