"treats and toys..." That's where I lucked out, in a way. My rescue doesn't play with toys. IF she even gets playful, and she has a choice between a toy, and an old beef bone, she'll pick the bone, and play with it. Also, doesn't like dog treats. The only dog treats that she liked were bully sticks. I was so happy because it was something that could keep her mind busy. For whatever reason she's just lost all interest in those now... sucks.
My rescue loves best...her morning walk with me in the open field where she explores, sniffs and hunts for mice. Next she loves to play with me. She also loves a beef bone that I have filled with pumpkin and then frozen. She adores a cardboard box filled with paper, toilet paper rolls, and a bit of kibble wrapped in a towel (twisted and a puzzle to open.) It's a challenge for her to get the box open and empty and explore what is inside. She also loves sitting in our sunporch and watching our the glass window at the people, bike, dogs that pass by. I also take her outside on her leash and we sit against the porch and she watches, smells and naps. I brush her, check her for ticks, listen to the birds and talk to her and this is our "quality time together." None of these cost a lot of money. It's more about being outside, having adventure and just being together and stimulated.
