I am switching my major from Nursing to Civil Engineering, it is something I wanted to go into, and learn more about! I am a first year student, so I'm still figuring out what I want to do, engineering has been on top of my list since I was a kid. Thanks for this video! Subscribed.
This is honestly one of the best/grounded videos I’ve found for civil engineering on RU-vid. Thank you for giving genuine examples of the job and not just “You’ll make a bajiollion dollars and take these classes!”
Good stuff man. This was really good insight. I’m a field engineer now. I have been putting a lot of thought into really going to school to become a civil engineer.
I'm interested in architecture and while this video may not be as relevant to me it is interesting learning about how architects, design engineers, and construction engineers collaborate! Your videos have taught me so much about the construction industry--thank you!!
If we'd be honest, Civil Engineering gives expression to the core imaginative and creative dimensions of man and also balance the need of humanity at the same time. I love Civil Engineering
work life balance seems so bad tho. im looking into CE as a degree but just came out of a stressful career kinda like it. is part time do able or work from home half the time?
can a civil engineer design buildings in any way ,because i love designing buildings i believe i'm really creative with it but if my high school grades prevent me of studying architecture should i go for the civil engineering, are they allowed to design just like the architects job ?
"Yes, civil engineers can design buildings, but their focus is primarily on the structural integrity and functionality of the building rather than the aesthetics, which is the main focus of architects. If you have a passion for designing buildings and creativity, civil engineering could still be a great fit. However, keep in mind that architecture and civil engineering are distinct fields, with architects focusing more on the creative design and civil engineers ensuring the structure is safe and functional. Both professions often collaborate closely on projects. I teach Civil engineering even on my youtube channel. This is what I have build passion around and I am fulfilled doing so.
To my opinion, this video is the most clearer one in differentiating between Construction Engineering, Design Engineering, and Even Architecture Engineering.
Mad hours!!! That is exactly why I chose to be a designer instead of a construction engineer. I don’t know how you guys can work so many hours and and still enjoy your personal interests.

thanks Brodie. I'm in my second year, and it is hard work. physics got me in a rut, math skills could be a bit more polished, and I need to get it together. thank you.
Hi 👋 I’m a final year civil engineering student in China 👩🏾🎓 and I’m here thinking what to do next😩 well I plan to do some internship after my grad 🥂 thanks for this video
This has always been my dream ever since I was born. I would like to go for the site construction engineer because I really love the field work. Sound so cool and interesting
I am Geotechnical Engineer.... you know, the other exciting part of Civil Engineering,, just that we play with the soil and rock,,, Yeeeeeeeeeeeeey... Great vid
"reinforcing for the column is 6" in the wrong spot" .....hmm..... that sounds familiar. Great video! I'm going to send this to people when they ask me what I do for a living
I've learnt a lot from this thank you. I have a question: I'm currently in 11th grade and I really aspire to understand the career just as much as you do. Does going to university mean I'll gain all this understanding you have?
Im really confused on what to choose as my specialisation. On one hand most subject in the university are about the design part i feel it would be a waste to study so much just to ignore it. On the other hand construction sounds really cool
Woow well explained I really enjoyed this video. Lol if I was to pick engineering the info you dished out would have allowed me to make decisions very well
It isn't really, are you willing to continually learn? Do you actually like the day in day out of the other work? An internship answers that question. Lastly are depending on how far you are, are you financially stable overall
If you decide to to a civ eng major at uni please makes sure you understand physics as well as math. In high school I didn’t take physics too seriously cause i thought physics is a type of math and math was the most important. Not true at all. I’m in my final year with a bachelor of civil engineering and it really was a struggle. I failed some classes where I had to repeat all of them. It’s important you understand the concepts and not just do practice questions but doing both.

Hi there, i'm studying civil for a year and a half now and this last three months i've been learning about cement and i find it out so boring and it makes me doubt my decision about chooshing civil (although i've always liked courses like statics or designing sth) but i don't know me feeling about cements which is kindda the most important thing in our degree is an alert that i'm in a wrong place or not. I'd be glad to know your opinion
In your video when you mention Design Engineer, is that the same as Civil Engineer? At University of Houston, there are 2 different majors Civil Engineer and Construction Engineer, there are no Design Engineer. Thanks
hey im looking to have a better work life balance and 6 to 5 with traffic everyday isnt it, but i want to do engineering is there part times or work from home. i left the military to not be a workaholic and focus on the good stuff. is there hope or should i look at other degrees im really far into researching CE and like it.
I already got my AA Degree and have to work on my Bachelor Degree on Summer 2021 . I’ve been trying to get some experience but the job application says needs Bachelor’s Degree but don’t have yet and the term intern or entry level for me is someone who wants to try out a field but the application jobs is like “ Oh no you need Bachelors Degree” if you know anything please let me know so I can start at least so I get experience.THANKS
To become a construction site engineer, which degree is better, a civil engineering degree or a construction engineering degree or a construction management degree?? Also what’s the difference between a construction site engineer and a construction manager??
Any one of those degrees are fine. CE and CM are likely more focused and applicable to the industry, civil engineering gives you more options to go into design if construction ends up being not for you. The site engineer will likely be part of the project, in the details, directly affecting the job, while a CM is more of an oversight of the contractor of the job; you wont necessarily know exactly how things are going to get done, but you’ll have a general idea of what the contractor should be doing.
Haha sorry, yes it can get confusing. Civil engineering I see as more of a design job while construction is geared to the field work; aka construction engineering.
This is an awesome question. To me, construction because it teaches you more about cost of materials and labor. So you can see true value in the build of a home. As a consultant/designer you may be able to draw and stamp your own plans, but in construction you can create relationships with more people and ultimately have the greatest understanding and appreciation for real estate value. And starting in construction can also lead you to development which can give you an even better perspective about real estate. Hope that helps!
